Wes J. Powell Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
I liked him immediately! He was very upfront about the benefits and the risks. He told me that the surgery is just a tool, maintaining the weight loss is up to me!rnrnThe office staff is great!!rnrnThe only downside is that he was 35 miles from my home, and now I've moved and he's 50 miles away. I know to some people it's not a lot, but for me it is.
My first impression of Dr. Powell was that he was well reserved, very knowledgeable and rnI felt very comfortable with him. He was open to any questions that I had and I am looking forward to his bedside manner as I have heard he is excellent …His office staffrnIs very nice, especially Carol I really felt like she really cared about me !! I had a lot of rnQuestions and kept calling the office … I felt as if I bothered them! But its okay I need rnTo ask questions !!!!rn
Tuesday, June 26th - SURGERY DAY!. Dr. Wes Powell came in to see me before the surgery, and also visited with me 7 different times during my two-day stay at Huntington Hospital. He was absoutelty awsome. He really cares about his patients...rnJune 25, 2007-1 Day before surgery, Dr. Wes J. Powell is as wonderful as Dr. David Lourie...I'm gonna feel very comfortable with the change of surgeons. rnrn...UPDATE-I've had to change doctors due to circumstances beyound our control...I now have Dr. Wes J. Powell, I've not met him at this point, however, I've received fantastic reviews about his work and bedside manner. I'm now waiting till monday to get the news of the final conformation of the surgery date change with the hospital...rnWow! Dr.. Lourie, Is awsome, very knowledgable. He went over everything.. He emphasized before support groups and the aftercare program. He did advise of both the risks and the benefits of the surgery, and for me the benefits outweighed the risks. On a scale of one to 10, I'd give Dr. Lourie a 10+. He has a wonderful combination of both surgical competence and bedside manner....
I met with Dr. Lourie 15FEB07. He is quite nice and welcomed questions. I did not feel like I was rushed. His demeanor was very pleasant and he explained to me how they run their program. Some tests that were not required of me when I was going to have Dr. Quilici as my surgeon were required by Dr. Lourie to be absolutely sure that I am in top form for the surgery. So, that increased my impression because he did not just accept my word or lack of historical co-morbidities to justify not testing me further.rnrn11JUN07 - since I need to have my surgery by the end of June, and with Dr. Lourie not being available until 06AUG07, I am switching to Dr. Powell who was my original choice.
My first impression with my surgeon Wes Powell was he really cares about his patients. rnHis office staff is wonderful. They remember you by name and they are very patient. I called regularly with questions and never once did i get on their nerves. :) I would highly recommend Dr Powell. I was referred my a friend and she had nothing but good things to say about Dr Powell, and after meeting him my feelings are mutual. Before my surgery he was there to check on me and make sure i was ok. After sugery he was back to reasure me that everything went good and gave me a big happy face.
I immediately liked Dr. Powell. He was thorough and spent a good deal of time addressing my concerns. My surgery went extremely well and when I developed a slight fever once I got home the office had me come in to see him immediately. He also called me at home to check on me. rnrnI developed severe abdominal pain about 1 1/2 years after my surgery. I called Dr. Powell and he had me come in and he felt it was a hernia. As I was going out of town 2 days later he scheduled surgery for that night. I spent one night in the hospital and was on a plane the next day! rnrnThe support group that is affiliated with this surgical group is excellent. I have made quite a few friends there and continue to go even almost three years later. No one would regret choosing Dr. Powell!
