Alejandro Aguirre Wallace, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center
I have spoken to Dr. Aguirre's daughter who is his assistant. She spoke perfect English and was very upbeat and polite. I was given the date I wanted and told the apartment was available. Rosella told me what I needed to do beforehand and what the procedures are when I arrive. So far a pleasant adventure!
Dr. Aguirre is a gifted surgeon that is a caring and compassionate human being. He genuinely cares about his patients. Since he is in Mexico I didn't meet him prior to the day before surgery but I communicated with him via e-mail. He answered all my questions that I had. Because he is in Mexico he doesn't have a structured aftercare program since most patients don't see him again after they return home. It's important to have a PCP at home that will follow up.

I have been e-mailing back and forth with Dr. Aguirre and have a date of July 8. I was really hoping to get in sooner as my son in getting married in Sept. and I wanted a little head start on the weight and to be sure I would be feeling fully recovered by then to help with the wedding etc. I was denied by Aetna and appealed last week, but after all the raves about Dr. Aguirre I feel like I want to go with him regardless of the outcome. Of course it would be nice to not have to take it out of my own pocket. But I would also like good care and he sounds terrific. I am so impressed with how he gets right back to me and it is him personally not an office staff I have to fight to get info from.
I am four weeks post op with Dr. Aguirre and cannot say enough good things about him. He now has his daughter working with him and she is just as wonderful. Dr. Aguirre took such great care of me and responded to all my questions promptly pre-surgery. He met with me as soon as I arrived in Mexico and his daughter did all the logistical work to make sure I was as happy and comfortable as possible. The hospital was fine, the staff doesn't speak much English but Dr. A's daughter sticks by your side to help.
Dr. Aguirre in Ensenada, Mexico is one stellar surgeon. He has been very easy to deal with - unlike most doctors and surgeons here in the US. He doesn't make you lose weight prior to surgery, he doesn't have you on a liquid diet for 3 months, he doesn't require you to jump through his hoops. He cares greatly about people and obviously takes great pains to ensure we all have a good experience. He is always accessible and goes out of his way to ensure you are doing well. Call him on a Sunday? Yup - I did. And I apologized all over myself, but he was so very kind and caring - AND reassuring. Additionally, his daughter Rosella has taken on many tasks to help ensure the patients are comfortable. She is always available as well. I, like pretty much everyone before me, had a wonderful experience and I truly am indebted to him for saving my life.
Dr. Aguirre is a highly skilled surgeon who performs only 1 surgery a day about 4 days a week. I assume he does it this way because he values having a life outside of work, but he also has more time to make available to his patients outside the OR. The fact that I know he isn't performing more than 1 surgery a day (unless there is an emergency) comforts me and makes me feel like he saves his energy for each patient. Here is a man who knows not to burn himself out.
Dr. Aguirre is quickly forming a fan club of sorts due to his care and skill. Having had this surgery 1 month ago now, the more I read about other people and the ways their surgeries were different, how they struggle with head hunger, how many of them have serious complications, I say now that I would also go back to Dr. Aguirre in a heartbeat. I have had people tell me that even if they had insurance, they would still see Dr. Aguirre. I didn't think I would feel that way, and I have to admit if 100% was paid, I would have indeed stayed local, but if I had the money to pay out of pocket for any surgeon anywhere, I would choose, again, Dr. Aguirre. I feel fabulous in so many ways.
Dr. Aguirre kicks butt!!! He is one of those rare Surgeons that listens to you. I can tell he wants to know you as a person and not just a patient. He very much cares for his pateints as well as his staff. He came to check on me at least 2 times a day to say hello and to give me a rundown of what the surgery was for so I know when I leave I can make sure I have listened to what is to become of the new pouch that was created. What surgeon whould walk a patient after getting discharded escourt them to their taxi and gives them a hug? He says hello to everyone and not make them feel less than. Dr. Aguirre is a warm a fuzzy easy going family oriented man, than our surgeons in the united states that seem to be always in a hurry and make you feel like you are going to get an interview, whats the word,...intimidating.
You are babied through everything
regardless of the language barrier of his staff, everyone there is so sweet and caring, you are monitored quite closley with his nurses and they come immediately if you need something, they will help you with your pain/sleep/nasea meds with a warm inviting smaile on thier face. I have no complaints whatsoever.
Rosella is Dr. Aguirres daughter, she is one bubbly, duracell bunny that keeps going and going and going..... Ask her anything she will immediately help you in what your needs are. Quite a sweetheart and extreamly funny. She made me laugh so much that my staples were stretching.
I have pictures and documents I will add on on my site that my husband will create so you can see what I did. I have an upclose picture of what my staples look like a few hours after surgery was over.
Dr.Aguiree & staff 5 STAR***** EXCELLENCE
