Dr. Alexander was very patient and did not rush me.. I had many questions and I know he has heard them thousands of times, but he made me feel that I was the only one.. The one person that met me at the desk was just there to answer my questions, that's all she did, except the sign in routine and the lady with insurance, the office manager, was either too busy or had her mind on other things.. She did her job.. Not very much encouragement, but of course, maybe that is not their job..

The very 1st thing that I thought of Dr Alexander is that he truly did care about ME as a person. He told me at the end of our 1sr visit that if I or my husband had any questions at all to call him that it did not matter if it was after business hours that he would call me back. Later that night after discussing the surgury with my husband he had questions that I did not think of so I took him up on his offer to call and do you know what he called me back faster than any doctor had ever had it was literally within 5 mins! I was so impressed you know those doctors that take an hour to call you back if they do before you call back to have them paged again. My impression of him over time only was that I was even more impressed with him and his true care for me as a person and not a paycheck! And as far as his staff they were as nice as could be.There is not a single thing not to like about Dr. Alexander he is truly the best doctor in the world. The one thing that you need to know about Dr. Alexander is that he is there for you. Dr Alexander emphasizes a great deal on your after care. He insist that you are on a multi vitiam and that you eat properly. I wouldn't say that he has a structured aftercare program.Dr. Alexander does inform you of the risk but he does assure you that the risk of being overweight far outweigh the risks of the surgry. As far as rateing him as an over all doctor there is not enough words in the English language to praise him enough HE(this surgury) truly changed my whole life in every way! As far as his bedside and surgical competence I think you get the picture they far exceed great! This of course is just my personal experience. I guess what makes him such a great docor to me is that anytime I have had a problem or question and I called him he would always call me back so fast and if he felt that he needed to see he would tell me to go into the office the following day even if he was not going to be there ( it was a surgury day) he would do his surgury and then meet me in the office!

My first appointment with Dr. Alexander was 1/10/02. I had visited with other local surgeons, but the reviews I read here made me want to meet Dr. A as well. I was not dissappointed. Although the wait time was a bit long, I haven't met many surgeons who did run right on time. I wasn't really concerned about office manner (Although Dr. A's is very good) or timeliness, but my concern was in the cutting...as a first class surgeon that I'm going to let open me up, that should be where his greatest interest lies...the perfection of the surgery. I left knowing that he was the surgeon for me! I've had all the tests done, and my surgery date is set for Feb. 13. I think that is pretty darn quick! The office staff has been helpful and very nice. As I continue to meet people who have already had their RNY with Dr. Alexander, my impression has continued to improve. The aftercare program is not as intensive as some people would probably like it. There is no nutritionist on staff, nor is there an excercise therapist, but all my research has given me the answers that I needed in those areas, and I'll get the rest straight from Dr. Alexander. Overall rating...Very High!
2/24/02 Well, It's over and done, and I'm almost 2 weeks out. I haven't been on a scale to see how much I've lost, but I already feel lighter. Everything went very well, and honestly...it wasn't as bad as I had it made up to be. Go For It!!!

I met with Dr. Alexander on 10/23/01 for the first time. I chose him because of the many good things I had read about him through this website. He was very thorough and helpful in answering questions and giving both my husband and I positive feedback. My husband was not 100% on board, but after meeting with Dr.Alexander, he is now supportive and ready for me to make this change. Dr. Alexander's office staff was very good. His office manager came out and introduced herself personally prior to my visit with him, which was a warm touch. Dr. Alexander was actually running late for my appointment and I went to the desk to ask how much longer. The young lady at the desk went directly to his office and he immediately came out and apologized for being late. He spent as much time as we needed from that point on, never making us feel rushed. Dr.A. seems to have put together a very good group of doctors and associates to assist in this process, including aftercare. He didn't dwell on the risks, really he was more positive as he hasn't had any complications or deaths from any of his patients, according to what he said. I would say, that from my first impression, I was very happy. Both my husband and I walked away with a much better feeling about the entire process than what we came in with.
He seems very confidant and with his track record, it would appear he has got the perfect blend between competence and bedside manner!
His office sent in my insurance letter the very next day, so I will update when that comes through. We did set up my endoscopy for 11/14, and he assured me that he would be able to do the surgery before the end of the year as my insurance changes for 2002.
All in all, it was a very positive experience. Surgery was on 12/11/01, everything went very well, I was back at work on 1/7. My biggest problem was with the tube itself, but Dr.A did a great job with everything. I think his aftercare probably leaves a little to be desired, but with the support group, you never feel alone. As of 2/14, 50 pounds gone!

I had an acquaintance who had his WLS done by Dr. Alexander, and he was very pleased, so I got in touch, and found Dr. Alexander to be pleasant, knowledgeable and ENTHUSIASTIC. His confidence is gives a real boost to people whose fears might keep them from considering WLS. His staff is pleasant and helpful. What I liked best is Dr. Alexander's willingness to discuss any facet of the procedure and he endures any question, no matter how elementary it may be. He sincerely appears to care about people, and take outward joy in their success.

I'm a bit concerned about his lack of complete aftercare programs, but he has headed me in the direction of people who offer it.

i really liked dr alexander. he did not look at me like ias disgusting. in fact he explained everything and told me i was very pretty and gave me a hug and said it would be okay. i have had the \'psycho exam, stress test and EGD. just waiting for the insurance company to gat off their duff and say yes.

I had my surgery 01-21-02 and everything went well. dr alexander was great. i ran a fever and they could not get a hold of him for hours but that may have been the nursing staff at the hospital(i was not impressed)
i recommend dr. alexender to anyone. I would like to complain about a member of his office staff, dr alexander warned me to stay on top of everything and I am glad I did, sometimes I felt I was doing his insurance specialist job. I had to basically harass her to get some answers and when I apologized for being pushy she was snooty about. My sister and I discussed this particaliar staff member because we were hearing many complaints from other patients, some who wanted to seek another doctor and we are hoping she is just overbeardened with her job. I believe she may not have full knowledge of all the different insurance companies and their different rules. Dr. Alexander needs to make his phone # metro so it is not long distance for the rest of his patients not living in dallas.

I was very impressed with Dr. Alexander's personable demeanor. He was very friendly and caring and explained many questions that I had before I ever asked them. I am still waiting on insurance approval and thus far, my opinion of him has not changed. His office staff was very accomodating, but not overly agressive as far as pushing the insurance. He encourages his patients to take action to keep the ball rolling. I am personally agressive and prefer to work this way. There was nothing in particular that I did not like about him or his staff. At this point there wasn't much stressed about after care. I do know that there is a support group made up of previous patients and I look forward to joining them. Dr. Alexander did cover the risks of surgery, but seemed to really focus on the positive aspects of the post-op life. I have had surgery yet. I will update as my time comes closer.

Dr. Alexander is very professional and very knowledgable. He has been doing this surgery since 1989. His staff gets you in and out quickly...I never have had to wait at all...even for my consultation. He requires several tests before he will do the surgery, including a 1-hour long stress test (it wasn't that bad), a psychological assessment, a EDG, and a physical. It sounds like a lot but they get this done VERY quickly so that you can get approved. I did all of this in a little over a week, except for the physical which you cannot do until 6 days before your scheduled surgery date.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Alexander on January 15, 2002. I feel really comfortable with him. At this point his staff has started the ball rolling. I'm prepared for a long struggle with my insurance company. I am so ready to get the show on the road!

Dr. Alexander was very friendly, open and caring, and intelligent.

I am very grateful that I found him, he is everything that I would want out of a physician.

Very kind, and caring, they went above and beyond whenever I had a question or problem and they would return a call very shortly.

That they are in the best of hands with Dr. Alexander and his staff. He will return a call in a blink of an eye and will take time to talk and explain anything.

Dr. Alexander taught me all I needed to know about aftercare.

I really don't know exactly what you mean about an aftercare program, I have been to the office post op and he went over how to care for myself, diet, exercise, etc. And I also have more follow ups to go.

He explained the risks of surgery, but I felt very confident in him, and his procedure.

The very best.

Both were great.
