Attila Nakeeb, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

I liked him immediately. He's very easy to get along with. The office staff at Froederdt is wonderful, I continue to see Deborah Andris P.A. and she is very helpful. Dr. Nakeeb has left Milwaukee and has taken a position in Indianapolis, In. I was disappointed that he left but the care I have received has been great. They are glad that I have progressed this far and that I am attending support meetings, even if I'm not making the 45 minute trip to Milwaukee each month. Support groups are an extremely important part of our recovery and the results that we are able to achieve from having the surgery. The program I attended before surgery has a whole package of information about all aspects of the surgery. You have to be seen by a psychologist before the procedure to make sure you understand what you are about to do and what a major surgery this is. I had an abcess after surgery and Dr. Nakeeb was so quick in taking care of it before the infection spread. I had total confidence in him and his staff. I believe that hospital lost a valuable asset when he left. I feel both surgical competence and bedside manner are important. If anyone is considering this surgery they should research it completely and make this decision based on what's good for them. No one can make this decision for you. My experience with this procedure wasn't too bad but it can be a life threatening situation, this is what you have to realize.

Very nice man. Answered all my questions. His staff is good, they just don't like you to bring your children with you. They really emphasize aftercare. They knew I drove a distance so I skipped my 3 month check up because I was doing so well. They have a structured aftercare program. They explained the risk of having the surgery. I think he is a very good Doctor I would recomend him to anyone.

After reading on this site for about 6 months now, I have decided to go forward. I will have my initial orientation on Jan. 13, 2003 at Froedert Hospital and then will have my first doctor appointment with Dr. Nakeeb on Jan. 29, 2003. More to come....
Jan 29, 2003 Today I met Dr. Nakeeb at Froedert Hospital for my consultation. I am a nurse, so I have met many doctors, and I must tell you about my impression of Dr. Nakeeb. He was so easy to talk with, open, honest, knowledgable, patient, caring and compassionate! I honestly could go on and on. He listened to my questions and answered them honestly. I am feeling very confident about having him perform the operation on me.

I initially met Dr. Nakeeb at the orientation meeting that Froedtert requires. He gave a presentation on the surgery. I was very impressed with his demeanor and how he responded to people's questions. He seemed very approachable, which is, of course, a very good thing. Then, at my first surgeon's appointment, it sealed the deal. I knew that I would be comfortable with him as my surgeon. I've never had surgery before but I feel in good hands under the care of Dr. Nakeeb and Froedtert. My parents came with me to both the orientation and the meeting. They were both impressed. He spoke openly and honestly of the risks, complications and outcomes of the surgery. He answered all of our questions. He has a very dry sense of humor, which is very close to my own. The only bad thing was how long we had to wait to actually see the doctor, and since Froedtert is a teaching hospital, you are also dealing with a medical student, which can be uncomfortable. But, so far, so good.

3/19/03: After my bad experiences with Dr. Chua, I have selected Dr. Atilla Nakeeb, MD. I found Dr. Nakeeb to have a very similar personality as me, funny and yet sarcastic. That made me feel at ease with him. My surgery is TOMORROW morning, so I'll have more to say after that. After my experiences with Dr. Chua, I'm very careful who I endorse!

My wife Arlene, and I both met with Doctor Chua on May 14th. (I just figured out how to put info here...sorry!) We were greeted warmly, and not as another fat person walking in the door. Dr. Chua spent as much time as we wanted answering questions and going through various options. He didn't have one prescribed procedure he uses for everyone, but rather had a different opinion on what I needed vs. my what my wife needed. Also, he identified our eating habits and told us of possible complications down the road if those specific eating habits didn't change. He has over 30 years experience and has performed over 1000 procedures, and did admit to having 1 death. She was 68 years old and 800 lbs, and surgery was not recommended, so I cut him some slack :). Our insurance required a Psych Evaluation and Tammy Lynn, his assistant gave us some recommendations. She has been very helpful and a joy to deal with. As things stand now, we're waiting for insurance approval on me. If I live through this, my wife will have it too (just kidding). I am very confident about the approval because I already did some prelim work with them, and they told me the exact requirements needed for approval, and we both meet them hands down. The only negative I noticed in Dr. Chua's office was that he did not have any Obese Friendly Chairs (no arms), which we thought was odd. I mentioned that to him, and he didn't even realize it, but promised to change it.

Dr. Nakeeb is a very kind man. He really seemed to care about me, not like most physicians I've had all my life who have looked through me or beyond me, but he really seemed genuinely concerned and wanting to help. He's a very busy man and it does take some time to get an appointment. His nursing staff seems okay, very sensitive to this issue. The office staff who works on the approval paperwork was a little frustrating, probably because I had insurance issues at first and had to switch to my husband's insurance to get this covered. Froedtert & Medical College in Milwaukee has a very organized team approach to this surgery and I feel very comfortable with them. They do a lot of them and I feel confident in their ability.

Dr. Nakeeb was kind, gentle and knows what he's doing. He was able to perform the surgery laproscopic when we thought it couldn't be done that way because of my BMI being close to 68. I would recommend him to anyone. He did a great job, I had absolutely no complications whatsoever. His staff is the best - everyone is very caring and understanding. I felt comfortable with Dr. Nakeeb right off the bat, and I wasn't scared at all. I was confident that he knew what he was doing. They have a very structured aftercare program. He did address the risks of surgery, but I knew the risk I would be taking by not having the surgery was much greater. I would have the surgery over again if I had to with Dr. Nakeeb and I wouldn't want any other doctor. His bedside manner was great, too. I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Nakeeb. I was more than 100% satisfied with him.

He is genuine, upbeat, smart, and supportive!
Aftercare in this program is structured for 5 years +; All people are required to take a half day VERY honest look at bariatric surgery, the good, the bad, and the ugly. It actually made me chicken out, but then 6 months later I changed my mind. Dr Nakeeb and the Bariatric staff are excellent, but you have to be ready for alot of truth.

Dr. Nakeeb. AAttila is a very good surgent.i have nothing but the up most respect for him. If you don't understand something he will explain it to you. he keeps up on your progress after the surgery for 5 years witch i think is really great. He wants to see how you progress with the weight loss. He is very carring.

I am so incredibly happy with my surgeon. HE and his staff have answered my questions and help me along the way. He addressed all the risks with me and walked me through everything. His bedside manner is great. His team took wonderful care of me.
