Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center Hospital
Dr. You is an AMAZING doctor and person. I honestly couldn't say one bad thing about him. From our very first meeting at the info session I immediately felt comfortable with him. As did my family. I absolutely HATE doctors normally. I would avoid them at all costs. But, with Dr. You I feel like i'm just going to see a friend to check on my progress. He's laid back and friendly and for the first time in my life I don't feel like the doctor is ONLY there for the money. I couldn't of picked a better surgeon or team to handle my surgery. I am very thankful for Dr. You and his wonderful team for helping guide me in my journey to a healthier & happier life. :) I am also a frequent attendee of their support group meetings. They are AMAZING. Granted I'm pretty partial since I've only attended theirs. But, the content is forever changing to help inform and empower their patients.
Dr You and Ginny at the Bariatric Institute at Franklin Square not only care for you they care about you. I had my surgery VSG 4/5/2010 I have never felt like a patient I've felt like a friend. I not only feel cared for but I also don't want to let them down, the pressure can be a bit much (especially when you know you gained and you know what you did) but when you think about it they are pressuring you to care for yourself. Caring for yourself leads to better self worth.
Was brought to this hospital because it is closest to my home and I was having severe complications from my pneumonia that I acquired during surgery. The ER nurse was wonderful but the goodness stopped there for the most part. I was 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery and one of the ER nurses brought me a plate of food, solid food, chicken, green beans, potatoes and a regular soda. I told her that I couldn't have that because of my soda and she was stunned. I had to basically teach here what I had learned from my surgeon and his office about bariatric surgery. I was finally sent to a room and the nurses were really great. I was not thrilled to be in a semi private room with an elderly woman who was incontinent. The nurses assistants took extremely long to get to the room to change this other patient when in need and I suffered because of it. I notified the nurses station by pushing the call button about this and still it took over an hour for someone to come. At one time I started having chills, and nausea and felt like I was running a fever, I notified the nurses station by again pushing my call button and the nurse this time never came. When I saw him 2 hours later I explained to him what I had experienced, by this time it has passed, and he asked me why I didn't call for him. I told him that I did and the desk said they would let him know and he said he was never notified, but that was the end of it, I never heard another thing. I would not recommend this hospital for anyone who has had bariatric surgery, the nurses are not skilled in bariatric patients, the diet, or anything post op for that matter.
My overall experience with the staff and with the hospital overall were great. Staff was very responsive with the exception of a single nurse. The night shift nurse was excellent. I would and did kiss her 3 months later when I ran into her at a local dept. store. I am a RN by profession, and her attitude and behaviour renewed my faith in my chosen profession.
