The George Washington University Hospital Hospital
First of all Dr. Lin is Wonderful. I trust him with my life and I am so grateful to him. The man is brillant! The staff at GWUY was so nice to me. The rooms were clean and they supplied everything I needed. The only thing I did not like was the ventilation system. The room would get real hot and then turn cold. It was terrible.
The rooms were extremly clean and the staff did an excellent job of keeping it that way. Evertime I would get up to sit in a chair, someone would come in and change bed linens. The bathroom was huge! The room had plenty of chairs for visitors and even arranged for a bed to be in my room for my husband to stay the night. The staff all were very nice, patient, and helpful. I give GW a 10!
Staff were not willing to assist me with bathing. Nurses would try to give my insulin HOURS after doing accu check and they were giving SQ Heparin IM. The nurses would ignore the call bell for ...HOURS...I kid you not...and they would not bring my pain medication on time. A resident doctor also made my stay very unpleasant when I was there for nausea and vomiting he insisted I take Phenergan round the clock in order to get out sooner. It was an awful hospital experience.
I stayed at GWU Hospital for 3 days after my surgery, and it was better than I expected. First, they have an entire unit just for Dr. Afram's WLS patients. The nurses on the unit were sweet, repsonsive, and sensitive. I was also given my own room, which I never expected. I thought that was great, because I was able to have total privacy whenever I wanted. I thought the surgical center staff was very senstive and caring, and answered every question I had, and allowed me to feel very comfortable even though I was quite nervous, both in the pre-op room and even when I was wheeled into the operating room-they all made me feel comfortable, so I "went to sleep" with the feeling that I would be very well taken care of. The recovery room staff was attentive and friendly. Overall, I would feel very comfortable going back to GW if I ever had to have any other kind of surgery.
I gave this hospital such poor ratings NOT because of surgery I had myself, but for my mother's surgery. She was of course heavily medicated and thus not fully aware of what was or was NOT going on. I had to ASK them to do basic things such as assist my mother with bathing ( I did this MYSELF), assist her with getting to the bathroom (had to do this too), giving her water/ice, I could go on and on.
