Rose Medical Center Hospital
Everything was mostly excellent. My only complaints were with the first nurse who wasn't very helpful with what I could drink and when, and also with the x-ray dept. They took me to the upper GI area and left me in the hall for a long time before they came and got me for the test. Then the techs kept messing up with the measurements and films, all the while I just wanted to pass out. Then they left me in the hall again for a long time again. I had to finally yell for someone to take me back to my room. Otherwise it was excellent.
The biggest problem that I had with the staff from pre-op to the nursing staff post-op was communication. In most cases they did not communicate necessary information or they did not communicate it correctly. Secondly, if you used the nurse call button it could take 3-5 minutes for someone to answer the button and another 15-30 minutes before anyone came in the room. The first night a gal from PT or she could have been a CNA came into the room to help me get up for my first walk. She was not very gentle and cause me more pain than was necessary. Then when it came to helping me get back into bed she was very forceful and aggresive to the point that she choked me with the oxygen tubing and I had a red mark around my neck until the next morning. She then left the room and did not reconnect me to anything which left my family to try and figure it out.
Because I had an unexpected complication in recovery, I ended up staying in ICU for a while. My care was fantastic until it was blatently apparent that I wasn't going to die. Because my surgery coincided with a blizzard, I was unable to be moved out of ICU because there were no beds available on the usual bariatric floor, which annoyed some of the nursing staff and frustrated me. However, I cannot fault the amazing critical care I received or any other aspect of my surgery and stay because everyone was fantastic to me from check-in to check-out (provided I was staying in the appropriate areas for my health level).
