UCLA Medical Center Hospital
As a nurse, I am able to say that the nursing care was very poor. It is a very sad day when the nurse has to be told by the patient that she is doing a procedure incorrectly (even though the patient is another nurse). I actually had a nurse tell me, through the intercom system, that my IV had not infiltrated!!! How would she know, she wasn't even in the room? Not one nurse did a physical assessment on me the entire 4 days that I was a patient (they didn't listen for bowel sounds, check my dressing, or even ask if my PCA was providing adequate pain relief). This infuriated me. I'm sure that I made all of the nurses lives so miserable while I was there that they did a dance of joy when I was discharged. The surgeon, the residents, and the nutritionist all did exceptional work. They prepared me for the surgery and what to expect after.
