Alexander Center for Obesity Surgery Bariatric Center
I found Dr. Alexander a very nice, informed person. I will say however that I felt rushed and that he felt that since my sister had the surgery that he really didn't need to go over anything with me. I don't feel I have ever had any aftercare at all. I never saw a nutrionist and alot of the things I have found out, I have found out on my own.
His office is always packed full and expect to wait when you go to see him. He has a great bedside manner and is very competent at what he does, and that is why I went to him in the first place. His office staff was going through some changes when I first went there, so everyone was quite new, therefore I kind of took it upon myself to deal with the insurance company. I do feel that as far as expecting any outstanding aftercare program, don't!!! I have not seen one, but if you ask questions, he will get back to you and make you feel at ease. All in all I would say if you looking for someone who knows there stuff, it is Dr. Alexander.
DR. A'S OFFICE HAS BEEN WONDERFUL. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN MY PCP. DR A'S OFFICE CALLS ME BACK IMMEDIATELY IF THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY ARE VERY SUPPORTIVE. THEY REALLY SEEM TO CARE THAT I AM SUFFERING ON A DAILY BASIS AND THAT JUMPING THROUGH THE INSURANCE AND PCP'S HOOPS WHICH STALL MY SURGERY HOPES REALLY UPSET ME.
I AM STILL WAITING FOR A REFERAL FROM MY PCP (SAID I HAVE TO SEE A NUTRITIONIST FOR 12 WEEKS BEFORE HE WILL REFER ME) SO THAT I CAN ACTUALLY MEET DR. A IN PERSON!
LOVE HIS STAFF!
My first impression of Dr. Alexander was that he was a very nice, funny, easy going doctor. I went to his office when they were going through a transistion in office staff, so it was a little confusing as far as who to go to with questions. For instance, regarding insurance and scheduling a date. My one concern would be the aftercare, I feel like I left the hospital in a fog. I didn't know what to eat, or when I needed to see him again etc. I wish they had a structured aftercare program, or a support group it would be a great help.
I liked him very much. He genuinely cares about his patients.
Since my surgery and some complications I trust him even more.
His staff is nice and as helpful as can be. They seem to be hampered somewhat
by his not being there very often, but I can always get him quickly which is all
that really matters.
The aftercare so far has been good. You don't know how all this will go till you
really go through it, and a lot of it is just talking to others who have been where you are.
I felt completely confident with Dr. A's surgical team and technique. He has every step fully
outlined for you going in.
His competence, bedside manner and all are top rate and excellent. I trust him completely!
I really liked Dr. Alexander and the time he
spent with my husband and I during our consultation.
He was very thorough and answered all of our questions.
His staff left a bit to be desired, I thought.
I have pretty much done all the work. Each time I call the only progress made is because of
things I have done.
I liked least the fact that you have to pay
his consultation fee before you even see the
doctor. I asked if I could wait and pay
after the consulation and they said that his "policy" is for all the
patients to pay first. I know other doctor's do that as well, but that's just a pet
peeve of mine.
The staff is very nice but I do I have done all the work with the insurance, etc. I realize that this is my body and they might not have any personal interest, but it is what they get paid for afterall.
12/7/01-I had my EGD yesterday! I didn't really know what to expect but it wasn't that bad. I did remain a tad bit nauseous for the remainder of the day - from the anesthetic, I'm sure. I felt fine this morning though. I have a surgery date scheduled for 1/9/02. I'm a little anxious because I do have small children to care for and I'm not sure what the recovery will be like. Any help from anyone reading this that is post-op that can offer some helpful info in that area will be greatly appreciated!!
Dr Alexander is the Best Surgeon you could possiblly find if you are in the Dallas Ftworth Area i highlly recommend him.
My husband and i were very impressed upon meeting him the first ti me and our feelings stayed the same afterwards,..he will answer any questions you have and he is by FAR the BEST you'll find!!!!!
My AfterCare was so wonderfull that any feelings i had like anxiety and fear were all erased because he cares so much and he understands.
I was very impressed with Dr. Alexander, and I remember that he had done laser surgery many years back for a hernia repair for my husband. His office staff was helpful and friendly; they are new after what appears a transition period. This doesn't bother me at all because I am "totally take charge" with regard to my own wellness, and I am not afraid to be assertive and ask for what I need. I do encourage all of you to "push" for surgery dates, letters, whatever else you need. I went with my records copied, and I was prepared to get this handled immediately. I am impressed that Dr. Alexander uses the team approach and has many skilled professionals available should the need arise; i.e. cardiologist, pulmonary specialist, dietician, etc. I am not for sure about the aftercare program, and I feel that I have talked to many of his patients post op that have given me the info I need; I feel, however, that I need nutritional counseling asap. I have also gone to Vitalady.com and ordered samples of the different protein powders that I will mix up pre-op and try so I can order the flavors that I like and have them at home when I return. I understand the risks, and while I am not a Polyanna persona, I feel that I had to do something before other ailments occurred, and the quality of my life went into the toilet bowl.
Dr. Alexander is a compassionate man with high regard for the problems facing obese people. He is encouraging and extremely professional. His office staff is there for YOU. They walk with you every step of the way. You can never call them too many times. My pet peeve with Dr. Alexander is that he talks sooooo fast. I was thrilled that his talking too fast was my only problem. He is a wonderful surgeon who understands the every day life of people and wants us all to experience the joys of life as soon after surgery as possible. I really have nothing but the highest regard for Dr. Alexander's professionalism and bed side manner. He makes you feel like you are very special to him and he cares about you. On a scale of 1-10 Dr. Alexander gets a 10+ with me.
What a wonderful first meeting! I came out of Dr. Alexander's office walking on air. First of all, as my husband and I sat waiting our turn to meet with him we had the opprotunity to chat with his current patients. It was a total 'Lovefest' and they only had excellant things to say about Dr. A.
Upon finally meeting him I found him to be very caring, compassionate, sincere and personable. He was great at answering all of my questions even before I asked one! He makes you feel very comfortable with the entire procedure. Now mind you, He was not the first surgeon I had talked to, but he was definantly the best and want him to do my surgery. Sabrina is in charge of his insurance dept. and was very helpful and calming when it came to all the paperwork. I met with Dr. A. on 8/8/01 and my paperwork for insurance approval went out the very next day! I am living on pins and needles until we hear from the insurance.....I go next Friday for my EGD. I will post more when I get my date.
I was approved on 9/7/01 and had my surgery on 9/10/01. Just 2 days after approval! Wow! talk about fast! I had no complications with my surgery and it went just as Dr Alexander explained it would. After 3 days I went home and have been recuperating nicely since. YES, I would do it all over it again and YES I would want Dr. Alexander to be the one to do the procedure. He has not once steered me wrong and being his patiant has been a joy. It has now been 2 months since my Open RNY procedure and I have lost 60lbs (starting weight 304lbs). I still have a long way to go but already feel so much better.
