I was very impressed with Dr. P. He was compassionate yet factual. I didn't feel he had a hidden agenda to do as many procedures as he can, but rather made sure the surgery was for you. The office staff was professional. I left feeling confident that if I was approved for the surgery I was in good hands.
Dr. Poplawski was very personable and confident he asked very pointed and complete questions. I felt after speaking with him that he one was qualified and two would take great care of me. He had a good sense of humor and had me feeling comfortable. BTC did not seem organized but after I complained, they more than compensated as the office I was at is new. Office manager responded and moved eveything quickly.
I was a little surprised with Dr. Poplawski at my consultation. I thought it would be him trying to sell me on the surgery. This was not the case at all. Do not get me wrong he is very much for the surgery but he wants to make sure it is right for you. He pushes you getting counciling very hard so you can deal easier with all of the changes. Over all I would say he is a straight forward and nice guy.
The office personnal were nice at my consult but when I called a couple of weeks latter the girl was very rude. I could tell she was busy and she asked to call me back later and never did. I also had a really hard time getting my insurance person to call me back. Her message said she would call back within 24 hours but it was 3 calls and a week and a half later before she finally returned my call.
My husband and I are both very impressed with Dr. Poplawski. I've never had surgery before so this is a big step for me. I didn't know what to look for or what to expect in a surgeon. I did meet with another surgeon before Poplaski. I left that consulatation feeling very uncertain about him. I wondered if I would feel that way about all surgeons just because of my own fear. A couple people recommended Poplawki so I decided to meet him to compare my impression of surgeons. Poplawski offered up lots of information... he took his time with us....I sort of thought of him as a marriage couselor. He told my husband how please he was to see my husband being by my side every step of the way. Poplawski said this surgery makes good marriages better.........but it weakens week marriages. He talked to my husband how its a natural tendency for men to start thinking that their wife is cheating once she lost all the weight because she gets so much more attention. But he reassured my husband it a male tendancy that has no truth to it.
I realize a surgeon isn't going to leave anyone with warm fuzzies.......its really not his job. But I did feel that we had a heart to heart talk. I left feeling confident that I could go through with this and that he was the man for the job.
He was very straigt forward. He
introduced himself, and told me some about his background and credentials. I can't remember the amount, but he has done quite a few of theses RNY Surgeries. He was very
thourough in his explanation of the surgery,
using a board to illustrate as he talked. At
one point I felt like he was trying to talk
me out of the surgery, he was honestly letting me know what was ahead. He told me this wasn't a magic pill , that there was
a lot of work ahead on my part. When I walked in , I felt the staff at the desk appeared rather indifferent. Sort of matter of fact. All the rest of the professional
staff was very helpful, informative, and welcoming. Melanie Edwartowski is my patient
counselor, she also had surgery from Dr. B.
She showed me her incision, talked about the surgery, and the great staff at Addison. She sure was tiny. She was so happy, she said they saved my life. I am waiting for
approval now. Pray I get it. My hand is in the Lords, and I pray for his direction.
Well, guess what, one day before surgery
they called, and my Doctor had a family emergency, so I got (Doctor Poplawski), he was just great. He came in to talk to me before the surgery to see if I had any questions. Mona his nurse was great too. I asked him to play 5o and 6o's music while I was in surgery, he immediatly went and got a tape. Cool Hey, Hmm, I don't think I heard it though. Good drugs no pain. Praise the Lord for taking us through this.
Only thing I would have like was an after visit from him. BTC does have an internest that checks on you daily. Dr. Jeffers. she is a good Doctor, but a stop in from the surgeon would have been good.
My Sergon is Dr. Popwalski from the BTC "Bariatrics Treatment Center of west Michigan" In Halland Michigan. Dr. Popwalski seems to be very kind and caring. But also to the point. Witch I like. His Office Staff is wonderfull beautiful people all who have had the sergery themselves. So that makes them understand a whole lot more. The waiting room is outfitted with extra big chairs. Because after all were NOT skinny yet :o) So far I have a great opinion of my Dr. and his staff. I will keep this updated in the future.
I had my consultation on 1-4-00
my surgeon is Steve Poplowski at Ann Arbor Michigan. He is nice he was a little stiff at first then, he loosened up , he is nice
staff is ok, he went over everything very well of course I have been researching this surgury for 1 year so I had little questions.
I would give him a 8 out of 10
I think he is very competant and has a good bed side manner ,I am now waiting for approvel from insurance. office staff ok but they need to work on personality. when calling to check on approvel they were very cold, not all just a few
