I first met Dr. Gritsus at an informational seminar that his office held. Dr. Gritsus was very friendly, polite and courteous. He took time to explain the entire process and was very willing to entertain and answer any and all questions that were raised.
My impression of Dr. Gritsus really didn't change over time. He was very thourough and complete throughout the entire time that I have known him. He took the time to thouroughly explain the steps of the surgery, the recovery and what could be expected over time.
Even after the surgery, Dr. Gritsus was very concerned with my well being and made sure that all post op questions and issues were discussed and handled.
His entire office staff is great. Very personable, friendly and professional. They have always been very supportive and encouraging. I've never had any issues with them and they all have been very helpful.
I would highly recommend Dr. Gritsus and his staff to anyway that is considering gastric by-pass or banding surgery. I felt and feel completely confident in him and his abilities as a surgeon.
I've felt great and have had no post-op issues or problems. Anyone considering surgery will be glad to know that Dr. Gritsus is very thorough and will take the time necessary to make sure that any prospective patient is at peace with their decision.
Dr. Gritsus does not disappear once the surgery is over and his bill has been paid. He's very concerned with your future, your health and your success. I've heard many stories where some surgeons completely disappear after the surgery is done and have little or no post-op visits.
Dr. Gritsus greatly encourages aftercare and joining support groups to assist the patient through the entire weight loss process and the many adjustments that people need to make.
Dr. Gritsus did not try to avoid the possible risks of the surgery. He explained what they were, what the probability of the risk happening was and what he and his staff did in order to prevent or minimize the potential of this risk happening. He laid all the cards out on the table and answered any questions that I had. I felt my confident knowing that Dr. Gritsus was being upfront and honest about the surgery as opposed to feeling like he was trying to sneak one past me.
Obviously, I would rate Dr. Gritsus and his entire staff very highly. As I mentioned before, I would recommend anyone that is considering having this surgery to at least attend one of his informational seminars and find out for themselves.
I think that both surgical competence and bedside manner are both equally important. But if I had to choose one, I would select surgical competence over bedside manner. I would rather have the peace of mind that the surgeon is the best at this procedure. Knowing this greatly helps me relax knowing that I am in good hands.
Bedside manner is very important as well, especially immediately after the surgery. The patient needs to know how things went, what should be expected next, etc. If the surgeon takes the time to extinguish any fears or anxiety the patient has, it goes a long way for the patient. If the surgeon is non-existent or spends virtually no time with the patient, it only makes the patient sit and wonder what's wrong and makes them try to answer there own questions. Not a good idea.
If there is anything that I would recommend is that surgeons (mine included) spend a little more time with their patients after the surgery has been performed. I understand the complexity of surgeon's schedule, but spending those extra 10 minutes with a post-op patient would be greatly appreciated.
Dr Gritsus is a wonderful surgeon. he has a great bedside manner, and he treats you with special attention. my lap band surgery was supposed to be same day surgery, but because i was having some chest pain, he decided to keep me overnight for observation and i met with a cardiologist just to be sure i was ok.
he and his staff have helped out however they can, from helping me get approved for the surgery to my hospital stay to my after surgery care. his pa-c does a great job in enphasizing what i should be eating and vitamins i should be taking, making sure i understand how to read the labels on certain foods for the nutritional value i need. the doctor took the time to explain both procedures to me (bypass vs. lapband) explained the risks and possible side effects of both, and made sure i understood completely that this is a complete lifestyle change-not a quick fix.
i believe in my personal opinion that Dr. Gritsus is a very competent surgeon, and with his personable bedside manner it makes him the perfect doctor !
soft-spoken, kind-hearted,cares about individual, did not pressure into having surgery, good bedside manner
has not changed,i really appreciate the interst shown and how pleased they are with my progress,it shows in their eyes and smiles
the office staff is very friendly and make you feel comfortable
I can't say there wasa anything I didn't like
he very much emphasizes the importance of follow up visits
yes
I think they made me aware of the risks and did not want to push me into making a decision I would be uncomfotable with. They let me decide which surgery I wanted to go with and respected my views
I highly reccomend DR.Gritsus and his team
his surgical competance & bedside manner were both great
Very friendly and open. Dr. Gritus and his entire staff are always willing to talk and do anything they can to help. They discuss everything you need to expect in great detail. Both the risks and expectation are reasonably and fairly explained so that anyone can make an informed decision witout pressure.
9/5/03 - Vadim Gritsus, M.D. (Lincoln Park, NJ) I met Dr. Gritsus today with my husband. He is a kind, caring, smart, talented doctor. He takes the time to explain what the surgery entails, the risks, what happens in the OR, hospital, discharge, and aftercare. He is concerned that you have support at home and welcomes family members and friends. He encourages you to ask any questions and to actively participate in your plan of care. He answers you honestly and frankly. He lets you know that he is there for you 24/7 and will not let your phone calls go unanswered. He particularly stresses how important the aftercare is and that he and Dean will continue to monitor your progress in your follow up appointments. Dr. Gritsus has monthly support meetings and gives continuous patient education. He lets you know that after surgery we will have a long term relationship filled with support, education, guidance and celebration as we lose weight and our health improves. He is very thorough in the pre-op process - lots of tests to determine all of your medical conditions, but the reasoning behind the tests is that he wants to give me the best possible care and have the best outcome. I am very happy in my choice of surgeons. I feel he is a gifted surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone considering the Lap RNY surgery or the Lap Band. Dr. Gritsus also works with a great Physician's Assistant, Dean, who was very kind, friendly and very thorough in interviewing me. He also made it known that he is there to answer any questions. If any questions remained in my mind I know I could call their office and receive an answer. He said they welcome feedback from their patients and they’ll continue to meet my changing needs. They make a great team! The whole office staff is very professional, show genuine concern for their patients, and are very helpful with applying for insurance approval, financing suggestions, drafting/sending letters to doctors, and retrieving medical records. They take their time with you on the phone and never rush you. My messages are always promptly passed on. My dealings with this practice has always been positive!!
I was very impressed with the throughness of the doctor and the physicians assitant. I felt like I was in good hands. His office staff is wonderful. I feel that you get the one on one that you need from everybody, they have the time to sit with you and talk, you are not rushed because he is running behind. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Gritsus - and Dean they are life savers.
I am so glad that I met everone in there office, they make you feel so good about yourself.
My surgeon and his Physicians Assistant were wondreful! They spent well over 4 hours doing a personal oreintation for my cousin and me who is also considering surgery. I was aprehensive and had many questions. Both Docotrs were patient and suppotive. The office staff were pleasant and encouraging. What I liked best was the time spent talking to my husband who called bracuse he was very nervous about my getting the surgery. I also appreciated all of the supportive services offered to patients, my surgeon has resources for everything from psychologist, nutritionist and personal trainers. Aftercare was also emphasized. Dr. Gritsus explaind the need for support from my personal Physicial, Gynocologist and all others involvd.
A great deal of time was spent discussing the risk of surgery. I was truly impressed, all of my questions and/or concerns were answered. I was also told if I had any other questions and/or concerns to feel free to call.
