Wow is he ever tall!! He is very laid back, easy to talk to, supportive, gives tons of information in both verbal and written form about the diet afterwards, all the risk factors, plus's and minus's about this type of surgery. Has a good support group set up of office staff, dieticians who go over the diet with you before the surgery and have taste testers to try, bi-weekly support meetings held at Methodist Hospital for pre and post ops where everyone can share thier feelings- concerns- successes- learn about pouch care, etc. The hospital where he practices (Arcadia Methodist) has a floor where most all the post op GBS pts go, so the nurses are familiar with the needs of this type of patient.
On a scale of 1-10 I would rate Dr Lamar and his team at a level 8. He is good at both bedside manner and competency which is RARE for a surgeon!

They are more than equipped to handle our needs (as well as overall general care) and would not hesitate to use this hospital in the future (if the need arises, and hopefully it won't).

This hospital is exceptionally clean, the staff very friendly and helpful. Other hospitals should take note and follow suit.

When I first saw him, I thought he was standing on a podium. Boy, was I wrong. That man is very tall, well over 6 feet. I told my wife that I was glad he was tall, because his hands can reach around my BIG stomach. I thought Dr. LaMar was very friendly and enthusiastic. He introduced himself to me and shook my hand. So far I see him as the most personable.

I enjoyed my short stay in Methodist Hospital (a.k.a. Arcadia Methodist). My night nurse (Marco) and his nursing assistant (Angela) were the very best at taking care of my needs. I found out that not all of the nurses on the surgical floor were able to take care of bariatric patients - only the ones who had been specially trained. That made me feel better.

Sleep is hard to come by in any hospital and I found that this hospital was no different in that respect. I sleep better at home anyway.

There were no toiletries readily available due to massive healthcare cuts (tissues, soap, etc.), but if you ask for them, they will accomodate you. I think it's better to just pack what you need ahead of time, knowing that hospitals have been caught in the middle of budget cuts for a long time and will continue to be short on money when you are admitted.

Overall, this hospital was very well educated in - and prepared for - bariatric patient's needs. I highly recommend this hospital for bariatric patient services and procedures.

The staff was so great my nurse was Rosa and she was excellent and was very familiar with post op care of WLS patients. She asked that I send a photo in after a year to put in the scrap book

I had the best experience at Arcadia Methodist. They have the friendliest staff, the cleanest facility and the best overall care I've ever experienced. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a local hospital. The staff was always helpful, friendly and very accomodating. I had a different nurse and nurse's assistant every 12 hours, and it seemed that each set was even more wonderful the previous set (if that was possible). I'm thrilled to have had my surgery there and would look to them again if the need ever arose.

I first heard of Dr LaMar from some of his patients. Everyone I met only had good things to say about him. The first time I saw him was at the symposium. He didn't speak much but seemed nice. When I had my consultation I had a chance to talk to him. He was very knowledgable and supportive. He let me know that he thought I was a good candidate and answered all of my questions. I can't say that there was anything I didn't like about him, (he was running late but I work in the medical field and know that emergencies come up and can't be helped.)
His office staff were also kind and helpful, Nicole the coordinator was great and she has a very hectic job! After care is important with this group, they encourage you to go to the support groups and continue with follow-up care. I was also encouraged to call te office day or night after surgery, if I had any questions or problems. Dr LaMar explained all the possible complications and also stressed that I may need an open procedure if there were a lot of adhesions (scarring) from my previous open gallbladder surgery. I would rate Dr. LaMar a 9 ( haven't met a 10 yet ;) ). For me, surgical competene is the most important thing but Dr LaMar had a good bedside manner too!
