VERY LOUD (I was in a room across from the nurses station) Some of the nurses DO NOT pay attention to detail in regards to medication and unsanitary conditions. Bring along a strong support person to be your advocate and pay attention to these things for you, also pay extra for a private room if there's an option to do so (I wish I would've checked into it myself).

POH is a beautiful hospital!!! It's very clean and new with many many windows that allows the sun to shine in. I felt very comfortable there and the nurses were wonderful (aside from a few). I felt very taken care of. The nurses were chatty and made me feel better about the whole experience. This hospital was one of the nicest ones I've been in. I would go back there if I had to.

I can't say enough great things about my experience with POH. This medical center is patient focused and the care from the nursing and support staff was incredible. At times, I felt a little guilty about the attention and care from the nurses...it was OVER THE TOP!

It is a teaching hospital, so there were a few extra residents in and out at times, but not to the point it was intrusive. And yes, it's in a transitional urban area but that didn't effect my stay in any way. The facilities, parking, lighting, security are on par with other medical centers, regardless of location.

Dr. Pleatman does so many surgeries here, the staff is very experienced caring for weight loss surgery patients. That came in handy when I had millions of little questions...should I more walking more or less, should I be drinking more or less, why was I nauseated, etc.

Maybe I hit a slow week as far as admissions, but I ended up in a private room that was very quiet, spacious, and adequately furnished. My first post-op shower was a nice surprise as the bathroom had a huge walk-in with lots of hot water (something I don't get even at some of the better hotels in my business travel).

In the end, the doctors, nurses and staff were what made the difference. My husband even commented about the cordial young man that did valet parking. Not that I would enjoy going back to a hospital again, but if I had to, I'd choose to go back to POH.

Bring earplugs and arrange for a family member or advocate to stay with you at all times.

POH was a very good hospital. The staff was very good and very responsive to my needs. The cost, since I was a self pay was very reasonable. I would recommend this hospital to anyone.

I went into POH expecting the worst, because of the other reviews I have read here on OH, and also things patients have told me who haven't yet reviewed this hospital. I was pleasantly surprised by the service I received. The O.R. staff was excellent; I felt very safe knowing they were going to be in the operating room with me. The biggest problem I had was that my surgeon didn't order a morphine pump for me, and so I had to call down to the nurse's station every 2 hours, day and night, to get my morphine shot. But this was my surgeon's fault, not the hospital's. The nurses or PCA's generally took between one minute and 10 minutes to answer my calls, using the speaker system on the bed. Once they got my request, it would take anywhere from 3 to 45 minutes for them to fulfill my request, whatever it was. They made it clear that they were understaffed and things were "crazy," so I understood why it took them so long to help me sometimes. I will say that with only a few exceptions, every employee of that hospital was cheerful & friendly. Even the cleaning lady was a sweetheart! I did have one nurse who was very loud and pushed my pain med into my IV so fast that it hurt me. I asked her to slow down the next several times she did it. She worked a 12 hour shift, and by the time it was coming to an end, she was forgetful and pretty out of it. It's a shame that they work their employees so hard (or at least her), because patients suffer as a result. They served me food that they should not have, given my type of surgery, but I expected this to happen, because others had told me it would. I got lucky, though, because the dietitian happened to come into my room and I discussed this issue with her at length. She thought it was ok to offer VSG patients full liquids (including cream of wheat) if they were feeling ok, I told her it was not ok, that we were supposed to be strictly on clear liquids, and she understood. Overall, my stay at POH was not too bad. I found the floor I was on to be nicely laid out, the rooms were fairly large, and so were the bathrooms. Both were nicely decorated, as well, with pretty tile in the bathroom and wood floors in the rooms. I would go to POH again.

My doctor was a awesome doctor and did a great job but the post op recovery time in my room was terrible. i felt none of the nurses knew what the hell they were doing and it was VERY UNSANITARY. the nurses were very loud and made lots of noise at night so i was unable to sleep. i had to beg them to clean the bathroom which was covered in blood from the roommate next to me. i was to only have CLEAR LIQUIDS the day after surgery and they brought me cream of wheat. i had to always ask for my pain meds and was treated completely TERRIBLE. i DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL TO ANYONE!!!!!!

The staff in OR were great. While on the floor I received better care from the nurse aids than I did the nurses, and I'm a nurse. The staff acted like they had never heard of this surgery before, when I would tell them why I was there they would have this blank look on their face. So I would tell them about VSG. They were slow to respond to request for pain med. My breakfast tray that was to be delivered on my first post-op day arrived at 10:30 after repeated request by my family. I wanted to drink so I could be discharged since this is a prerequisite. They do not room patients as they should, my first roomate had mental problems and thankfully signed out AMA. So after she left they decided I was getting another roomate and preceded to clean the room at 2:00 am. They never arrived. The next am they put a Pneumonia patient in the room with me. As you know that is a no-no, you never put anything like that in with a fresh surgery patient. A nurse aid NOT NURSE caught the mistake and told the nurses. They moved that patient. At that time I did not care because I was getting out of there. I do not want to scare anyone away from having there VSG, just be sure to take a very outspoken family member or friend with you. With all I have said I am still happy with my surgery and would do it all over again.

Horrible experience. My assigned room mate was very loud, had drunk/drugged visitors who overflowed onto my side and blocked me from ambulating to the bathroom. In the middle of the night when I walked to the bathroom, I found another patient's bloody drainage all over the toilet seat and had to go to the nurse's station to request them to clean it up so I could use it. Gross!!! I wouldn't let my dog recover in an environment as disgusting as that one.

I was pleased, everyone was helpful and friendly. I had timely service, regular visits from nurses, doctors and PCA's. Very happy with the hospital.
