I have just started my journey with surgical weight loss, I am going to be electing to have the sleeve. I have only had my first consultation with Dr Ku, but, I will say he was so kind, down to earth, and truly wanted to know who I was at a person- not just another stomach to fix.
He was very honest, and answered all my questions in terms I could understand. He is very encouraging.
I have emailed him via the online health portal with questions, and he is very fast to respond. Everyone in the office is very kind and knowledgeable. A lot of them have had some kind of surgery themselves as well, so they know what the challenges are.
I would certainly recommend him to anyone interesting in thinking about surgery. Will review again after surgery.

My first appointment was in August, 2014. I was impressed by his professionalism and demeanor. He spent at least 1/2 hour with myself and my husband discussing the different procedures and the related risks and benefits. He also conducted a health history and told me what tests I needed based on my history. I appreciated this approach as I do not believe in "one size fits all." After the initial visit I saw the dietitian and exercise physiologists which were a great help. I saw Dr. Ku again in November for the pre-op history and physical and he went over all the risks and benefits of the surgery and answered my questions. The next week was my surgery. Dr. Ku did an excellent job. I have been healing well and have avoided some of the discomfort that others get as Dr. Ku gives IV nausea medicine around the clock right after surgery and aggressively hydrates so his patients don't get dehydrated. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking bariatric surgery.

Dr Ku is an amazing surgeon. I had been having problems with my old 4cc lap band for quite awhile. My orginal bariatric surgeon, Dr. Amir Moazzez never addressed my issues of why my band no longer worked properly, so I had to search for a new surgeon. I consulted with many surgeons in the metro Washington, DC area and none could give me a clear answer, so after several tests, Upper GI's, and endsocopy revealed that I had a hernia.

Instead of helping me, and doing an exploratory surgery and repair my hiatal hernia that was causing these issues, the surgeons that I was seeing told me that I needed to have my band removed and revised to the Sleeve or just remove the band to relieve the issues I was having.

I was desperate to have the constant back burning/chest pains and shortness of breath issues resolved and I could not find a surgeon to address my issues they were just concered about removing my band and revising me to the Sleeve.

A wonderful poster "Susans_Journey" from the Obesity Help lap band board suggested that I travel out to Pennslyvania to see Dr James Ku to get a final opinion on whether to keep my band, revise or remove it.

I met with Dr Ku on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 and he took a look at my tests results of my Upper GI and endsocopy and told me that he could help me. He immediately scheduled me for surgery for the following week on November 13th, I was amazed by his bedside manner and listening to me as a patient and telling me the facts and letting me decide on the next steps I should do regarding removing me band or a revision surgery.

My husband drove me 2 hours to Lancaster, PA for my surgery on November 13th and I met with Dr Ku again before surgery and he told me that there was a risk that he may not be able to save my old band, but he would be able to relieve me of my pain and suffering of GERD, and burning that I'd been suffering with over the last 2 months.

My surgery went great and Dr Ku ended up repairing a very large hiatal hernia, removing my old band and replacing a new band all in one surgery, many other surgeons could not do this. Not only did my pain stop after my revision surgery, he was able to give me a new lease on life with a brand new lap band. I am now healing great with no complications and all the back pain, shortness of breath and burning is gone. In fact I never had to get on a PPi after my revision surgery.

I am very impressed with Dr Ku's skills and bedside manner, he is an outstanding surgeon with impeccible skills. No other surgeon could help me, Dr Ku came through for me and saved me from constant pain and a brand new band.

Dr Ku stands out from the rest of the lap band surgeons that I've dealt with previously and I would highly recommend him to anyone that wants a lap band or any other bariatric procedure and a great journey.

The nursing staff is phenomenal. They were concerned, caring, and always ready to go the distance. I had severe complications due to my wls and was eventually sent to another hospital. The 2nd hospital couldn't get over how high the level of care I was given at Lancaster, especially in the skin care area. (I was bedridden for 5 months at that point.
