University of Maryland Medical Center Hospital
Dr. Kligman is a great doctor in my opinion. He's very straightforward, and he has no problem answering lots of questions. He can be very "short" with his responses, but he gives you the info you need. He did a very thorough check over on me at my consult, and he gave me the good and bad points of my current physical status. He told me what to do to get ready for surgery and went over everything I'd learned at his seminar 2 weeks prior. He made sure I understood what would happen before, during the time of, and after surgery. He also wanted me to be well aware of the fact that my success will depend on the amount of effort I put into helping myself along. Dr. Kligman encourages support people to attend seminars, appointments, and support groups. He also made sure I had a booklet that I am to study and will be testing me(YES, testing) before my surgery, so he knows I'm aware of what to expect. And due to my history of depression, he wanted an MMPI test done to make sure I could mentally handle the surgery and post-op. That makes me know he cares about the mental and emotional wellfare of his patients, not just the physical side. His staff is very helpful, and Claudia, his assistant, is such a doll!! She helps everyone in every way she can. What a sweetheart.
Be on the alert...Dr. Kligman will NOT sugarcoat anything about what to expect with this type of surgery. He tells you the risks, the details of the procedure, what will happen at the hospital, and what to do afterward. I think it's great that he quizes his patients...it really makes you think about how much you know about what you're doing and where you really stand with your decision, and it lets him know you have thought this over completely. After all, it IS a life altering surgery.
I felt Dr Kligman was very straight forward.
I have no change in impression, stills tells it like it is.
Very imformative and helpful.
He will take his time and explain things, so don't be in a hurry.
Says you need to do as told.
Yes he has a program set up.
He discussed the risks and reasons for wanting the surgery.
I have a lot of comfidence in him and rate him quite high.
I feel both great.
I feel everyone needs to judge for themselves. I think you can tell from first impressions alot, see for yourself.
he was real open and honest about everything he helped me understand all the risk involved and that you have to follow the program to loose your weight and exercise or walk.his staff was fantastic aftercare to take your vitamins and b-12 faithfully,;dr,kligman is a very great doctor he gave me a new chance in life,on a scale from 1 to 10 he is a 20, surgical competence. his bedside manner he can give the patient a little more time to heal and deal with the pain, other than that he is # 1. i would recomend him to everybody.
Dr. Kligman is a real professional!! He answered all my questions honestly and to the point. He drew pictures, gave me a booklet to read and even gave me a written test of my knowlege of the procedure before the surgery. He spoke to my parents, pre-op, and reassurred them that everything was going to be ok.
Dr. Kligman's right hand man, er uh, woman, is Claudia. Claudia was a godsend. When I got real nervous the day before the surgery, I called her and she gave me the reassurrance I needed. She dealt with the insurance company and got me approved in about 2 weeks. She even came to visit me in the hospital!! WOW!
I am following the diet given to me by Claudia and Dr. Kligman. They are in the process of updating it and the post-op prescriptions. I complained about one of the prescriptions costing $284.00 and Claudia said that just recently a new prescription was becoming available at a cheaper cost. All in all, I'd give Claudia and Dr. Kligman an A plus.
I wondered what his motivation was...he's very thin and probably always has been. But he is a skilled surgeon and I imagine the money is good! He's also very busy, therefore doesn't waste a lot of time with his patients....could be a tad warmer, but then I figure I don't have to love the guy, as long as he does a good job. He seems to be a strict taskmaster, but that's a good thing or his patient's might not follow the extreme lifystyle changes that are going to be required to make this surgery successful.
He has a very detailed after care program which is very important. I would highly recommend him and his staff. They worked with me from start to finish to see this through.
I believe being a competent surgeon is far more important than having a warm bedside manner.
Dr Kligman won't do the surgery. I am not sure why. His office rep Claudia, spoke to him for me and he said he won't do it. This was a re-do of the gastric bypass that I need. I last had the gastric by pass done in 1979 and stayed slim till I got pregnant. Re-gained the weight after 4 years. SO, I guess I am destined to be fat forever :(
The staff was wonderful and caring starting with the 1st phone call. Claudia very kind anwered alot of questions. The 1st visit with Dr. Mark Kligman was great he made me feel safe and eager to answer questions. I had researched the different Doctors in the area and Anne from the list here eamiled me and really was suppotive. Dr.Kligman had done her surgery and raved about him also. The preop visit was even better and Doc answered my questions and he has a sense of humor which I like.
The staff again was very supportive. It took awhile for the insurance to approve, but they did thank God. I will give added information after the surgery is completed. He has a support group that meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month that I will be attending. I signed a contract to adhere to his aftercare and his advice. Dr. Kligman really talked alot about possible side-effects that could happen. This was earrie but I trust him and I pray all will go well. I'll take any extra prayers that any of you can send. So far I thinks he's great.
There is not a single word to describe how I feel about having rouen-y-gastric by-pass surgery.Dr mark Kligman is the best that I know in this field. When you decied to chane your life for te better you need all the helpyou can get,and Dr. kligman and his staff are it.Education about what to expect, and a real plan to get you to a healtylife stile is what youget from this Doctor and his staff.
Dr. Kligman seems to really care about his patients and what he can do for them. I think he is very confident in his skills, and expects the patient to do their part to make this a success. He wants the patient to be well-informed, and responded well to all of my questions. He and his office staff have been extremely nice, making me feel comfortable instead of embarrassed about my weight.
I had my consultation visit on 4/10/01 and I thought Dr. Kligman was a very thorough in explaining the pros and cons of the rouex en y surgery. He answered all of my questions and helped put my mind at ease on certain issues that I had. I found Claudia very nice and helpful. She returned every email and phone called that I had for her within a day or two. I was approved on the first letter to my insurance company. My surgery is scheduled for July 13, 2001. I would highly recommend Dr. Kligman.
I am starting week 3 post op. I feel wonderful. I have already lost 15 pounds. I'm getting a bit tired of the liquid diet though. Dr. Kligman was wonderful before and after surgery. Claudia has answered all of my questions immediately. Dr. Kligman was very honest with me about every aspect of the surgery. He is also very caring and considerate. I go back for my 3 week followup visit on Aug. 2.
