A wise person told me to choose my surgeon very carefully, it is the most important choice you can make. When I met Dr. Rohrscheib i got a good feeling about him. I think I have made a good choice. I do, however, have reservations about John Warner Hospital just because of it's size, or rather lack of it!

Dr Rohrscheib is very knowledgeable and explained the entire procedure to me. He advised me of all the risks involved with the procedure. He is very nice and his staff is really nice as well. I had my first consultation on 1/7/02 and have been waiting on insurance approval this whole time. Then Rita his insurance person called me and gave me the good news and scheduled the surgery right then and there. I go in for my consult on April 3rd. Getting a little nervous but I am assured that I am in good hands.

I am probably skewed in my perceptions of this guy. My intial visit was with Dr. Brian Boe in Belvidere. Insurance issues forced me to change my plans, so I went to see Dr. Rohrscheib. He didn't address the surgery or risks or whatever with me because I had already done them with Dr. Boe. Dr. Rohrscheib answered all of my questions thoroughly and made sure I understood everything. I've only had one visit, and every one was very nice.

Well, I have changed surgeons mid-stream. A new Bariatric Clinic opened in Clinton, Illinois which is much, much closer to Decatur. Dr. Sidney Rohrscheib is the surgeon and I liked him a lot. He has been doing surgeries in Clinton for above 5 years, and now is doing gastric bypass. He will also do your surgery at the Carle Clinic in Champaign if you so choose. He does his own psych evaluations and all the pre-op tests, etc is done in the John Warner Hospital in Clinton.
Dr. R is a very caring doctor. If you are having problems, he calls you personally to see how you're feeling. He goes above and beyond the call of duty.

First impression was very good. He seemed very knowledgeable about both procedures and what to expect. Dr. Rohrscheib trained at the U of Ohio, which is a well known bariatric proving ground.
Rita and Terri are his office nurses. They did a terrific job making me feel comfortable. The process of gathering pertinent info to submit with the first letter seemed to drag, but I think they just wanted to be thorough and not have to back-track later.

POST_OP UPDATE
My surgery was awesome! Dr Rohrscheib did an exceptional job. My scar is about 4 inches shorter than my wife's. (Her surgeon was in Peoria). Recovery from anesthesia was a breeze. I stood at the bedside that eve. and even sat in a chair for 30 minutes or so. I had a little trouble sleeping in the Hospital, so Dr R. let me go home a day early since I was doing so well otherwise. Dr. R visited at least twice daily each day and stayed to answer any questions that I or my family came up with.

I really like Dr. Rohrscheib and his staff. Very personable and very helpful. Explained everything in detail.... and answered any questions I might have had.
The aftercare they described was to meet w/ the nutritionist every time I meet w/ Dr. R after the surgery.
He addressed the risks of the surgery and also the benefits.
He seems genuinely caring and this passes onto his patients.
