Sheldon Randall Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
DR. RANDALL IS A WONDERFUL, CARING MAN, AND I AM GLAD I WAS REFERRED TO HIM. THE OFFICE STAFF IS VERY PLEASANT AND HELPFUL. ANYONE WHO IS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE HAVE SHOULD FEEL SPECIAL. I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY. HE HAS SUPPORT GROUPS THE 3RD WEDNESDAY OF EVERY MONTH THAT EVERYONE GETS TOGETHER AND SHARES. HE DOES NOTIFY YOU OF ALL THE RISKS, AND HE IS VERY UP FRONT WITH YOU, WHICH I REALLY AM IMPRESSED WITH. I THINK OVERALL, HE IS THE BEST.
My impress of Dr. Randall was down to earth.
He knew how I was feeling. He had the answers I wanted and needed to hear. He was very carful to make sure this was something I really wanted. He made sure I understood what he was talking about. He offers a monthly support group that he attends, which has been invaluable. The people threre are in all different stages of this proccess. He supports us all.
His staff is great. His nutritionist is very knowledgeable, up beat and caring as well. His secratary was also an important componant for me.
Dr. Randall went over all risks and details I needed for the surgery. He spent the time answering all my questions. I felt and feel secure in my choice.
The only set back thing was the wait in the waiting room. He is very busy. This surgery has become so needed and so popular. But even in the waiting room there was support from people who have had the surgery.
So it really wasn't unpleasant after all.
Fron the beginning I found Dr. Randall to be a kind and understanding physician. He did not make me feel that I was lazy, stupid or at fault for my weight and medical problems. He treated me as a patient with a medical problem that he had a way of helping. Over time my respect increased for him and the work he is doing. His medical assistant was also very helpful. The only thing that I found to be a problem was that his practice in an HMO office under surgical specialties and when I would call to ask questions or get help, often I would have to go through several people to find someone that was informative. When I called the office the other day to find out when I had to go back to see him again, I was asked if I was having a problem. When I said no, they said I did not have to see him again. So, I guess I should make an appoitment with my primary care physician.
Dr. Randall is a wonderful caring surgeon and very skilled. He filled me with confidence and took much time answering all of my questions and going over all details of surgery with me. The staff at the MGH Weight Center is very caring and made the process very personal. The staff includes a medical doctors, dieticians, psychologists, and surgeions. The program is very comprehensive and thourough both pre and post-op.
I have attended Dr. Randalls support group meetings and had a brief conversation with him. He seems like a great Doctor but I will have to add more when I meet him one on one. Right now I am having a hard time getting together with Dr. Randall. I have to go through Mass General and I feel like it is taking forever. I can't wait to sit and talk with Dr. Randall. I spoke with Dr. Randall on 4/26/01 and he seemed like a nice caring guy. I am happy that I have chosen him as my surgeon. As of yet he has not addressed the risk of surgery but I do know about blood clots because my brother passed away 5 days after his operation from a blood clot to the lungs.
Dr Randall is a great Dr, i believe in him and trust him and his staff, i know they are being honest with me dianne she is a great lady whom is very busy with all Dr Randalls patients she shoots for the moon this lady has many connections i worry about ins and she confidently said she would take care of it i am confident with her. i know people from years ago that have gone to Dr Randall they love and swear by him he is a great guy he is serious but when he is up front he winks like to say ur ok he is a great guy and so is his staff i am very fortunate to have them .......he is supurb highly recomended in my book....
I think Dr. Randall is a very compassionate man, who really cares about his patients. I met with him briefly to discuss the surgery and whether I qualified. I did. His medical assistant at the Kenmore office is very nice. Always willing to help and answers any questions. I must call her at least once a week, and I know I must be a pain to her, but she never once put me off. Diane at his other office I don't really know all that well, but I spoke briefly with her on the phone. Initially I was told I'd probably be booked sometime in November. I guess I called Diane on the right day, cuz I called just to make sure she had my paperwork from Kenmore, and she said yes, but she hadn't scheduled me yet. Thats all I really called for. 10 minutes later she called back and said she had a cancellation for May 23rd, and booked me for then. She is awesome in my book. Aftercare is definitely a big part of Dr. Randalls program. With support groups, and follow up visits. I am really impressed with everything overall. I'd stick with this program even if I had to wait another year. There is much to do in the time between consult and surgery, and if you have the time, use it to your advantage, read read read as much as possible. I had a 3 month wait for my initial consult and used that time. I didn't have many questions to ask. I'll have more to update after surgery I'm sure.
I met Dr. Randall in March 2000. Was researching the surgery and really had my heart set on having it in Salem, MA, but my insurer wouldn't cover that. Originally found him to be a little too confident, but later on in his support groups really started appreciating what this man is doing. He performs a lot of these surgeries. About 7 a week. He is remarkable. His support groups must have at least 100 people in them each month. Every one of them adores this man. He's caring, kind and compassionate. Would recommend him to anyone. He works out of Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, MA. Was doing surgeries in Boston but because of his expanding practice has decided to stay at Lawrence and do all surgeries there. He is most comfortable with his own team. I see him at the harvard Vanguard Office in Medford and the staff is wonderful.
I finally met with Dr. Randall on 12/7. Dr. Randall on first impression, knows his stuff and is open and forthright. He had already familiarized himself with my records and knew my history so we saved alot of time there. Basically, if you have already done your research, he tells you what type of surgery he does and what you need to do prior to the surgery. He doesn't mince words and appears very kind. I have another appointment with him in February, 2001. I saw Dr. Randall through Harvard Vanguard's Kenmore office. I cannot say enough about the staff there. They are very kind and caring. His waiting room had about 5 - 6 people who were in different stages of WLS. Some had it 3 mos prior, 6 mos prior, were having it in two days, and first time consultants. What is interesting is that we had a "mini" support group meeting in the waiting room while we waited to see Dr. Randall. It was very enlightening. When I mentioned this to Dr. Randall, he said it happens all the time. It was a great overall experience.
-------------January, 2001: I have my next appointment with Dr. Randall in a few days (2/1) and I am very excited. I attended the support group meetings run by his office and Dr. Randall attends and participates these meetings and it is so wonderful to see him interact with his patients in this forum.
