Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Hospital
Although I wont meet him till the day before surgery, we have spoke on the phone, and he answers all email within 24 hrs..post script: I didnt travel from Houston to make a new friend...I wanted the best surgeon possible and I had him. Dr.S is a great surgeon and although he is straightforward and no nonsense when it comes to surgery, he does have a sense of humor.
I met with Dr. Schweitzer Nov 28th 2005 and he agreed to do my surgery. It will have to be done open RNY but I will have to complete my 6 month diet first. My first impression was good. He is down to earth and even laughed at me when I said silly stuff. I am really comfortable with him as my surgeon and look forward to being in his care.
The staff could not have been nicer. Every single one of them. They are understaffed as is every other hospital and that causes requests to be delayed at times, but not the urgent ones. The hospital was very clean and the staff caring. My only advice is if you can possibly afford one, get a private room. It may not even be an option because this hospital is in such demand that it remains full constantly. Great stay, great experience!
I wasnt impressed at all. From Tue to Fri I never saw housekeeping. Room was not cleaned. My bed linen wasnt changed nor was I offered assistance to bathe or change gowns! I will say that the nurses were very responsive to my needs directly relating to the surgery..pain, drain care etc.....and they were great cheerleaders when I walked
Dr. Schweitzer is wonderful. He is to the point, but he does have a great sense of humor. The man is SUPER busy, but this is because of his skill. The doctors office staff is great, helpful, and caring. Pat Jordan, nurse practitioner, is also wonderful. I see her for my fills and it is always nice to talk to her. It's such a friendly visit. Overall, DR. Schweitzer and his staff get an A++++++++++
