My first impression with Dr Kuwada was how nice and relaxed he made me feel. We talked about the different surgeries, the risks involved with both surgies, recovery time and what to expect afterwards. I also met with the nutritionist afterwards and had my lab work done. They will be making an appoinment for me to see the fitness counselor and to have a sleep evaluation done. It was the best 2 hour doctors appoinment I have ever had. Everyone in the office was great.

Dr. Kuwada is excellent. He is friendly but knows exactly what he is doing and explains everything in depth. He and his staff are professional and take great care that you understand the risks and the benefits associated with WLS. They hold your hand throughout the pre-surgical testing and during the approval process. They have an excellent aftercare program that includes a monthly support group run by Nurse Practitioner Cathy Head in addtional to an on staff nutritionist.rnI could not have asked for a more competent surgeon and I had complete faith in his abilities. His bedside manner is affable and he just makes you feel comfortable with all aspects of the experience.

I first met with Dr. Kuwada was on 2/24/05 through a referral from a co-worker. I was welcomed by a very friendly staff and the consultation was extremely thorough. I appreciated his bedside manner and sincere attention to my individual needs. The visit was lengthy including emphasized details of pre-op responsibilities, post-op aftercare, and surgical risks. The entire process from that initial appointment until the day of my surgery was smooth and reassuring. I had my surgery on 4/25/05 without complications. I continued to receive excellent care during my hospital stay and in post-op appointments. The Nurse Practitioner, Cathy Head, was also extremely helpful. Together, along with the rest of their team, I felt confidant that I made a great choice of surgeon. I will continue to recommend Dr. Kuwada to individuals considering weight loss surgery.

I was referred to Dr. Kuwada for wls and have met with him and am very impressed with him as well as his staff. I have have several interactions with his staff and they are exceptional. He is patient and kind and spends as much time as needed with you. When I went for my first consultation with him we were there for 2 hours. We met his PA and she is wonderful. His staff is respectful and the enviroment is very patient friendly. Justine does all the work for insurance coverage and she is excellent. They are quick to call back. I know several people that have had surgery with Dr. Kuwada and were more than pleased. The program is complete in that they have a support group that meets monthly, a nutritionist available and from reports to me from other patients are quick to call back after surgery when you have any questions. I will update as time progresses and see if things continue this well.

My first impression of Dr. Kuwada was that he's busy. But as I talked with him I realized he REALLY knew what he was talking about and he's probably busy because he's such a good surgeon. My general practitioner recommended Dr. Kuwada and my general practitioner is very on the ball when it comes to everything.

Dr. Kuwada's office staff is awesome. They generally call back the same day that you call unless you call really late and then they'd call the next morning. The nurse was a little difficult to get in touch with but Justina was ALWAYS there. I'm actually wondering if she ever gets a break.

I can't really think of anything I didn't like about Dr. Kuwada. He was very knowledgeable. The night after the surgery...I'm sure he'd been there all day. But 11:00pm at night he comes in to tell me I need to get up and walk. (The residency doctor told me I could wait until the next morning) But Dr. Kuwada reminded me that blood clots are a possibility so I needed to get moving. I'm sure he was exhausted from doing whatever else that day and my surgery, yet he stopped by to make sure I was doing what was necessary.

Dr. Kuwada really focuses on the surgery. He talked a little with me about aftercare but his staff really does most of that. And trust me..the staff talks about aftercare...sets you up with support group meetings.

He was very thorough in discussing the risks of the surgery. He did not paint a rosy picture with a skinny me in it. He was also very candid about his mortality rate which was only one and he's done more than 230 of these procedures.

Overall I would rate Dr. Kuwada a 10. Keep in mind I've had little experience with medical staff because this is my first surgical experience beyond wisdom tooth removal but...I can't think of anything he could've done to make the experience better

Surgical competence and bedside manner were both well above my expectations.

Really like his staff- Cathy the NP,Justina (who handles insurance.) Dr. Kuwada seems very calm and confident. I trust that he will not lead me down the primrose path. Other collegues speak highly of him as well. He is operating on the people he works with at the hospital. I think that speaks volumes. This practice does not operate on individuals with BMI >50. Require: Nutritional and Psych eval, Cardiac clearance, Pulmonary function, and EGD and Colonoscopy. Nice Bedside manner and does cover risks vs benefits of WLS. At this time does not do LAP-Bands. All surgeries are at Carolinas Medical Center . Overall, so far, positive experience.

I had my first phone contact with Dr. Kuwada’s Nurse Practitioner (Cathy Head) on Tuesday, September 6, 2005. She was very nice over the phone. She scheduled me to attend the information session on 9/20/2005 and then advised me to call and set up my consultation with Dr. Kuwada after the information session. I received a call from Cathy later on that day stating that Dr. Kuwada had a cancellation for 9/8/05 and of course I told her I would take the appointment.

Dr. Kuwada was very nice during our consultation meeting. He is one of the surgeons with CMC General Surgery in the Carolinas Laparoscopic and Advance Surgery Program. One of his specialties is bariatric surgery. He explained the positives and negatives of surgery and the different types of surgery. He reviewed what is expectations are for his patients before, during and after surgery. He was very patient and answered all of my questions. He has a good sense of humor…which I liked. I think he was a good choice for a surgeon and am so glad my endocrinologist referred me to him!
