Henry Ford Hospital (COE) Hospital
From the beginning I liked Dr. Carlin. He didn't sugar coat anything (no pun intended)He told me exactly how it was going to be, but he never talked down to me, like I was some kind of idiot. I am an educated woman in a professional industry and he never made me feel less than important. Even when talking to the staff and floor nurses, he called them by name and took time to talk with each on a personal level.
His program is very structured and addressed every question with an emphasis this being only a tool in which to reach a goal.
I would recommend anyone to Dr. Carlin based on both his sugical competence and bedside manner. Both are equally important to me.
HE WAS VERY NICE VERY CASUAL AND LAYED BACK.
I TRUSTED HIM RIGHT FROM THE START.
VERY NICE TO TALK TO AND VERY UNDERSTANDING.
NOTHING
HE REALLY KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. I FELT LIKE I WAS TALKING TO A VERY CAPABLE PERSON. I COULD TALK TO HIM ABOUT ANYTHING. AND I DID HAVE A LIST TO GO THROUGH. HE ANSWERED ALL OF MY QUESTIONS.
HE EMPHASIZED BEFORE AND AFTER CARE. HE HAS A VERY STRUCTURED PROGRAM. I FEEL LIKE IT ISN'T JUST HAVING THE SURGERY AND SAYING GOOD BYE TO THE PROGRAM. THEREEE IS A LOT OF SUPPORT THERE.
HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE RISKS AND TO DO EVERYTHING THAT HE RECOMENDED SO IT WOULD CUT DOWN ON RISK.
I WOULD RATE HIM AS JUST BEING THE BEST. I'M SO THANKFUL THAT HE DID THE SURGERY.
BOTH ARE WONDERFUL. WHEN YOU HAVE ANAPPT. WITH HIM HE NEVER MAKES ME FEEL LIKE HE'S IN A HURRY. HE TAKES HIS TIME AND ALWAYS ANSWERS ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS A TAKES CARE OF ANYTHING THAT YOU MIGHT NEED.
I was hesitant to go to Henry Ford for my surgery and to have Dr. Carlin perform it since I work at Beaumont Hospital. But the moment I met him, I knew everything would be okay and that he was a wonderful doctor and person. I was immediately at ease. He took his time and answered all my questions. I did not feel rushed in any way. Wanda and staff are very understanding and helpful. I had to switch insurance to get approved and they were helpful every bit of the way. Aftercare is VERY IMPORTANT. The surgery helps you become thin and healthy, but ultimately it will come down to you and your commitment. If you dont follow the rules, you could end up at square one after the surgery saying, "That surgery doesn't work"! That's because you didn't do what your supposed to. If you follow all the advice, you will have a positive outcome. They help you every step of the way, including the 4 hour nutritional and informational class to be completely sure that you and a support person understand everything. So far they get an excellent rating!
My first impression was not good of Dr G. He had just cancelled 2 surgeries because they had gained weight. He was quite upset.
He has learned how to smile, but I find it difficult to be my usual fun-loving self with him. I work in hospitals and have always known a surgeon for years, and his background, before I'd let him operate.
The nurses are wonderful in the office--the medical assisstants have an attitude.
Dr Genaw places emphasis on structured care both before and after surgery--he gives you a goal to meet with both exercise and weight.
He explains the surgery well, including the risks.
I think we will make a wonderful health care team--my health, his care for now!
Nice guy..I'd definitely recommend him and everyone else at Henry Ford Hospital. Dr. Genaw has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor (just like me)!!
Dr Genaw,
I was a bit intimidated by him at first. He's cocky but than again most surgeons are.
Not usafe cocky just to make this clear.
He has a great sense of humour.
HE takes time to call you if there are any changes in blood work and also answers emails promptly. He will tell it like it is no bologna(hhhhmmmm bologna)
There isn't anything that I didn't like about him. He even has a great bedside manner.
The team that works with him, the ones I know of. Wanda, Annette, Dennis and
Dr Carlin are all very nice and always there to answer any of your questions. With aftercare if you follow the program you won't have any problems. Yes you could have stoma problems and complications but that has nothing to do with him. Its your body and its reaction. The program is very structured and easy to follow. It is all provided to you in a binder. But if you eat a cookie and dump they aren't going to feel sorry for you, to be honest neither will I..............LOL
I'm not going to rate him but I will tell you that I have never had surgery before in my life, and he made me feel safe and well cared for. Even the nurses that care for you after on the Bariatrics unit make you feel very safe nad almost loved really.
The last question surgical competence and bedside manner, both are outstanding.
I don't think that just because you have an all positive experience with your surgeon it should be suspect. This is all based on my perception of Dr Genaw. To each hi/her own. Just becasue I think he's great doesn't mean you will.
