Advanced Laparoscopic Associates Bariatric Center
I just found my paper to be able to log onto this site. I had my surgery 3 years ago. I went to a seminar at Hackensack Hospital and was so very impressed with all 3 of the surgeons, but one stuck out to me. It was Dr. Douglas Ewing. He had such a wonderful friendly demeanor. When the seminar was over and we could go and speak to the surgeons individually, I immediately realized that he was the person I wanted to do my surgery. He is a very compassionate, patient, friendly person. There was no question that I asked that he was not willing to answer. He explained to me the risks and the benefits of both the lap-band and gastric by-pass surgery, but yet told me that it was entirely my decision. I eventually decided on the lap-band and am so happy I did. Dr. Ewing was saw me through my first year and I am sad to say I haven't been back to have it tightened because my insurance changed. I am planning on going back soon.
If you are considering Bariatric surgery, I would highly recommend Dr. Ewing. If you are looking for someone who is completely interested in helping you lose weight, not just for his ego but because he genuinely cares, then Dr. Ewing is your surgeon.
Thank you Dr.Ewing, because of you I am 80lbs thinner and am looking forward to losing another 80 lbs. I will be in to see you soon.
I realize this was my personal experience, and I cannot say everyone will be as satisfied as I am because everyone is looking for something different. I can honestly say that there is nothing negative that I can say about my experience, other then I wish they took more insurances so that I could have continued to get my band tightened.

Dr. Schmidt installed my lapband in December 08. I've lost 56 lbs thusfar and am 61 years old.
The operation was very easy - he's done so many - no complications whatsoever.
He is always friendly, informative and puts me at ease.

He is is well versed in all aspects of bariatric surgery. Answered all my questions without a blink of the eye. I am very pleased with my decision to use him.
My first impression of Dr. Schmidt was that he seemed to have lots of surgical experience and he appeared to be very professional, humble, kind, and knowledgeable about all kinds of laparoscopic abdominal surgery (not just bariatric). I have asthma and it was actually my Pulmonologist who first recommended him to me. I was particularly concerned about how my Fibromyalgia, hiatal hernia, GERD (Reflux), and asthma would possibly impact gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Schmidt answered all of my questions very thoroughly. He in turn also asked me many relevant medical history questions which reassured me that he was very thorough. I left my first office visit with him alleviated of all fear, and optomistic about going forward with the RNY. He had me obtain many different medical clearances from my other doctors, but his staff helped me get through all the red tape. Consequently, I had my Roux-en-Y surgery done by Dr. Hans Schmidt on 8/31/09 at Hackensack University Hospital and have had absolutely no major post-op problems. I found Dr. Schmidt's bedside manner to be very quiet, gentle and concerned. That, coupled with his noteworthy medical/surgical competence was very reassuring.rn I was very impressed with his entire staff too, particularly with Kathleen, the R.N. who runs his Post-Op aftercare program. On top of the professional Nutritionists that Dr. Schmidt has on staff that I'll be able to see for the rest of my life, Kathleen is like a down-to-earth walking encyclopedia of nutritional and medical knowledge that I found to be very sweet and helpful too. rn In my experience I have found that some surgeons will \"say\" they have a good aftercare program, but when you really take a good look at what they offer, you realize it is all a lot of hype. Dr. Schmidt actually gives you the most thorough and structured aftercare program you can imagine. He seems to be really interested in helping people get healthy and stay healthy for their entire lives. rn I would absolutely rate Dr. Schmidt a 10, on a scale of 1 to 10. These are just my own personal impressions of my own surgical experience and I am making no statements about what other people may experience. I just consider him to be \"the Top Doc\" in Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery in all the Tri-State area. What else can I say? He is fantastic. I truly feel blessed to have found such a competent surgeon.
Very nice, personable and told it like it was, he didn't sugar coat anything.rnrnMy impression has not changed other than I got to see and hear what a nice man he is.rnrnThe staff has been quite helpful so far.rnrnHaven't disliked anything.rnrnDr. Trivedi doesn't try to convince you go a path your not wanting to take, he tells it like it is and lets you make up your mind.rnrnDr. Trivedi as well as his entire staff are very careful to make sure that your aftercare is taken care of, including hour long post op meeting to go over your diet and care. They even have a full time nutritionist on staff that is free of charge to you for life.rnrnThe risks of surgery were given to me as they are - not sugar coated either.rnrnSo far I rate Dr. Trevedi a 10!rnrnSurgical competence although very imporatant, I wouildn't be able to deal with a doc with no bedside manner.
When I first met Dr. Ewing I was impressed with his soft demeanor and warm smile. He was patient with my many questions and answered each very easily. I also had a hernia that needed repair and we discussed any possible complications. Everyhting was explained very well.rnDr. Ewing explained that I needed to attend the weight loss surgery seminar before I could schedule the surgery. I already registered for the seminar. The seminar didn't inform me of anything I hadn't already researched regarding the actual surgery.rnWhat impressed me was the aftercare program and the lifetime dietician availability. Although I have only met once with Kathy for aftercare information, I am anticipating that the next appointment to meet with the R.D. will meet my expectations as well.rnI must comment on the positive experience of Hackensack Hospital and all the staff I met before and after surgery. As a surgical frequent flyer (several prior health issues), I am a bit of an expert on hospital care for patients. This experience was the best ever! Everyone was courteous and professional. The hospital was clean and modern. My husband and I were pleasantly and consistently surprised by the care.rnMy comparison reference is with my daughter's lap band experience. She had her lap band surgery with a differet surgeon and hospital. It didn't come close to the care I received and the after care program as well. There were very broad and distinct differences. Dr. Ewing's office will take other lap band patients for after care as well.rnDr. Ewing and all of his office staff have excellent patient rapport and bedside manners! I healed quickly and with very little discomfort - most was from the hernia healing not the lap band.rnMy post op visit was a positive experience as well.rnI would highly recommend Dr. Ewing for weight loss or general surgical issues!!rn
I had attended a few seminars for Lap Band surgery and had not felt comfortable with any of the doctors I meet. When I attended Dr. Ewing's, (Lap Band Associates, Paramus, NJ)seminar I knew right away that he was the surgeon for me. He has a very gentle manner and caring way that put me at ease. rnrnWhen it came time for surgery my feelings about him were even more confident. I was nervous and he and the entire staff at the Surgical Center made me feel great! I didn't just arrive at the center and boom into surgery, we talked and laughed. All my fears were addressed and Dr. Ewing patiently answered all my questions and concerns. After surgery he made sure I was comfortable and feeling good. rnrnMy first post-op office visit was exciting for me and Dr. Ewing again listend to me and answered questions giving me as much time as I needed. I appreciate this in a doctor. rnrnI highly recommed Dr. Ewing to anyone contemplating Lap Band Surgery. He and the staff at his office are great.
He Was Very Friendly Not Rude Wonderful Man My Mother Got Along With Him N Thats What Matter Most That My Family Got Along With The Surgeon In Case Anything HappenrnrnMy Impression Of Him Has Not Change At All Cuz He Made Sure I Was Always Okay N Felt ComfortablernrnWelll His Staff I Understand They Get A Lil Busy And Caught Up With So Many Appointments But They Have There Days Where They Can Be A Lil Rude But Also Are Very Good With Giving Information Out But Its Amazing How Many People Work In His Office N No One Picks Up The PhonernrnThere Is Really Nothing Bad Bout Dr. Schmidt He Is What I Said Before Never Changes Every Doctor Appointment I Felt Like I Made A Right Desicion Choosing Him As My DoctorrnrnAfter Care Was Very Good Him N His Team Was Wonderful Very Caring Made Sure I Was Comfortable Did Everything Possible To Make Sure I Recover 100%rnrnYES They Do Tell You The Risk Of The Surgery Total Deaths N Complications The Diet All The Information They Tell You At The Semoniar And At The Appointments They Answer All Your Questions They Send You Home With HandBooks All Bout The Surgery rnrnrnHonestly I Rate Him From 1 to 10 a Big 10 He Was Better Then I Thought Took Care Of Every Problem I Had Before N After My Surgery Loved Himrnrnrn
I found Dr. Schmidt to be a real down to earth guy. I feel he shows concern for me. He has a great bedside manner.
I was very scared to get surgery but I felt very comfortable with Dr. Schmidt's ability to do a great job. He is a wonderful doctor. I had RNY surgery 1 1/2 weeks ago and I feel great!!!
