The Seminar of Great Lakes Weight Loss Center was great. I was hoping to have Laker there, but ended up with Webber. Weiner is Laker's cousin. Anyways, I did have consultation with Laker (who was referred to me by my own doctor Cooper, and my GYN Salsen in West Bloomfield).
My feeling on his professional behavior put me at ease, the staff was wonderful.
I had my RnY Lap Gastric Bypass on 3/16/10 at Harper Hospital. I go today for my first post op check up to have the drainage tube removed.
I am 50 yrs old, I was 358.6 lbs going into surgery. I ended up with 6 small incisions, and the drainage tube to watch how things were healing. I was released on the 18th after instructions and seeing Marty the dietician/nutritionist. I am writing my journey on facebook under Jean How (D. Jean How) if you want to follow along. But Dr Scott Laker was in my own feelings, the best choice I ever had in bariatric surgeon. Always follow through from other doctors that work with you to see what their impression is on the work and professional ethics of another. I would highly recommend this doctor if you are considering bariatric surgery.

My first impression of Dr. laker was he looked like he was a funny and interesting character, he gave me eye contact and was very alert, since i havent ahd the surgery yet i only met him once so i will keep you posted, his office staff was wonderful one of the nurses had the surgery as well and she looked fantastic, they all were very humble and easy-going willing to answer my questions and wasn't in a rush, i have to say it was nothing that i liked least everything went well, and for me that great because I'm a very picky person, The dr, address the risk of surgery and complications i asked him question from my notebook like, has any pts ever died in the process or after surgery, what was the most complications patients had after surgey etc.rnhe had no death during or after surgery, Once i have the surgery and meet him again i will let you guys no more about hom and keep you posted.

Dr. Laker is great. I had Bariatric surgery on April 3, 2007. Two years later, I've developed a Gastro-Gatric Fistula, a complication that happens in very few patients. To sum it up, I'll be requiring a total revision surgery. Dr. Laker has really put me at ease with his experience and his willingness to take on a case with which has very little familiarity. I owe him a lot. He's friendly, warm, and he puts me at ease about having another surgery. He doesn't mess around, and he lets you know that this surgery has risks. He's got a fantastic bedside manner, and I'd highly recommend him.

1st impression of Dr. Laker was that he is very concerned and willing to answer any and all questions. He was completely upfront about all risks. He was able to ease of all my husbands fears. Office staff is knowledgeable. rnrnI rate Dr. Laker at a 10; his surigical competence and bedside manner were all on point!

Dr. Laker has been very helpful in helping me decide which surgery will be best for me. Although I had to do all the 'legwork' to get the approval from BCN, I'm looking forward to moving on with the surgery, and my new life! rnHe's a very nice man with a great bed-side manner! Friendly, and answers all questions. I just can never think of any!rnrnwww.greatlakesweightloss.comrn

Dr. Laker was a very understanding doctor. He is however very busy. His staff was very nice. He was very down to earth and answered all the questions I asked. His office is at a large hospital, so its not the easiest place to visit but they made you feel very comfortable so it was worth the inconvenience.rnrnI am a three hour drive away so there is not a ton of aftercare. In fact my first appt with him is not until six weeks. However I was assured that he or his staff would be quick to answer any questions and that I could come back sooner if I needed.rnrnHe has great credentials, even teaches other surgeons to perform lap band in Harper hospital. He has studied and worked with one of the leading bariatric surgeons in the world. rnrnHe had a nice bedside manner and also had three other resident surgeons that you could talk to while you were in the hospital I felt this was great because there was three people instead of one listening to what I had to say. I felt this was very safe and reassuring.rnrnI am still on my journey with him but I will keep you posted if anything changes

Dr. Laker was very informative when I attended the Harper University Hospital seminar on bariatric surgery.rnrnI did a lot of research on the web and reviewed a lot of patient testimonials. I was impressed with Dr. Laker and his current research studies on diabetes and bariatric surgery.rnrnI was diagnosed about a year ago with diabetes and am terrified of it. I cannot wait to have the surgery and rid my body of this disease.rnrnI have had a lot of guidance from his staff. I would like to say that they have been very patient with me. I have had some confusion over referrals from my PCP and wish they would have been more informative on what was expected from me to obtain. The confusion was stressful and my PCP relationship which was already strained became even more difficult.rnrnI will update when I am further along in this process

Dr Laker is one of the nicest physcians I have every met. He spent all the time I needed in the clinic to make me feel comfortable with my surgery choice. He is personal, kind and an all around GREAT GUY. He has a very structured program at Harper Hospital that makes sure the patient is always involved in their care. I would tell anyone interested in Bypass Surgery to go see Dr Laker at his clinic.
