St. Alexius Medical Center Hospital

Anyone of color should be scared to get blood drawn at this hosital from any part of the staff. What kind of comment is ur skin is to dark. I can't see a vein. If you are professional you don't find veins by looking you have to FEEL for the vein.....This hospital had alot of big dummies and after 2 weeks I'm still pissed about this experience.

The day after my surgery I was moved to a renovated floor of the hospital. It was beautiful, clean and full of amenities. When there were issues with my room phone, the entire hospital was quick to apologize and get things corrected (I was visited by no less than 4 people who apolozied for the inconvenience handing out coupons and gift baskets). My only complaint was when I was taken down for an xray on day 3, I was too short for the machine and there were no "approved" step stools for me to stand on (I only weighed 230 at time of surgery). I was required to get up on a very tall, hard machine and lie down flat even with my healing abdominal incisions. Then, I was asked to drink 8 oz of barium by a straw. I was scared and hurting when I left resulting in a major cry, embarassing me and causing great alarm for the nursing staff. I was visited by several higher-up nurses to make sure I was okay, talking with and counseling me, to further my embarassment when I would have preferred to be left alone. That night when they woke me at midnight to teach me how to give myself injections, I had had enough, begging them to just let me sleep. That next morning was the first time I was allowed to sleep until after 6 am before they took my morning blood (the earliest was at 4:30 am). That is why I only give it an average for restful because while required, the constant waking for blood pressure, blood draws and injections through the night was enough to make me exhausted which probably aided my crying jag on day 3. However, my crying episode did afford me a room of my own for the entire stay. Overall, I found the staff extremely professional, kind and courteous and the accommodations excellent.
