Saint Joseph - East (COE) Hospital
The staff - mostly the aids - were very supportive and quite helpful. The nurses were often slow in responding or sent an aid; and no, they were not busy as most seemed to like sitting in the cubical. They liked to give pain medication when none was asked for as well and I had to shoo them away as I did not need it and sure did not want it.
The biggest gripe I have about staff are those in the bariatric clinic. Those people give lip service, but I guarantee you they don't care, and go through the motion for job security. In fact when in one of their "nutrition classes" I provided a form I found on a windows program to track the food consumed and modified it slightly to show people how to track the carbs and protein,etc... The staff person in charge of the class came off with some trash about how the same form could be found on some website. It turned out to be a dating service site -- had nothing to do with food -- and if the person was so knowledgeable why did they already have this form or tell us how to locate it instead of making me feel stupid.
Long on promises of "discussing" things and helping, but really short on delivery. My impression is they were more interested in selling us vitamins, protein powders, and sample packs than really giving caring help. It has the feel of a money mill or simple go-through-the-motions of job security with minimal effort than long range support.
The hospital stay was OK, the room nice, the IV roller/rack was broken and difficult to move and the heart monitor was either set wrong or did not work and I finally took it off. No one noticed the whole time I was in the hospital, but after 24 hours and no sleep due to a machine that beeped the second I fell asleep, I did not care. It would beep for 30 minutes and the only time it was reset was when I called the nurse. Others down the hall rang this long as well. If I could hear them why couldn't they?
It's a great hospital, but it needs staff polish.
Everyone was great, although they were very busy - may have been at capacity. Our room was tiny - especially knowing that larger "suites" exist. But they did they best they could and when I was cleared to go home after one day, I did because I felt I could better rest at home. But the nurses are very knowledgeable and caring. It's a great facility!
I really enjoyed, ok can't say "enjoyed" as I just had surgery! LOL, but for the most part I felt really comfortable here. The only "problem" I had was a few times when I called the nurses station, they didn't respond very quickly, but overall it was a good experience and I wouldn't hesitate to use this hospital again.
