The hospital facilities were great. When checking in, my family received an ID number that was displayed on a TV screen that let them know when I was being prepped for surgery, in the OR, in recovery, or in my room. I had a room to myself, they were able to stay with me whenever they wanted, and there was no trouble with parking.

While staying overnight, though, I had many problems:
* Someone took my glasses before surgery, and when returned to my room, nobody could find them. I'm nearly blind without them and this left me panicked. I could not find my pain button (which was not clipped to my bed or gown) or the call button so I was left alone and lost. Since I couldn't drink, I was hoarse and couldn't shout to the nurses' station either.

* I was never hooked up to my CPAP machine, which I brought with me. At one point, a respiratory therapist came to my room because there was some concern about my breathing but apparently nobody made the connection.

* I was in severe pain for the entire recovery period because opioid pain meds don't do much for me. I repeatedly told the nurses that I was nauseous due to the pain but I guess they assumed I was queasy for some other reason and their only solution was to hit my pain button and conk me out so I would sleep. From their POV I'm sure it was the correct decision but it was very frustrating.

That being said, the staff was very careful to make sure I was always hooked up to my oxygen tubes, circulation boots, and IV lines. The problem was that I was unable to communicate (probably because I was out of my mind due to serious pain) and things were busy-- I totally understand that.

Overall, though, my memories of my hospital stay are those of complete panic, helplessness, and pain. I'm sure that goes right along with having major surgery to rearrange your guts, but if someone could have tracked down my glasses, or if there were a way to say, "hey, this medicine isn't doing anything and I still hurt," it would have gone a LOT better.

Excellent surgeon, fantastic bedside manner with an encouraging attitude. No question stupid or ignored. He gives good advice, and lots of encouragement. Encourages healthy food choices that are easy to do, plus recipes! His office staff is excellent, knowledgeable, and encouraging. I had a small GIST tumor removed during surgery, without any adverse effects. It's gone, done! I cannot say enough good things about him or his staff.

Dr. Weiner is Absolutely Amazing. He is so caring, and really listens to your concerns, he NEVER makes you feel rushed and he takes the time to make you feel at ease, and to assure that you understand exactly what to expect, which makes you feel as if you're important ~ not just another patient. It's obvious that he really cares about his patients, and wants to help us to reach the best possible outcome! He immediately made me feel at ease, and after speaking with him ~ I was not at all nervous about the surgery. He treats each patient like a person, not a paycheck. He has a great sense of humor and as an added bonus he is Extremely Handsome :) . I can't say enough wonderful things about him and his Staff (Who are all so friendly and helpful as well as professional-Thanks so much Carol/Michelle and all the other ladies-you are the Best). I owe you all my new and improved life! I'll NEVER forget what you've done for me.

When first looking into getting WLS, the surgeons were unlimited and I didn't know who to call first. I had a gut instinct that Dr. Weiner was the right surgeon for me, and I'm so happy I called his office. They were very informative and I felt comfortable right away with him.

He has been crucial in my lapband success and offers tremedous support. He has truly saved my life and I am so thankful each and every day! He is knowledgeable not only with the surgeries but with nutrition and exercise as well.

Lastly someone else mentioned too that he's very good looking, so having to go see him once a month is definitely not a bad thing. :)

Dr. Weiner is awesome

He is well educated and an educator himself. He looks to be around late 30's early 40's but he has a ton of these surgerys under his belt. He listens to you and his staff is very helpful as well. I also heard he's a perfectionist, if you're having surgery that's what YOU would want! Last but not least, he's HOT!! LOL

The only issue was a faulty machine that was to administer my pain meds on demand. This was replaced by a working one before I was ever left alone in my room.

He was so great! He made me feel at ease and visited me before the surgery, after, and the morning after, which I think is pretty great. I have had no complications and he was really experienced when doing my first fill. I would recommend him to anyone!

Good service and time from surgeon and hospital. Would have like a bit more time in follow-up after (like maybe a phone call at home to see how I am doing instead of waiting for me to make the follow-up exam call). All details were covered very well prior to surgery - I would rate him a 7 or 8.

My experience with Dr. Weiner has been a very positive one. He has been very informative and answered all of my questions. His office coordinator is Jackie. She is another reason why I chose to go to Harper Hospital in Detroit. She is very pleasant, funny and even offered her cell phone number if I needed to call with any questions any time of the day or night. Their office is very busy with several other Doctors practicing there, so arrive to your appointment early if you want to get a seat! rn
