I have to say I have not met him as of yet I will be having an appointment with him on Aug.15.I do have a date,I had that set up by way of his receptionist.I have completed my psyc/nutrition.but have more going to be scheduled for my pre-op & post op.I picked Dr.Randall because I know at least four women that have had a very successful surgery and they highly recomended him.I am sure I will have more nice things to say after I meet him.

I met with Dr.Sheldon Randall yesterday morning,My first impression wis he seemed to be a very kind man,He sat down with myself and my mother and told us the risks and the pros of the surgery he also drew a diagram of what the procedure was and what will be done to my stomach I found my meeting with him very informative and nice.He seems to want his patients to do well and he seems to care about their well being.Which I think is very important.

Sheldon Randall is warm, engaging, and highly regarded by every patient I have met. He has an excellent track record, and is very well known in the medical community.
The office is fantastic! His staff is so pleasant and reassuring. Love'em.
He is harder to see than the president...very booked in advance. I had a one year wait for a surgical date... This speaks volumes about how successful and popular he is as a surgeon. When your appointment finally comes, the office wait is minimal, you are given ample time to discuss issues, His attentention is clearly focused and connected to your needs and concerns. He gives you a clear cut road to follow for preparation and the risks and benefits are very clearly mapped out.
He has a very comprehensive support group that fills a conference room of pre and post op patients that he follows. This support offers prearation and after care second to none in the Boston area. He has a multidisciplinary approach to nutrition, psychological effects, medical concerns, home family and work issues etc., etc. The information and support is as comprehensive as it could get!
I would not personally consider any other surgeon for this procedure, as I couldn't imagine the experience could be as positive as the ones I have witnessed at the support groups he conducts. I have several friends and family members that have gone through the program and surgery with excellent results. I'm the last one with a date...I saw them go through the good the bad and the ugly, and I still can't wait for my day to come.
I waited one year for my surgery date!!
Dr. Randall has an unusually compassionate bedside manner for a surgeon. His surgical track record speaks for itself. It's excellent. He does a high volume of patients and is actively training other surgeons in his field.

competent,stiff

more relaxed and human, has a sence of humor about himself.
just got better

staff friendly,very helpful

nothing

he really seems to need to be sure this is the right thing for you for the right reasons.
i don't know just yet,his support group is enormous,
yes

He went over them at length, on several visits and in writing

excellent, excellent surgical success rate.
If a surgeon isn't competent he is dangerous, a great bedside manner is a pleasure nad for this type of work almost as important as his competence.

Dr. Randall impressed me as someone who had been around obese people for a good while and knew our problems, both medical and emotional.
His refrences are stellar with regard to this type of surgery, and in the gastric surgery medical community. As a professional librarian, I have been able to look up a good deal of info about him, and he is well-respected.
Pay attention to what he says and do what he tells you, particularly with respect to attending the monthly support group meetings.
They will help you before and after the surgery.
The Special Surgery office at Harvard Kenmore is chaotic, so keep on his staff about appointments, etc, or you might be left behind. Dr. Randall, however, has never kept me waiting more than 30 minutes. As a busy person, I appreciate that.
Dr. Randall had an attitude about the surgery that I could understand-yes, there are risks, but so was walking around at 266 pounds. I appreciate his candor about what to eat and what not to eat.
I feel extremely fortunate that Dr. Randall was the surgeon who helped me, and I will be forever grateful for his dedication to helping the morbidly obese.

I think Dr. Randall is as good as they get. He has a wonderful bedside manner. I trust him. That's the biggest compliment I can give to any one in the health care profession as I have had some major issues with doctors.

I had my first meeting with Dr.Randall in Nov.2001. It was only for about 15 minutes, but during that time he made me feel very relaxed an secure in my decision to have surgery. I been going to his montly meetings, and he is very approachable during the meetings.

His staff are wonderful. They want you to be successful. They encourage you, and don't beat you up when you stumble... we do that enough to ourselves. They acknowledge your fears and concerns - and always know just the right thing to say.

Overall, what I appreciate the most is that Dr.Randall and his staff don't make me feel like a failure. Unlike most of the world, they know that being obese is not because a person is lazy or unambitious, but rather they just need the extra tools in order to get to a healthy weight. And they are there to provide all the tools and instruction to be successful.

I found Dr. Randall open, honest, sincere and quite knowledgeable about the problems we all face with obesity. I have only grown to love and respect him all the more since I started my WLS journey with him. His staff are great and I can't think of a better team to be working with.
Know that Dr. Randall is committed to this surgery and he expects you to do your part. He will help you achieve the tool, it's up to you to use it wisely.
He strongly emphasizes aftercare, and his support group at Lawrence Memorial Hospital is the best!
He is with you each step of the way and you truly are never alone in your journey.
He is one of the most highly rated surgeon I have met to date and he deserves all the recognition he gets.
The man is excellent at what he does and does it to perfection. Feel secure in choosing Dr. Randall and his team...they are well worth the wait!

I was a little hurt and upset when I first met with Dr. Randall. I was upset because I had researched and talked with many people for almost a year before deciding to finally to talk Dr. Randall about having the surgery. I was told it would be some time before I could be considered let alone scheduled for surgery. I was lost after that first meeting. My feelings and understanding grew as I started attending the monthly meetings and talking with others that had the surgery, waiting for surgery and considering, It was after many meetings I realized Dr. Randall wanted to make sure I knew what I wanted and what I was getting myself into. He also wanted to make sure I was truly committed to the program, It took a few months of listning before I got the full understanding that the surgery was only the first step (a tool) that I had to change the way I was doing things, Diet, exerxise etc. After care is emphasized and structered in a way that can only help you. I am very happy with Dr. Randall he is open, honest and very caring. He has many patients that have had the WLS and they are happy and that speaks volumes for him.

The first time I met Dr. Randall was at a monthly support group, he was very informative.

During our first visit, Dr. Randall told me he would not perform the surgery on me because of a previous illness (Chrohn's Disease), so to say the least I was very disappointed in him. However, the program pre-surgery program and the in house doctor at the weight center were very helpful and after many talks, Dr. Randall decided to perform the open surgrey.

He is very compassionate. Aftercare is mandatory to being accepted as a patient. He works with Massachusetts General Hospital Weight Center which is a very structured program that entails all areas.

He was VERY straight forward regarding the risks of surgery, which is something I think you need to here cause your mind could get clouded by all the benefits.

Pre Op, I would give him an 8, I'll let you know Post Op.

It has been almost five months since my surgery! I can't believe it. First of all, I've lost 98 pounds so far. I feel like I'm floating on a cloud, I'm so happy. Dr. Randall was the kindest, gentlest, sweetest doctor I've ever known. He was warm and supportive from the first time we met and continues to be wonderful every time I see him. I understand that he has stopped doing all other kinds of surgery just so he can keep up with the demand for weight loss surgery. I don't know if that is true, but I've heard it.

If anyone is going to have this operation, take it from me. Dr. Randall is your man. He has simply changed my life. I look and feel 15 years younger than I did 5 months ago. That is a fact! I have never, ever received so many compliments in my life as I do every day now. I have never had a moment of doubt or sadness since the surgery. Dr. Randall's skill is unmatched, in my opinion. He is the best doctor and I love him to pieces. He is AWESOME!

My first impression of Dr.Randall was that he
is one of the nicest, kindest, most caring
people I have ever met. I have only had one
appointment with him so far, but he was
absolutely wonderful. Everything that you
hope a doctor could be, he seems to be.

His staff was kind, considerate, and helpful.

The only thing patients need to know is to
call and get in to see him as soon as
possible. He seems so good.

He described everything about the surgery
in clear, easy-to-understand terms. Within
ten seconds I felt totally comfortable talking
with him. He was fantastic.

As of right now, after only one visit with
him, I am completely comfortable placing my
life in his hands. And I look forward to
seeing him again, because he is the first
person that I have spoken honestly to about
weight in my life. For the first
time in my life I could discuss my weight
without crying. I felt accepted and
unjudged by Dr. Randall. It was the best
feeling in the world! He understands
that overweight people are people.
