Martha, My new tummy was transected and stitched. Lets start with the transection. That is when they separate the new tummy completely from the orginial one. The benefits of this are that the new tummy will form scar tissue as it heals and that eventually, according to my surgeon will prevent the possibility of leaks. Now stitches, what my surgeon does, in creating the new tummy is staple two rows of stitches, then two rows of hand sewing to ensure that there are no leaks or possibility of leaks. This is just his way of being extra cautious. I imagine this is what you have heard about regarding stitching the new tummy. It would be something to ask your surgeon about when you speak with him. Hope this helps Tami

In the eyes of society they do view the different side of the issue very differently, such as Obesity they feel it is our fault, (why dont we just change our ways, how can we do that to ourself?) (Anorexia they view as poor people have a problom, who caused them to feel they need to cause themself harm? How can we help them feel better and secure within them self?) But to us (the person with the disorder) we have the same insecurities not same issues caused by our bodies but mental insecurities within ourselves. Anorexics do not view themselves in reality the way they really look so your friend may not know how society views her obese people are very aware of how people look at us and view us because we stay very aware of our suroundings. I have been on both sides an your friends comment was more than likely her way of saying "we are the same in different ways and we can help each other through this RIGHT?" Hope this helps, Nicole.

Martha, Just wondering what type of trouble you had with your umbilical hernia? I have one, had it at surgery last May and my Dr. left it. I don't even know I have it honestly. Congrats on doing so well.

Hi Martha, Congratulations on your date. Thank you for your posting. It is truely exciting to get a posting on your site! Well, we are not alone and that's a good feeling. Try to keep a positive and clear mind and things will go smoothly. A few of my clients have had RNY and I have seen their progress over the year, and what an inspiration. Both of us will do great!! Best wishes!-Kim Sanchez
