Dr. Poplawski was very friendly, and super happy when we met for our group consult. He seems sincere, and I can tell he enjoys the type of surgery he does. He had a very cheery sense of humour, and sympathized with all of our situations. It's as if he were moridly obese himself! -laughs-rnrnHis office staff at the Barix Clinic were non-judgemental and polite. some of them had even gone through the surgery themselves, and spoke one-on-one for additional support.rnrnThere isn't much to say that I /don't/ like, but I will tell you one thing about Dr. Poplawski; He doesn't sugar coat anything, and really hates it when people get hung up on small details, such as reverting to open surgery if 'scopic can't be done. I can't say as to blame him though. People should know all the risks involved, and if you're not willing to put up with something small, then perhaps surgery is not for you.rnrnSo far, I would rate Dr. Poplawski an 8/10. I wil know more after my surgery goes, of course.rnrn\"Doc, you've got a date with my innards!\" rn-hands them to you, beaming-rnrn-Carleen LeBlancrnBA Psychology, Honours.
So far, so good. Dr. Poplawski seemed very cool and intelligent. rnrnI did find the Barix Clinic Seminar humorous. The seats were extra wide -which is awesome...but the room smelled like fried pork chops. I also find it funny that you can putt a golf ball to EVERY fast food restaurant imaginable from the front door of Barix.rnrnIf I was a stand up comic, I would have had a field day with the scene.rnrn+++++rnrnUpdate - I had my surgery on 8/30 and only spent one night in the hospital. The staff was phenomenal. I enjoyed being in a Barix Clinic and not mixed with other patients. Great Job Barix - Ypsilanti!
well my first impression was straight shooter, which is what I like. I like the bitter honesty I don't need someone who is going to hold my hand I like the extreme knowledge and no tiptoeing around the issues. Dr. Pop was a great surgeon to have and he is straight to the point. Now even after having my surgery I still feel the same way, Barix was and is an amazing place to have this kind of surgey performed at.
Dr Poplawski is a gentleman. He is thorough and asks all the right questions. I found him to be down to earth and he doesn't have a \"god complex\" like some other specialists. I enjoyed my appointment with him and felt comfortable in his presence. He told me the facts, the risks and the extra risks with the surgery that I would require. He also told me that I could change my mind at any time up until they started the anestesia - something I should have perhaps done with my last surgery. He said that we wouldn't be just treating the surgery, but we would also have to address the origonal problem for overeating. I would recommend Dr Poplawski to anyone interested in this weight loss journey.
My first impression of Dr. Poplawski was that he is extremely intelligent, empathetic, and funny. Everyone at Barix was friendly and helpful as was Dr. Pop (as everyone calls him). rnUPDATE Post-Surgery - Dr. Poplawski was very kind and supportive during my pre-op session and later when he came to see me. He strolls around the halls with a laptop on a cart so that he can read your file and then input any new data into it. Once he steps inside your room, the focus is on you, your surgery, your health and aftercare. With so many patients to see and call, he still makes time for you. I had to call a few days later about some medication I needed to take and Dr. Pop called me back within 10 mins., asked how I was doing and answered my questions.rnrnWhat I didn't like about him is that he is making me lose 35 lbs. (or try to) before my surgery. I understand why, but if I haven't been able to lose weight before, how the hell am I gonna now? I hope I can. I'm trying but with my current mobility issues, it's not easy. rnUPDATE Post-Surgery - I lost 32 of the 35 lbs. that Dr. Pop had asked me to do. He was very pleased with my progress and was able to do my surgery laproscopically. He also repaired a small hernia that was found under my belly button.rnrnDr. Pop emphasizes that the importance of aftercare is just as important as the surgery. You need the support to utilize the tool you are getting to it's maximum potential. Barix has a structured aftercare program through a series of follow-up appointments and support groups. His staff is also available for any questions you have at any time. You and Barix make a lifelong committment to each other.rnrnThe risks of the surgery were explained completely and in a manner that is not to scare you, but to make sure you understand EXACTLY what complications could arise, so that you can be prepared for them.rnrnAt this time, I would rate Dr. Pop as top-notch. Even with having to see several patients after my seminar, when it was my turn for my consult, he focussed on me. He gave me his full attention and answered all my questions. He was very thorough and asked me many questions that I didn't think mattered to WLS surgery, but after he explained why, I was impressed.rnrnI believe a good doctor should have a high degree of competence in his field. A good bedside manner is great to have as well. And having both, is damn near a miracle. So far, Dr. Pop has an excellent manner in dealing with patients from my experience. I am looking forward to the results of his surgical competence, which is very high, according to other patients I have met.rnUPDATE Post-Surgery - I would have to admit, that while Dr. Pop is a likeable person, and can be funny, it is obvious that he is a very busy man. This could be interpreted as not caring about you, but this is not the case. You are the main focus in your life. Dr. Pop has 100's of patients to care for, and his time is limited. This affects his bedside manner by seeming abrupt. I know that during my seminar, he was relaxed and joked around with us, so it's obvious that his 'business' cap is on when on rounds. I'm okay with that. While it would be nice for him to come in and sit with you, he just doesn't have the time.
Although Dr Pop came across as very busy he did answer all of my questions at the initial consultation. All the staff there are amazing. They all seem to really enjoy their jobs and are truly happy to help in any way they can.rnrnI have never been treated so well in a hospital before. Of course coming from Canada is a different world isn't it?rnrnDr Pop helped with all concerns and questions. Put me at ease just prior to surgery and actually had me laughing. rnrnCouldn't be happier with my decision. I would recommend the clinic and Dr. Poplawsi to anyone and everyone.
Dr. Pop was friendly and straightforward, which I appreciated. He detailed what he would be doing and how it would work. We also discussed the importance of having a good support network and how the pouch is a tool that must be used properly to attain optimal results. I am looking forward to my surgery with Dr. Pop and embarking on my weight loss journey!rnrnrnJune 28, 2007rnrnDr. Pop continued to be a great supportive Man,after a few failed attempts to have surgery, I finally am one week out. My experience was positive, Dr. Pop is professional yet has a warm personal side that he shares with his patients. I really think I lucked out having him as a surgeon because he is in my opinion the cream of the crop in bariatric surgeons. rnrnHis surgical technique was excellent, I have minimal bruising after one week and am just a little sore. He also did a liver biopsy while doing my surgery which is an extra step that was very needed. rnrnBarix has an extensive after-care program that addresses all facets of life after weight loss surgery.rnrnI would be remiss if I did not mention the staff at Barix, that are exemplary. Everyone that I encountered was friendly, polite and caring and went that extra step for you.rnrnAn Exceptional Experience!!
