Rochester General Hospital Hospital
Dr. D is an amazing surgeon, and is changing lives.
I underwent a laprosocopic gastric bypass in march of 2008.
I lost AND HAVE KEPT OFF 175 pounds.
I am of the mind set that one needs to take charge in their own health...
Ask questions, and get answers.
Dr. D knows what he is doing.
He is a no BS type of person, and I appreciate that more than anything!
I have gone to all follow ups.
Most require extensive amounts of blood work.
But they are checking into all possible issues.
If you are the type of person that is TRULY ready to make a life style change, and want the right person on the job to do it, I can not recommend Dr. DiBenedetto enough.
If you want some one to do everything for you, and do not want to put work into it, in ALL HONESTY you are not ready for one of these surgeries.
I am a revision from LapBand to VSG. I had a very successful 3 year stint with the band. It slipped and was removed last Feb '13. I had to fight insurance company for nearly 10 months to get the revision. Dr. D was very supportive and when the time came and I was approved, he arranged to get me in sooner than later.
He is a no nonsense Dr.! Don't look to be coddled or have him be anything but direct and serious about your journey. If you are compliant and want to change your life, he is the man. If you want a cheerleader or friend, nope, not gonna get. He EXPECTS the best out of you, you can expect the same. Now his wife, T, she is the loving and supportive branch of this practice. The "ying" to his "yang". She leads the class right before surgery and makes up for the "mom" part of this business. I am very satisfied and highly recommend the RGH Bariatric program entirely, from the front desk, to the nurses, assistants etc.
Dr. D can come off as a jerk, well he IS a jerk. However, he is an INCREDIBLE doctor, he knows what he's doing and his number one objective is making sure that you come out of your surgery healthy! I am only 4 weeks post-op at this point so our long term relationship is currently unknown, but I would recommend anyone who gets this surgery in Rochester, NY...get it done by Dr. D. I wouldn't have gone anywhere else!!
I had worked with Dr. D for several years. While he is known for his surgical skill (which Ive witnessed from working with him), his follow care is horrible. I had to chase after him and his staff for months and constantly call them to be taken serious. I ended up in the hospital again and NO BLOOD WORK was completed while there. Several different specialists visited me while there....but the problem was simply my B levels. My levels dropped to a dangerous level. So low that Dr. D even admitted he was nervous because the damage it could have caused (B1 level) would have been irreversible! Then he insisted that I have a CT scan. Well....I had it....July 7th 2010. It is now Dec. 9, 2010. Still have NOT heard from him....I even called 2 times to get the results. If you are looking for a good surgeon....Dr. D is definitely that. If you are looking for the whole package...shop elsewhere!!!!!!!!!!!
My Roueny Gastric Bypass Surgeon was Alok Gandhi of Rochester, NY.
Dr. Gandhi present's himself initially as a very serious young man and brilliant. Once you know Dr. Gandhi then he begins to share other sides of his character, which is also quite charming and dear.
He is husband and a relatively new proud daddy.
I could only appreciate Dr. Gandhi more. He is a good man, professional, and doctor. I would without hesitation recommend Dr. Gandhi to be someone else's surgeon.
His program is well established with support on-going from beginning to post care. His office staff are warm and extremely helpful.
Dr. Gandhi covered all preliminary information and my questions thoroughly before my surgery. He worked well with my Primary Physician and kept her in the loop at every turn. Dr. Gandhi assumes nothing and checks and re-checks to offer every patient the best care possible. He works tirelessly and effectively.
I actually had less fear having my bypass with Dr Gandhi than I did with having my knee replacement surgery.
Since Dr. Gandhi is human to be fair I would have to rate him at 99.99%, though to me he is 100% overall.
Dr.Gandhi is very competent and his bedside manner is excellent. You could not lose but only win with Doctor Alok Gandhi as your Gastric Bypass Surgeon.
Sincerely,
Penny Miller
PS: No Dr Gandhi did not pay me to say the above about him. smile...
I knew Dr. Gandhi was my surgeon when he made a joke about selling "leftover intestines" on E-Bey!
He was wonderful pre-op and post-op. I had some problems with pain management and he and the office team were very supportive and thorough with addressing my problems. He listens to what the patient says and doesn't discount any feelings or issues that one might be experiencing.
I highly recommend Dr. Gandhi to anyone thinking about weight loss surgery.
I could write what everyone else wrote about Dr. D and it would all be true. He knows his stuff and there is no doubt once you meet him that he is a no nonsense type of person. He is one word - wonderfull! He is there for you. I went to see him because let's face it I'm fat and I don't want to be that way anymore. I've been this way for almost all my life. I can't lose the weight without intervention at this point and I've made my mind up that it will happen and that's it. You have to be at that point to be able to do this right? Well, Dr. D doesn't pull any punches right from the start. He will more than likely ask you to lose some weight. We ALL know how hard that is. Don't waste his and your time if you aren't commited to weightloss. This isn't an overnight thing and it will be for the rest of your life, but look at it this way, it is your life and with him you will have it! Lose the weight, do what the nutritionist says, get motivated, get excersizing if you can and lose it! Once you get approved by him it's time to get whichever surgery your going to have and start the rest of your life. rnrnAfter my surgery Dr. D went out to my family and told them how I was doing and really conveyed to them that he really cared how I was. I wasn't JUST another patient, I was HIS patient! He wanted to assure them that all was well and it was. During my stay in the hospital I saw him each day (or Maureen his PA) and both were just wonderful. I felt comforted knowing that once the surgery was over that he didn't just know how I was doing via the nursing staff, he cared. One time when he and Maureen came in I must have been flushed a little because we turned the heat up in my room (it was a cold day and it was coming through the window) and he came over like a dad and felt my cheek to see if I had a fever. How sweet is that? He didn't just look at my charts or asked the nurses (who were also wonderful including Lindsay and Taisha) but he came in and saw for himself that I was ok. What more can anyone ask for in a doctor? rnrnThe staff is wonderfull! I had a call in the Monday after I was released from the hospital and they got back to me right away, got me in and problem solved. They are really there for you. They really want you to succeed! rnrnObviously I can't say enough positive things about Dr. D. You really have to experience him yourself to understand.rnHe is one in a million! And so is his staff!
