Sharp Memorial Hospital Hospital
So the first question is How Well were they equipped for overweight patients. I have to say that many are more overweight than I. It was ok for me, but may be a little harder for others. But the new building, which I understand will have a Bariatric section, will be much better outfitted for overweight patients, set to open in 2007. The rooms were large enough for two patients/beds, but bariatric patients always get the room to themselves.
MY HOSPITAL STAY I MUST SAY WAS WONDEFUL I AM A NURSE I CANNOT BELIEVE THE KINDNESS AND THE COMPAAION THAT THE THESE NURSES SHOWESD NOT ONLY THAT BUT EVERYONE THAT GREETED YOU THERE HAD A SMILE ON THE FACE AND WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP I COULD NOT HAVE STAYED OR HAD A BETTER HOSPITAL STAY NOT EVEN AT THE FACILITY THAT I AM EMPLOYED THE DID A WONDERFUL JOB
The floor that I was on after surgery was the trama floor and it was a busy place. My room was right next to the nurses station and it was extremely noisy with the door open. The rooms don't have computers in them-- but instead the hallways are lined up with little station/desks where staff transfers information. It made it rather difficult to walk up and down the hallway because it was also crowded with people & carts. I got little/no rest at night because of the constant coming in to do this or that (temp/blood pressure/meds/etc). I was very cranky by the 3rd day and couldn't wait to get out.
On a nice note: quite a few of the nurses and CNAs wrote their names and phone extensions on the white board for me. Instead of calling the nurses station, I could dial directly to either one of them. That was really a NICE touch.
The nurses were wonderful and very responsive especially considering the fact that they were short handed and overworked. My nurse needed to keep running back and forth between me and a head injury patient in the next room. She was overwhelmed and broke down a couple of times. Whatever they get paid, it's not enough.
