Dr Nye seems to be a very good surgeon. I have been impressed with him and his staff so far. I pray that after May 25th (surgery date) I will be even MORE impressed.
7/26/04 Dr Nye and his staff are the best! I adore them all and am so glad that God directed me to them.

He was a good surgeon, but I have been left with the impression his interest was the $$$$ only. Very few questions have been directed to the issues I had before the surgery (medically). To this day I have not been told what my BMI was nor what my ideal weight should be. I went in with very bad high blood pressure, even in the hospital it was high the whole time. I was taken off my BP medicine and told not to take it after the surgery.... I was released on a Thursday and went to see Dr. Nye the following Monday. My BP was checked and it was still a bit high, the following times I went for my follow up, it was never checked again. My primary Doctor stepped in and put me back on my medicines and is gradually waining me off. I am very happy with the results so far, I've lost 85 lbs and I had the surgery in March 04. He and his staff are very nice, just not sure if the patients medical need is his concern

Dr. Nye is very kind and explains everything thoughly and gives you plenty of time to ask questions. As I've come to know him better I'm more and more at ease with him as if I've known him all my life. He has a wonderful office staff and his wife (whom I've known since she was a little girl)is his head nurse.I did not like his long hair (but, he's cut it since)
Future patient should know that there is a monthly meeting that educates you and is a open forum for Questioning.Dr. Nye is there or his wife and they bring in other doctors and professionals that can answer questions and they are there for a 5 year follow up.Dr. Nye insists on a 5 year follow-up which you have to commit to before he will even do the surgery. His aftercare is extremely structured. He explaines all the risks and the people that have had the surgery with complications are there (at the monthly meeting) to share about their excellant care that they received even in the mist of their complication. I would give him an excellant rating. He has done over 1,000 and has only lost 3 patients. I believe surgical competence is most important but, you hit the jackpot because with Dr. Nye you also get bedside manner. He is competent and a over all wonderful human being. but not perfect. These are my own personal experiances. I Can't speak to what you may experiance or what others may have to say about their experiances. I'm sure that others may have a different opion. but I appreciate the oppertunity to share mine.

I met Dr. Nye and his wife at Baptist WLS support group meeting. When I had my first appointment with him, he was very knowledgable about the pros and cons of the surgery. I have been around many specialist because of my 5 year old son and his special needs with his heart, lungs and esophagus so I was impressed with Dr. Nye when he sketched out a picture of what the actual surgery would look like. He even offered additional information about my son's esophagus and what new procedures were being offered now. That told me alot about what type of doctor he was. I am a school teacher by trade (and heart) and feel strongly about every profession staying up to date on new technology and research. I knew from that day forward that Dr. Nye was the right surgeon for me.

My first impression was a good one he was very curtious and answered all my questions.
My impression at this point has not changed, I am still very happy to have hiom ass my surgeon.
His Office staff his also very curtious and understanding. They have helped me over the phone and in person when i had a question or concern.
I like best that he is a nice guy and does everthing he can to make you feel comfortable and glad that I made this desicion to have the surgery.
He has many Awards in doing this surgery and by carefully following up with every patient.
I havent had aftercare yet.
He told me in full the risks of this surgery as well as the rest of the nurses, they make sure that you know what you are getting into befor they send the paperwork in.
So far I would have to say that i am appreciatetive to have such a great surgeon.
I dont know yet about his bedside manner, I will update you after my surgery.

Dr. Nye was open, informative, seemed to genuinely care about his patients. The only changes of my impression were just things that were more favorable about the man. I would love to have him for a neighbor.. Great sense of humor..The office staff...wow..what can I say from the very first day I walked or hobbled in they made me feel so welcome. They know all their patients by name and they are so full of encouragement. Any future patients should feel extremely comfortable puttting their lives in his hands. Dr. Nye has been in all my follow up appointments. He told me how proud he was of the fact that I had lost 135 pounds. I thanked him for saving my life and he actually ducked his head..what a man not afraid to show emotion.
He stresses aftercare in fact I will be seeing him for the next five years. He was extremely informative about the risk of the surgery. I will say because of my lymphadema I experienced some complications and ended up in the hosptital for 14 days instead of the three that I expected. The staff @ Baptist hospital Intensive Care took great care of a guy who was in lala land for at least 11 of those days.. Dr. Nye is just great overall.

Dr. Nye answered all of my questions and made me feel more at ease about the surgery. I like the fact that he follows up on your care for 5 years after the surgery. He let me know that this surgery has risks. My overall thought of him is he cares about his patients and makes sure they are taken care of even years after surgery.

I liked Dr. Nye from the very first time I ment him for he gave me his undivided
attention. I still think he is great after 6mos.. His office staff are wonderful and very personal and they remember my name and that is always nice to hear your not just a number. He will keep track of me for 5 yrs. for he wants me to be completly healthy. He emphasize aftercare, he even takes others who have had surgery from another doctor who didn't follow them afterwards. He does address the risk of surgery and he lets one know just how many he has lost and why. He has not lost as many as others and they where mostlty due to bloodclots which he has no control at all. He has only lost 5 out of over 1000 surgeries...........thats really good! I think he is the greatest and I am so very glad I was blessed to be in his hands.......Both surgical competence and bedside manner are important to me and he did both exceptionally well.
