Cleveland Clinic Florida Weston Bariatric Center
Was originally to have Samuel Szomstein as my surgeon, but when I called to get my surgery date, they said Dr. Rosental would be performing the surgery. I haven't met him yet, hope to meet him soon! Met with Dr. Rosenthal on 02/14/03. He told me that he does all the surgeries on larger persons because he has more experience than Dr. Szomstein. The visit was brief, but he answered all my questions and was confident of the success that I would achieve.
A post-surgery note: Dr. Rosenthal is awesome. He completed my surgery in about 1.5 hours, everything went smoothly. He and his staff and the Cleveland Clinic made my stay very comfortable and they did not rush me home until I was really feeling recovered. Thank you Dr. Rosenthal for saving my life and giving me a second chance to LIVE!
On the last Monday of each month, Dr. Rosenthal holds a support meeting at 6:00pm for WLS. He is almost always there in person to answer questions and discuss this life saving surgery.
From the very begining De Szomstein was very informative and through out this whole process he has been wonderful. I am very grateful to him for taking the time to assure my mother's fears on the morning of my surgery and for keeping her informed through out the process. Drs. Szomstein and Rosenthal and their staff are wonderful.
First Impression? Very Warm..so friendly! He could very well be somebody in my family! My mom gave him a bit of scene.(he understood) He was willing to answer questions..and asked us all clearly one by one if we were sure about this. He assured my parents that when i was in his care that he would treat me as if i were his own daughter going under the knife. He calmed my nerves with the way he conducted business...and nobody else tus far has been able to calm me in a doctors office! haha. There really isn't anything i can say i liked least about him. He requires that you go to pre-op support groups, and encourages speaking with others. He went out of his way and gave me the #'s of two people my age whohad done this. One who had complications and one who hadn't..so i can hear both sides of the story. I thought that was great of him. His aftercare seems very consistent. I've been told he will call you if you dont make the right aftercare steps..so thats some positive reinforcement for those who wont be willing to keep up. He adressed risks with us straight up but also threw in that he does NOT make mistakes. (guess he's super human, eh? haha!) On a scale of one to ten i give him a big fat 10. His credentials and personality are a great combination. I really feel as though i couldn't have placed my life in better, more competant hands than Dr. Rosenthals.
i was impressed with dr rosenthal from the start his education and experience are impressive but unlike other drs he is very much a real person
his office staff is sympathetic and very competent
dr rosenthal went into minute details about risks
i think he is great definately a 10
I first met Dr. Szomstein in Aug 2002. And I liked him right away. He was kind, informative and seemed to really care about his patience. My PCP referred Dr.S to me as I was diagnosed with gallstones and was also considering and gathering info for WLS. So I figured it's all in the same area and I could just have one surgery to fix both problems. Dr. S. looked over my medical records and sayed it would be advisable to take your gallbladder out first. Long story short, I completed all of my test for WLS in Nov,2002, and went for surgery on Jan 28, 2003 to take my gallbladder out. It was so smooth I went home the next day. And now I am set for RNY March 18th 2003. My impression has not changed about him and I trust him completly. The staff is sometimes short tempered, but I guess that is because they are so busy and understaff. My first impression of the dietician was not favorable. That's all I will say on her! Even though Dr. Rosenthal & Szomstein are very well experinced in there surgical practice. The over-all program could use a little more revising. Especially with and when they should send in for Insurance approval. Overall I rate the Doctors an 8.
I met with Dr. Rosenthal for the 1st time on 6/6/02. He was very nice , to the point and thorough. Most of my visit was spent with an assistant and then with the nutritionist. The staff seems to be nice and interested in your best interest. I was explained the procedure, pros and cons and shown a video on an actual procedure. Now I just have 20 million things to get done.
2/22/03 HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL- DR ROSENTHAL'S BED SIDE MANNERS WERE GREAT. HE VISITED ME EVERYDAY BRIEFLY. SUPER DOC.
9-13-02 Met Dr Rosenthal from the Cleveland Clinic in Westin,Fla (just west of Ft Lauderdale). Very nice, and highly recommended from my other Dr at the clinic also. He has done about 250 operations as of this date with little or no complications.
His staff was great and make you feel at ease with the office procedures. They will start scheduling appoints right after the Holiday on 9-17-02.
Dr Rosenthal advises you of all the risks and also of all the benefits that will come out of the operation. I would rate him a 9 out of 10, just because no one is perfect !
post op note 2-1-03 Couldnt have placed my surgery in better hands than Dr Rosenthal and his great staff. All went smoothly and care was excellent.
He came highly recommended. I was initially seen by the assistant, but requested to see Rosenthal himself. I felt that the consultation was rushed, however I was already versed on WLS. I had been doing 6 months worth of research already. The only thing I wanted to know was what type of patients he recommends for the lap-band surgery. At that time, I was still undecided. Dr. Rosenthal was very knowledgable about the subject and made a good impression on me.
