My first impression was that Dr. Pop was honest, straight to the point and wasn't trying to do a sell job...on me, he was there to answer questions, inform me of the procedure and complications. His staff were lovely, Dr. Pop is honest, and nice, he is the type of person that is to the point and it is important for him that you find out why you have an eating disorder in addition to this surgery which is just a tool.

I wouldn't have trusted my life with anyone else other than Dr. Poplaswki! I first met Dr. Poplawski at a Barix seminar that he held in Windsor. I was very impressed with this man. Having previously been a transplant surgeon, I have complete faith in his surgical abilities. He was professional and yet funny during the seminar and I liked his manner about him. My husband said that he feels really good about Dr. Pop, and that he feels that I would be safe in his hands. Dr. Pop stressed the importance of the fact that this surgery is what you make of it, and whatever lead you to overeat in the first place will still be there once surgery is done. He is extremely realistic and expects you to know your facts before the surgery about aftercare. It is not a magic pill and Dr. Pop stressed that you need to deal with whatever has caused you to overeat in the first place. He doesn't fluff off things. He knows what it takes to be successful post op.

One thing when researching this surgery that I was really looking for was that the surgeon do the leak test/ultrasound the day after surgery. My biggest concern is a leak especially since where I live will be a good distance from where the surgery will take place. The other groups that I'd enquired about, Cori and Livlite, do NOT automatically do this test post surgery. Dr Pop does. I feel very safe with this extra preventative measure. The other thing that I really think is great about Barix is that the post-op appointments are covered by OHIP in the agreement with Barix. That means no big out of pocket expenses post surgery. That's a great extra that no one else seems to provide.

I want to also mention that Dr. Pop recently came out to our Barix support group in Windsor. I don't know how many other surgeons would do this for such a small group of post ops. I commend him for showing his dedication to his patients. I highly recommend him to anyone - he is a top notch surgeon!

I do hope that Barix would start putting more work into helping patients dealing with the psychological aspects of surgery which by far are more challenging than any physical restrictions of the surgery.

Doc Pop is the best! He is funny, comforting and caring. The staff at the Michigan Barix Clinic were top notch and made me feel like a human being not a patient or a burden.

My first impression of Dr Poplawski is that he was very smart, very professional and very caring. He was very nice with a sense of humor. He told me jokes about Biochemists in our first meeting. Then I was surprised that he was greeting me with words from my own language. He has a very well structured aftercare program which is emphasized by the organized follow up visits and the 24/7 emergency hotline. He addressed the risks of the surgery in the first meeting and emphasized these before the surgery and in the organized visits afterwards. Overall, he is an excellent surgeon whoese surgical competence and bedside manner exceeded my expectations and I am so glad that I chose him as my surgeon

If someone is considering a RNY Gastric Bypass and lives in Michigan, I would highly recommend having Dr. Steven Poplawski be your Batrix physician. He performed my surgery on Oct. 1st and made sure all my pain medications were there if I needed them. He really cares for his patients. Thanks Dr. Pop!

The surgeon I've selected is Dr. Steven Poplawski. I've done lots of research on Dr. Pop (as he likes to be called), and he comes highly recommended. Also, I've spoken directly with one of his past patients, as well as read lots of great reviews on him. In our 1st meeting (May 9, 2008) he was very honest, straight forward, supportive & reassuring. He really believes in what he does, and he genuinely seems to care about his patients too. That being said, while bed-side manner is important, Dr. Pop's track record is what sold me. He's performed over 2,500 gastric bypass surgeries, and he's never had a fatality during or after surgery from complications. As well, he's worked as a trauma surgeon & a transplant surgeon. He's extremely intelligent & well-trained in his field! Dr. Poplawski is the best!!!

I had Dr. Kam for the Lap band. The band has had many problems, so I am looking for Dr. Paplowski to do a revision. Dr. Poplawsi seems to be very kind and caring.rnrnThe office staff is very friendly and efficient. They remember me from previous visits, which I find amazing, since there are so many people who go there.

Dr Poplawski, was wonderful. I went for a consult at the Barix facility in Ypsilanti Michigan. My first impression was that I could trust him. His office staff were very friendly and the facility was updated and clean.rnThe doctor explained everything, all pro's and con's. I was very impressed that he was worried about any other issues I may have. He wasn't interested in just getting paid. He has great interest in his patients.rnI felt very comfortable with him and the facility.rnKnowing his background I have great trust in his capabilities.

My first impression of Dr. Pop (during the group portion of initial consult) was that he seemed very competent and straight -forward. After meeting privately with him, I was sure that he was the surgeon for me. He has a nice sense of humor and covered just about any question I had. rnrnI went home and began researching him and Barix Clinics. Both turned up excellent results. He has extensive surgical experience. rnrnPrior to surgery, he was all business. This made me feel confident during a very stressful time. After surgery, he was very positive and still very professional. I felt confident in his surgical skills and medical ability. While he is very personable, he isn't a huggy, sugary-sweet kind of doctor. If that is what you want, then you may want to look elsewhere. However, if you want a surgeon that knows what he is doing, Dr. Pop is your guy! rnrnDue to the great distance between me and Yipsi, I reluctantly had to switch physicians for my post surgical care. Although I am very comfortable with my new doctor, I wish I could have continued the process with Dr. Pop and received his imput on my progress. Thanks, Dr. Pop!!!! I'm feeling great!
