Ohio State University Medical Center Hospital
Wonderful provider. He has the confidence that goes with performing thousands of these procedures in a department known worldwide for it's bariatric programs. If you want close hand holding care this facility is probably not for you. The patient is largely responsible for all steps leading to the OR and while the steps are clearly spelled out not being in the medical field often times I found my self having to ask a second or third time for information. I was extremely well-educatated by the staff and doctors on what to expect and when to expect it. Personally, I had some complicating matters and all participants in the surgery were obviously well briefed on those complications and had a plan in place to deal with any issues. None arose. He is a very busy doctor at a large and busy program (The Ohio State University). The lines of communication are easy to open and his nurse will call back in less than 24 hours of leaving a message.

The hospital was fabulous. The nurses were all familiar with bariatric patients and they try to keep RNY patients in private rooms if possible. They were very accomodating, I got a migraine after I was weaned off the morphine drip, they immediately called the surgeon and got clearance to give me my migraine meds and they let my mother stay the night in my room. The room even had a pull out couch for visitors!
I adore Dr. Needleman. He is compassionate and non-judgemental. He always makes me feel comfortable and respected. His staff are equally as kind and thoughtful. Suzy is always upbeat and cheerful, and I appreciate her willingness to listen to anything and everything I have to say. Dr. Needleman's entire team is committed to quality patient care. I would recommend them to anyone interested in weight loss surgery.
I actually didn't meet Dr. Needleman until about a week before my surgery. (this was after going through the 6 month pre-op weight loss program and receiving my insurance approval, a total of 9 months). I was impressed with Dr. Needleman and very satisfied with my surgery experience and post surgical care. I saw Dr. Needleman for my post op care initially (he did my first 2 fille). Since then I have seen the NP for my fills and follow-up. After the initial 6 mos post op there was not any structured aftercare program, I would highly recommend Dr. Needleman and the OSU Bariatric Surgery team.
Dr. Needleman is outstanding. He has a great bedside manner. He took time with me and answered all my questions. I felt very comfortable with him caring for me. He's done a lot of bypasses and bands. OSU is a center of excellence. OSU requires an admission packet to the program, a screening exam, psych exam, and various clearances depending on your health. They also required some weight loss. I attended a 6 month nutrition, exercise, and counseling program. I was in the hospital for 4 days. I was very happy with my room, stay and the staff at OSU. He wrote me for 6 weeks off and I needed that due to the pain and recovery. I was seen at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 6 months and will be seen at a year. They see you yearly forever after that. I would recommend OSU, Dr. Needleman, and gastric bypass surgery to anyone in need of it. It was one of the best decisions I've made. I feel great! I've had no complications.
