Palms of Pasadena Hospital (COE) Hospital
Hospital was good and bad, pre op was great proper sized gowns, nice accomadating nurses, once I got to icu(surgeon automatically puts you there after surgery for close monitoring) that's when it got bad, they changed me from surgery since I had blood on my gown and the put me in too small a gown(found out next day when I went to get up(then they told me they don't have big enought gowns and I had to advise them yes you do I was in one earlier, nurses were more attentive in icu but once I got to regular rooms it got worse, I would hit my nurse button for pain meds(always at past my 4 hr window they gave me, normally about 6-7 hrs) and it would take them 45 mins my nurse advised me they had a very demanding patient and that she paged every 5 minutes, it's like I got punished for always being nice, the nurses wake you up during the night for blood sugar vitals etc but they were always quiet and I could fall asleep easy but some workers would come barreling down the hallway making as much noise as they could and wake me and my mom up every time. Overall it's ok, but I had to fight for proper sized equipment, proper care, and sleep is impossible.
Other than a little dated it was a great place to have my surgery. Sue and the rest of the staff were awesome. The only problems I encountered were a long wait at check in and them not being able to find a fully functioning wheelchair when it was time to leave, I ended up having to walk from my room upstairs to the front door.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Jessee 7 years ago. This was a visit for post opp problems for a full blown RNY Gastric Bypass. She was not the surgeon that did the Bypass surgery, I went to her as my Dr. who did the Bypass had retired. I developed an incisional hernia and a couple of other minor ailment. Remember people every surgery especial the full Gastric Bypass RNY I had, will come with problems.
Dr. Jessee was very very compassionate and even consulted her partner at the time to come up with a good plan for me. Her staff was great and so was the hospital. Dr. Jessee fixed the Hernia and told me it was because the mesh that was use to cover the wound under the skin had balled up. She also took care of my other ailments.
If you can handle it get the full RNY Gastric Bypass as I believe the Lap Band is not effective for morbidly obese people as I was. I have seen and heard many people initially losing weight but then nothing and gain the weight back as they are dismayed with their own results (Lap Band). At the time I had the RNY Gastric Bypass the figures were 60 to 80% weight loss initially finally get to the 50 to 60% range when the bypass had matured, that was back in 2000. At that time they were saying the Lap Band resulted in about a 30 to 40% of weight loss and then settling out to 30% or below.
Today the RNY Gastric Bypass still has the same % but the Lap band being less evasive has come down to around 20% or no weight-loss and even some people gaining after the initial weight loss (it happens with the RNY too but not as often).
I am lucky but it has taken 10 years and a lot of fortitude as I have finally lost more than a 100% of my fat. I did " yo yo" for a few years but finally I went from 498lbs to today 195-200lbs. Now my problem is I have to force myself to eat HEALTHY FOOD (more calories) as I do not want to loose any more weight. The trick is to eat enough calories during the day without expanding your stomach. I find that if I eat fresh, good, non process food I feel great. If my stomach realizes I am eating garbage like fast food stuff, I dump within a few minutes and feel like dodo. So good restaurants or good food you make at home can carry garbage calories in it even-though it is supposedly called fresh (HIDDEN SUGARS WILL MAKE YOU DUMP) so be careful.
One more thing you have to give up SODA. I have not had one since 2000 or anything with bubbles as the gas will expand you stomach. My son was becoming overweight and I just suggested to him if he would cut out the soda and chips he would loose weight, it happened without effort. Within two months he lost 35lbs and is a very happy guy. So what I'm saying if you have the right mind set AND CUT OUT FAST FOOD AND SUGAR the weight will come off. There is no overnight cure, it takes years to undo the obesity, but it can be done.
The main reason I am writing this review is; The Doctors like Jessee gives you the tools to lose the weight but you have to do the rest. There are a lot of negative post on the internet about Gastric Bypass Surgeons. The posters complain that it is the Doctors fault they lost no weight or if you have post operative problems, (the comment that angered me the most is that) the posters (failures) will post that the Doctor is a butcher. NONE OF THESE NEGATIVE POSTS ARE DR. JESSEES'. She is a great Doctor and Surgeon. If you need any weight loss help go to Dr. Jessee. She will put you in the right direction. There are no magic pills, not yet anyway.

From the admitting clerk to the walk out, the staff at this hospital was one of the most friendly and helpful staff I have ever had to work with. Very accommodating even getting a hospital bed so my husband could spend the night with me. I could not be more happy with my experience here and it was great to be told how positive I was about everything I was going through and doing. That I was one of the most positive and friendly patients some of them have worked with in a long time. Made me feel really good. I want to make this whole process positive and thing I am doing pretty well at succeeding with it so far. I highly recommend Dr. R and the Hospital at Palms of Pasadena!
