Baptist Health Medical Center - Little Rock Hospital
Facilities, doctors and specialists are the best in the state. But the nursing staff is short handed, overworked and generally ill-prepared for bariatrics patients.
Without my wife there to hound the staff, I doubt I would have received the proper medication and treatments. My surgeon also showed open irritation with some of the disorganization.
Be sure you have a smart and assertive friend or family member to stay with you if you have your surgery here.
My only problem was getting out of the recovery room and into a room. They told me my room was not ready, then they said it had not been vacated yet. Finally after 4 hours they assigned my to another room. I was put in a private room which I had not expected, so that was nice.
Also It was about 2 hours before they let my husband into the recovery room, and only let him stay a few minutes.
Pre-op, Surgery, Recovery Staff - WONDERFUL people and good experience. I was treated well and was very happy with the "service." The less than wonderful experience started when it took 9 1/2 hours to get me a room so I could be moved from recovery. Because the hospital was full, I did not get the requested private room, nor was I put into a room on the floor where they put bariatric patients. The nurses on my floor were not able to answer questions that I had about some of the pain I was feeling, one nurse was incredibly rude, they took FOREVER to do anything I asked. My mother stayed overnight with me and sat upright in a hard chair all night because we were told that family was not encouraged to stay overnight. When I asked for an extra pillow, I was told they would try to find one, but they don't usually have extras. Because I was not in a private room, the lady next to me left her light on ALL NIGHT! So I did not sleep ONE WINK that night. I was concerned about bothering the lady next to me, so I was scared to talk or watch t.v. It was horrible! I hope I NEVER have to stay there again!
