Avera McKennan Hospital

Registration will a snap! The entire hospital staff was warm and friendly. This was the best hospital experience I have ever had in my lifetime!!!

There were several times that I thought I was doing things that I shouldn't have to do because there weren't any nurses around ie plugging my IV pump back into the outlet and some hygiene things that I probably should have had someone there observing me to make sure I was ok. I think that hospitals are so short staffed in general, that I got the best care that they could provide under the circumstances. Everyone there was very caring and supportive.
Since it is a catholic hosp, I appreciated the christian centered atmosphere too.

THE NURSES WHERE ALL PRETTY NICE. BUT, I NEVER SAW THEM. THEY ARE TOO BUSY. MY HUSBAND WAS THE ONE HELPING ME WITH EVERYTHING. HE FELT LIKE HE COULDN'T EVEN LEAVE TO EAT. I HAD TO GO TO XRAY ONE DAY WITH BLOOD RUNNING DOWN MY LEGS. BECAUSE, THEY ARE TOO BUSY TO EVEN HELP YOU TAKE CARE OF THAT PERSONAL STUFF. AND I WAS IN NO SHAPE TO TAKE CARE OF IT MYSELF YET. XRAY WAS VERY NICE ABOUT IT THOUGH. I HAD SOME COMPLICATIONS AND THE PA THAT WORKS WITH DR. HARRIS DIDN'T THINK IT WAS ANYTHING. THE NURSE FINALLY WENT OVER HIS HEAD AND CALLED DR. HARRIS. THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG. MY POTASSIUM WAS REALLY LOW.

I was very Happy with this hospital and they were very supportive. I did notice that some of the nursing staff knew as little about care after the procedure as me, but they were very pleasant and help me find the answers. Most were knowledgable. Also the food seemed to arrive in varing quantities and seemed a little inconsistant. I am very Happy overall though and suspect these minor complaints would happen elsewhere as well.
