First of all, Southside Hospital opened a brand new Bariatric Center about a year ago and they are very attuned to the treatment of obesity. While thery are currently focusing on Gastric Bypass or Banding Surgery, they are also looking at other methods of treating this disease. The hospital itself was recently merged with one of the larger hospital systems on Long Island and is under renovation. In all of my dealings with anyone on staff at the hospital, I have found them to be courteous and extremely helpful.

Dr. Gadaleta saved my life! Yeah I read stuff about his bedside mannor, but I don't see what people are talking about. I think he is truly understanding about morbidly obease people, and cares enough to explain in detail the pros-and cons. I think If you are lucky enough to have Dr. Gadaleta perform your surgery you will be as grateful as I am. Yvonne is also wonderful she takeS care of everything that leads up to the actual date. This my friends is a winning team, you are sure to succeed with the help of Dr. Gadaleta, and Yvonne.

I was fine in the recovery room, but once transfered to the surgical floor I was pretty much left to fend for myself. The hospital needs to improve on its nursing staff. They are probably overworked, which is no excuse for treating patients as if they are a burden. Without the patients the nurses don't have jobs. And I say this as a nurse and patient.

He is a surgeon so I expected him to clear and to the point. He was exactly that, but over all, he is a real wonderful man. He just wants to help us get cured of our disease of obesity. The office staff seemed a bit preoccupied on the phone but once I was in the office I realized they have 8 Dr.s there and I understood!! As soon as I got there, everything was great! Don't be thrown off by Dr. Gadaleta's business like way, he is a surgeon, and a very established one at that. He has been on the commitee for the FDA approval of this surgery, not to mention numerous television appearances. He's in this to help us! He wil tell you about the risks of the surgery in a clear but caring manner, but also reassures you that he is trained thoroughly in bariatric surgery and knows how to fix any problems that could possibly arise! At my presurgical visit he warmed up even more and now that I am post op and I have seen him many times in the past month I can certainly say he is totally caring. He has made me feel so at ease about anything and everything I was worried about. I can't wait to go back in a 2 weeks to see how I did!!

I was nervous about meeting Dr Gadaleta after reading reviews on this site. People described him as cold, and having no bedside manor. I really liked. He very straight foward.I wanted the best best surgeon, his personality really was not that important to me. He was very highly recommeded by a friend of mine who is an MD. He was very informative. Gave me all the info on my surgery, the risks, complications.Stressed the omportance fo aftercare. His office is quite busy, so you do have to wait. Bring somethin to read. I think he is an excellent surgeon. Im very glad I went with him. I would highly reccomend him.

My first impression was that he was going to be quite stern. The exact opposite. He is quite a warm fellow. His staff which some of them are quite cold but Yvonne is just a PEACH! :o) Very thorough and informative young lady. I like her alot! Patients should know before going that this type of surgery is not so you can lose the weight. It is about regaining a healthy life back and adapting and adjusting to a whole new lifestyle.

Dr. Gadaleta stress that it is possible for someone to die during surgery and precautions should made in the event. But for those whose surgeries go off without a hitch, follow up appointments are a must. He could not stress that enough.

Dr. Gadaleta is a very good doctor. I am glad that my original surgeon recommended him to me. Plus I have a friend who had the surgery with him and he is doing just FANTASTIC!!
I will let eveyone know how my surgery has gone God willing and I am able. God Bless You All!

I had spoken to a patient of Dr. Gadaleta's before I saw him so I was "warned" that he was very honest and to the point. Some say that he comes across as "cold" at first, but he wants to ensure each of his patients understands how this surgery effects someones ENTIRE life. All risks are spoken about from the first visit and they are continaully talked about, not to make anyone afraid, but strictly so the patient knows what they are doing to themselves. I liked him from the moment I stepped foot in his office. He answered ALL of my questions and I couldn't ask for a better surgeon. Yvonne is his bariatric coordinator and she is extremely knowledgable on this procedure and can answer ANY question. She ALWAYS calls back when you leave a message, and she is a motivative person who makes each person feel very comfortable in the office. Dr G. and his staff emphasize aftercare from day 1. In the consultation you are told that if you move you are to call the office and give them your new number and address so he can get you the best care in your new state. You are to see him every year and keep in touch with him so he can monitor your success. He has support meetings pre and post-op, and everyone is encouraged to attend. I can't wait until after the surgery to make him and Yvonne proud !

Dr. G. was very professional and informative. He made sure to tell me all the pros and cons of what I was about to undertake.
At first I thought he was a little uptight and he may be but he is a great doctor and I would recomend him.
In general they are good his assistant is a little flaky, but nice.
He knows what he is doing.
Before and after care are very important and they make you agree upfront to particapating in both. I have not gone to meeting because of the time they are held but can always call the office or get a list of others he has treated who will give me support if needed.
Yes they have a very comprehensive after care program.
He addressed the risks very directly. He pulled no punches.
I would rate Dr. G very high.
His surgical competence is his stronger point. Most of my immediate after care was by residents. They were not as good but I was lucky and had no real complications.
These are my personal impressions of my own experience and I am not making any statment about what other people may experience.
