Dr. Steven Simper, Bariatric Surgeon Steven Simper, MD, FACS, FASMBS is a highly skilled surgeon specializing in laparoscopic bariatric surgery at Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians located in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended undergraduate and medical school through an ROTC Air Force Scholarship at the University of Utah, graduating in the top 10% of his class. While serving in the Air Force, he completed his general surgery residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center and a fellowship at Keesler Medical Center and the Biloxi VA Hospital. He also served as Chief of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at Scott Air Force Base. He first began performing bariatric surgery in 1984 while serving in the United States Air Force. Dr. Simper is board-certified in Surgical Critical Care, Vascular Surgery, and General Surgery with specialized training in bariatric surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and of the American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (FASMBS). As a leading surgeon, he has presented at bariatric conferences worldwide and authored numerous publications about the treatments for obesity. He also serves as an Advisory Board Member of the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC).
