Stanford University Medical Center Hospital
Great nursing staff - except for one nurse on the night shift - who was a bit rude. You never feel neglected. Stanford is a teaching hospital, therefore, you are always being checked on. I had to stay a couple of extra days, due to a fever, and my only complaint was the bed. It was 'the' most uncomfortable thing in the world. I should of had them change it right away - the leg area didn't even lift on the thing. But, it seemed like a small problem at the time. If you go to Stanford - be patient, be deligent about keeping copies of ALL your tests and other paperwork. Expect a few glitches, here and there - it happens. Botton line - I couldn't ask for a better surgery experience.
I think Stanford is a good hospital. However, their nursing staff is good but, I do believe they have way too many patients per nurse to attend too. It takes to long for them to respond to you. This was not just one nurse but, most. I think there loads are full. However, each one was pleasant...just overwhelmed with other patients
In general my stay there was pleasant. The first night I was there my roommate (who wasn't a gastric bypass patient) was in a lot of pain. She was up every hour moaning and groaning and scaring the hell out of me, everytime I finally got to sleep. I'm not kidding every hour on the hour she was calling for help. I'm not one to complain, but I needed my rest and being her roommate it wasn't going to happen. I asked the nurse who was assigned to me, that if they could please move me. I felt extremly bad for asking, but I had to think about my own health. They understood why I was complaining and my nurse told me they could hear her from the nursing station, so they understood. The doctors check on you each morning and when they came in to check on me, the lady yelled I kept her up all night. That day they moved my roommate to her own room. They said it would be better to move her then me because they would just get another complaint about her. My new roommate was Jennifer. She was great... She also was a gastric bypass patient. The nurses have to come and check on you like 3 times during the night. They take your blood pressure, check your heart rate and take your temp. Our nurses were coming in at different times. So, your waken up a lot during the night. I understood the nightly check ups. But the one thing both Jennifer and I didn't understand was why they had a cleaning lady come around to dump our trash at 9:30-10:00 at night. That was kinda odd. While your there sleep when you can. Who cares if you sleep all day, cause your nights aren't very restful... You just have to deal with it, and make the best out of it.
