I met with Dr. Iannace sometime in June. I brought my sister with me to the consultation. He seemed very nice, answered all of our questions & spent about 1 hour with me. He spoke of the risks involved with the WLS but, also of the risks of not having the surgery. He made it very clear that the surgery was only a tool, and you could always gain the weight back if you don't change your eating habits. I met Dr. Iannace again for a second time on Wednesday 10-24-07 and I feel I have made the best choice in my surgeons. He answered more questions I had and made me feel more at ease. He noticed i was nervous and reassured me everything will be fine. His staff is very nice and helpful, especially Joanne.

Originally I thought I was going in for my group orientation to meet Dr. Capella who would do the surgery. But when the forms were handed out Dr. Iannace was under Aetna's plan. Both doctors spoke and explained the procedures. Questions were asked by everyone in the room including myself. It was almost like being a sardine packed in a can. But as long as my questions were asked and answered that was all that mattered. Dr. Iannace is quite young but I listened as he spoke and he seemed very knowledgeable and informative. Dr. Capella you can see was the man with the experience. I was originally thinking I would have the laperscopic surgery. But both doctors seem to talk more about the open. After leaving there Irncalled my insurance company to find out if I was going to be covered and I was but it was not an easy task. I was told that in order to have the surgery I was required six months of post opp visits with my general doctor on a monthly basis, see a physiologist and show proof that I have tried to take the weight off under a program (example Weight Watchers). Also you are required to see a nutritionist. So my crusade as I call it began! In March of 06 I made my appointments with my doctor and followed protocol to the tee. Tobby the insurance coordinator at Doctor Iannace's office was very helpful but very stern and to the point. For six months I was in my doctors office every month. One month I missed due to a death in my family so that set me back to now seven months before my paper work would be sent in for approval. But I always kept on track and kept in close contact with my insurance company. By September Tobby held dates for me and gave me a few choices. Still not being approved she wanted to make sure if I was that I would be booked for when the OK came in. I honestly didn't think with my luck that I would get approved until the day she called me and told me I was. I cried like a baby! My surgery was now set for November 9th, 2006. I went to Hackensack Hospital for all my pre opp procedures. They were very pleasant there. Two weeks later I went in for my surgery. I was very nervous and felt very scared about my chest being opened up. I was not nervous about the change that would take affect in fact I was so excited and ready. I remember the day they brought me into the operating room..... The number above the door way was 11..... Now keep in mind...It was November the 11th month... my mom died on November 11.... When I was younger my apartment was number 11 and of course 9/11 played a part in my emotions as well. But in I went. Dr. Iannace was in there already playing on his black berry.... very comfortable and relaxed (that was a good thing)! Dr. Capella was going to assist him in the surgery as well. I felt very comfortable with that! Out I went.... One minute I was talking to them both the next I woke up with an incision in my chest. I had a little trouble breathing. I believe it was due to the fact that I had been a smoker in the past. I woke up in recovery surrounded by a lot of nurses... It was quite loud in this room. I laid there for hours seeing my husband every three hours.. That was the part I did not like. I wanted to be with someone in my family and I became very emotional. As for the after math... I was in pain... but it was controlled by med's... I still had a lot of problems with my breathing... But I was up and walking the next day. Recovering at home took a lot of time. But in several weeks I was moving around just fine. The first week after my surgery I lost 25 pounds. Both doctors while I was in the hospital came to check on me several times. There concern was more my breathing. I remember Dr. Capella, squeezing my stomach and saying cough! Both doctors took very good care of me and showed concern I would expect from a doctor. They followed up with calls to my house and did everything a doctor should do. I read some comments on Dr. Capella where it said he had no bed side manners.. But most doctors don't... As long as you give the care and attention one should receive then that is what matters most... Dr. Iannace was always very personable I do believe his age plays a factor in that.. I only have seen Doctor Iannace once since my surgery and today is June 22, 2007. That is only due to my time as far as getting into there office... At the time I saw him I was down 40 pounds.... He wanted me to loose another 30 by the time I should have seen him again. But I just haven't gotten in.... I will because I cant wait to show him my results... I am 103 pounds down as of today, I have another 25 to go.... I feel and look great and it is all due to both doctors... It was the best decision, other then having children and marrying my husband that I have ever made. As far as after care... you have to want to do the hard work...... You cant have your hand held the entire time.... You have to call to make your follow up visits... NO one is going to do this for you. If I had to rate both doctors on there overall.... 1 - 10 I would have to rate them a 11..... I recommend both doctors to anyone that is serious about this surgery.... Ask questions... do you homework.... feel comfortable in your decision..... Make sure you have the support of your family and friends.... But don't expect everyone to be supportive... You do what is best for you..... This summer I plan on going to Great Adventures with my children... I cant wait to get my small butt into one of those rides.... This is a new life for me... and it can be for you to...... Good Luck to all!

Dr. Iannace was great. Very open and honest with explaining the entire procedure. He made me feel very comfortable that I chose him as my surgeon.

At first I really thought he was too young to be opening up my stomach & rummaging around in their, but after speaking to him and I asked A LOT of questions & all the patience he had I felt comfortable enought to allow him to help me change my life. The staff at the office is so nice, extremely accomodating & patient. Whenever I've called they have answered all my questions & if they didn't know they found out and got back to me that same day.

So far, my surgeon seems really nice. Both him and his staff have been extremely helpful answering my questions. No complaints here. I just hope I get the insurance approval to have my surgery, but I have faith that I made the right choice in a doctor.

I thought he was incredible. I would recommend him to everyone. He doesn't make you feel stupid - talks to you like a person. Takes the time to answer all your questions. Thru- out the process I have gotten to know mostly everyone at the office and I do not have a single complaint about any time I encountered any situation or problem. I really felt liked they cared about my well-being. I would give the Iannace and Capella Staff 10 out of 10 - they were wonderful! I was recommended by another patient and now my sister is going thru the process with Iannace and Capella. I really felt their bedside manor and competence was outstanding!!!!
