It's hard to not be bias about Dr. Weaver being that I work for her as her nurse. However, I do see the gentle side of her when it comes to her patients. She is very caring and loves her patients very much. She constantly has them on her mind and does not rest until she knows that they are doing well. What a great physician! You could not have asked for any one particular physician to take care of me any better than she did!
My first impression of Dr. Gibson he was calm very uinderstanding and very outgoing. His office staff was very caring. He show me that he really care about my well being. In my very first visit he went over everything all the risk of surgury the what if's and even show me the Lap Band. I would rate him to be a 10plus. He had wonderful bedside manners.
My first impression of Dr. Weaver was \"she is SO young\", however she was certainly knowledgeable and supportive. The office staff was nice. I was seen by Dr. Weaver first out of a fairly large group so I think she was a bit harried but still took a reasonable amount of time speaking with me and addressing some concerns I had. I am still scared to death of the surgery but not because of Dr. Weaver, I just am skeptical about hospitals in general. Too much infection for me. In seems everyone I have known lately that went into the hospital (not St. Francis) ended up with an infection and the whole process scares me. So far, Dr. Weaver is A #1 in my book.
Dr. Virginia McGrath-Weaver seems to be wonderful. She is very nice and listens to your concerns. rnrnI have now had my surgery and I can only say good things about her. I have to go and see her in a week and I am looking forward to talking to her again. I would recommend her to anyone looking to do this procedure. I was frustrated at the wait to see her and then the wait for the surgery BUT I would wait for her again. :)
Dr Weaver wasn't my first try at this surgery. I wasted about 4 1/2 years of my life with other doctors, on waiting lists, insurance FIASCOs, and bad attitudes. It has been my experience that some folks are into WLS because it is a booming business and a quick way to make a buck. So when I went to see Dr. Weaver, I was skeptical to say the very least. I thought, here we go again. I was so tired to the other doctor's offices treating me like a piece of crap because I had an inferior or failing insurance plan. I had been on an emotional roller coaster ride, and I had been gaining weight, unable to get control over it. I fell into a very dangerous category where a surgeon is fearful to operate. I want to be helpful here with this evaluation of Dr. Weaver, and that is why I gave you a breif overveiw of my story.rnrnFirst impressions: I was scared when she looked at my weight and said, \"You're gonna have to lose 60 pounds before I can operate.\"rnI told her what I had been through with those other doctors and staffs, to which she looked me dead in the eyes anad said, \"I'm NOT those other doctors. I WILL help you!\" She wasn't being mean in her tone, just direct and heartfelt. I like those kinds of folks.rnrnHow did my impression of her changed over time? It only got better. She gave a realistic timeframe, and made a deal with me that if I lost the weight, she'd fix me up, and buddy, she did! It was hard to lose that kind of weight in three months, but it can be done IF the motivation is there. But Dr. Weaver comes right into your room, sits down, kicks back and makes you feel like you've known her all your life. She has kids and she is very practical mannerd. IMHO anyway. She was a breath of the sweetest tasteing air after the poison I had been breathing!!rnrnHer staff, are phenomenal people. I only had a little trouble right before my surgery with a mix up over some tests. Got pretty hairy, BUT it was NOT her fault. She had a nurse I think that wasn't doing to her job, to which Doc fired her. They all apologized to me and we got it handled. It just one of those things. Please do not think it was atypical of the way they operate. They are great. That is the ONLY bad thing I can think of.rnrnI also had a unique problem. No one in my town could weigh me. I was over 500 pounds and the scales just didn't go up that high. The Nutritionist for Dr. Weaver, Kat, was all too happy to help me solve that problem. Making a 7 hour round trip once a month was difficult and expensive, but I was getting it done.rnrnI can't really answer after care questions because I kind of opted out of it. BUT know this, they do push it and are there if I need them. I'm one of those\"gotta knock me out and drag me to the doctor\" type people. But they tell you over, and over, and over about the risks and the way life will change after the surgery. If you need them they are there, HAPPY to answer questions and help you in any way they can.rnrnI would say to rate the WLS program at St. Francsis Hospital would be difficult because there is simply not a scale big enough to give them the score they deserve. See, what you have there is a team of talented people, skilled doctors and nurses who CARE!! much different from the other quacks I tried. Dr. Weaver's bedside manner is unsurpassed. I had surgery on a broken leg in Jan 2005 at the Med in Memphis. There I felt like a piece of meat, being ignored my the doctors when I asked them questions, but not at St. Francsis. If I EVER have to stay in the hospital again, I hope it's therernrnIf you want to know anything else about MY experience with Dr. weaver and her stall, I'd be happy to help you. Just e-mail me.rnrnTake care and my God bless you.rnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrn
Dr. Weaver is a popular lady. My insurance actually approved my surgery after only 4 months of meeting with PCP, but I waited 2 months just to see Dr Weaver. And after that it took 2 months to get a surgery date, but very worth it. I would not have chosen any other surgeon in the Memphis area, and I went to the other surgeon's seminars to shop around. She has a warm and caring bedside manner and I look forward to our continued Dr/patient relationship... given that my journey has just begun.
Dr. Weaver has been great - she has given me so much encouragement and support. I have heard horror stories of other bariatric doctors in my town. Thank God I was referred to her in the first place. I have nothing but praises for her. She will answer all your questions and recommend what she thinks is best for your care. All we have to do is follow the plan we've been given with our new tools.
