Kaiser Fremont Medical Center Hospital

Dr. Dutta is not an outgoing personality and his bedside manner is somewhat lacking, but he is a very skilled surgeon and did a fabulous job with my procedure. He is very knowledgeable about all aspects of the surgery and possible outcomes and side effects.
The office staff gives the appearance of being overworked and understaffed and it is not a welcoming place to visit. I realize that they are dealing with around 1,500 patients who are all somewhere in the lengthy approval process that Kaiser delivers. However, the staff that provide the educational components of the program are wonderful and very helpful.
While I found the 21 month approval process to be frustrating, I was well prepared and well educated about the outcomes. I have had no complications so far (knock on wood) and have had a great recovery. I would recommend both the procedure and this facility to any patient considering RNY bypass.

Dr. Chu is very sweet and down to earth. She really put me at ease. And her age has nothing to do with her professionalism. I think she kinda scared my mom with her age at first but now my mom just totally loves her! I am very confident in her ability to do my surgery. After all, she had just done my friends a few days before and she is fine!!

I first met Dr. Dennen when I went to my orientation meeting at Kaiser Fremont. He seemed very knowledgeable about the surgery and what complications may occur. As time went on with each visit I liked him even more. He has a wonderful sense of hummor which is a relief. Made me feel extremely comfortable with him. I only have wonderful things to say about Dr. Dennen as a surgeon and would recomend him highly 10++++. In my opinion the only complaint would be about the after care program through Kaiser and not Dr. Dennen personally. I have found out that since the program is growing so fast it does seem like they are real behind in doing the post op appointments. The lady that had surgery the same day as myself hasn't even received her 6 week post op appointment and it has been like 11 weeks so far. I am due for my 3 month post op appt on the 28th of feb and they still havent called to set it up yet. So, I just hope in time they will improve this area with the addition of more help in the Bariatric Department. There are so many people like myself who need this surgery for health reasons and I would hate to see them have to wait any longer then neccessary. Dr. Dennen I can't thank you enough for helping change my life. Your Awesome!!!

Dr. Dutta was great. He was honest, direct, and encouraging. I had to move when I was only 4 months post-op so I missed the opportunity to get to know him even better. From what I know I would give him an A+++

I had my laproscopic RNY on Sept. 13 2005 and Dr. Hahn was fantastic!! He was incredibly attentive during my 3 days at Kaiser Fremont Hospital, visiting me 2 or 3 times a day. This was my first experience with any kind of surgery or hospital stay and Dr. Hahn and all the wonderful nurses at Fremont Kaiser made it as comfortable and enjoyable as they could. I am now nearly 6 months post-op, having lost 65 lbs. and have had no complications.

First impression: He was a little cold but was to the point on all the things that I need to do also every thing that I would need when I get home from the hospital.
Office staff was very helpful.
He covered every thing very well and made sure that I understood everything and all the risks of surgery.
When the day came for surgery when he came to see me before he was very nice and careing to make sure that I was at ease. Yes he has a structured aftercare program and he sends it home with you.
Overall I would rate him a 9.9
surgical competence and bedside manner are both great.

Dr. Dennen is so wonderful. I had heard from many of his former patients that he was such a sweetheart, but they didn't do him justice. When I went for my consult with him, he was so patient, calm, and even funny. He even drew pictures to help my husband get a clearer understanding of the proceedure.
The only thing I didn't appreciate was how he proceeded to tell me how much he eats, and how unhealthy it is. "Well, thanks a lot Doc", were my only sentiments, since he stood before me at 180lbs sopping wet. But otherwise, he was great. Due to his caring bedside manner, any worries and fears that I may have had, have been dissipated.

I wanted to wait until after I had my surgery to tell you what I thought of Dr. Dennen. My over-all impression of Dr. Dennen is that he is MARVELOUS! I discovered about 4 months into my WLS process that he is the head of Bariatric Surgery in Fremont. I am completely impressed by that fact, only because I now understand WHY he holds such a position. He is a very competent surgeon. He explains every aspect and detail of this surgery himself! He doesn't expect his staff to do this. He explained the risks as well as the lifetime commitment. To balance his keen surgical competence, I have to add that he is kind, nurturing and has a wonderful sense of humor. I am so blessed to have had Dr. Dennen as my surgeon and I would recommend him with absolutely NO reservations.

I first met Dr. Dennen at my consult appointment and liked him immediately. He was warm, personable, and approachable. He seemed very competent and knowledgable about wls. He talked candidly with me about my body type, what type of surgery he felt would be best and took the time to answer my questions. He never made me feel like I asked anything foolish.
These same thoughts were affirmed when I met him again at my pre-op appointment. I felt he was genuinely interested in me and took the time to explain every detail of the surgery experience to me. I felt very confident and quite calmed by him.
He was very attentive during my hospital stay, checking in on me daily.
I am extremely pleased by Dr. Dennen and his entire staff and the Kaiser Fremont nurses and facility.
