My condolences go out to John's family. John worked so hard to have surgery and a new life and this is just so unfair. He has touched so many lives on OH and will never be forgotten.

John I won't say that "I don't know you" because I do, and you know me. We all know one another on this board. We share something like no others, and, we feel for one another like no others. For that reason, I say, someone we know has been lost to us in the earthly sense, but is now available to us in a different and more poignant sense. The last line of your Mortality post is for US, and, made me dissolve into tears. How generous of you, and how wonderful to know "you're up there." Good night, John. Peace, at last. Kate

I am having a hard time focusing on my emotions right now. My dear friend John...your kindness and correspondence over the years has meant the world to me. Sharing your journey with me and giving me tips on my own process helped me to be the healthy post op that I am today. Even knowing that my surgery would come before yours, you were unselfish and inspiring. The personal poem you wrote just for me on my surgery day...it brought me strength and courage. John, it is my sincerest wish to never take this gift of surgery for granted. I will use this tool wisely in your honor and every goal I achieve will be one that we accomplished together in spirit! Thank you for gracing me with your friendship. I just know that you have left this earthly body behind and are enjoying your new life, in heaven above, with a new found glory of your body free from obesity. Enjoy my friend. My sincere condolances and prayers go out to John's family today. Janice has my phone number if you need anything at all. In love and friendship,

John, I will miss you. Just wanted to say thank you for being my friend. You were one of the 1st people I met from the OH site & I will never forget you. Rest in peace.

Dearest John, I must confess I'm a lil cranky over having such a beautiful, gentle, courageous and poetic soul ripped from our world. You waited a long time for this surgery date, yet it never kept you from living life and coming together with your friends. In fact, on your to-do list after surgery, you already managed to accomplish a couple pre-surgery like going on a cruise. Through all the fussiness and squabbles on the board, you never once joined in or ever had an unkind word for anyone. You always wanted to help. Even your last living act was purely unselfish; writing a poem in case the inevitable occurred and encouraging us all to keep on fighting. I'm so sorry I missed my opportunity to meet you as you've touched so very many lives. There will never be another John Ott. I'm not a gifted poet, but Mother happens to be and I feel the following two small proses are appropriate and would be appreciated by such a talented fellow. bond what i see there is far more than consolation; it throbs with brotherhood: a jazzy camaraderie, bittersweet with silence. we always do -- you know -- live through it -- we don't always want to -- but we do anyway. we are more durable than we wish to be.

My condolences and my heart go out to you. I am wishing for you as John's family to find peace in your hearts and know just how badly John wanted to take this risk. He was a kind and gentle soul and we all loved him. Ruth Debra

John, you were a bright and shining star to all that knew you, even briefly. You will be sorely missed. May you continue to shine your light down upon us forever. To the family of John: I'm just so incredibly sad - and I know my sadness is a mere speck of your own grief. I hope it helps to know just how important John was to us here during his three years with us. My sincerest condolences to all who are touched by the loss of this wonderful being. Prayers to you, Tooter
