I had my first consult 4/6/01, and my impression was that Dr. Garber is a very good surgeon. He was trained by leading wls surgeon Dr. Wittgrove and told me he has done 125 lap rny's. He answered all of my questions thoroughly which I liked. I am very happy to have found a lap surgeon in L.I.
The office is very very busy, and they are booked pretty far out. Dr. Garber told me he hopes to start doing surgery with more hospitals to be able to accomodate more patients.
I was prepared for the long wait at the office after reading this web site so it did not bother me. I am more concerned with the 8 (count 'em, 8) pre- op appointments that I need before I can set my surgery date! I know this is the best way to go, I am just anxious. I saw the nutritionist at his office on 4/6 in order to get the first pre-op appointment out of the way.
Dr. Garber seems experienced in dealing with ins co's which I liked as well.
Dr. Garber and his office staff are wonderful. They made me feel very comfortable and answered all my questions.
Dr. Garber explained the surgery to me in detail. He also had me see an endocrinologist, gastrologist and nutritionist before surgery to rule out any other medical reason that would inhibit me from losing weight.
Dr. Garber has a great personality. He talks directly to you, not at you, and makes sure you fully understand the proceedure.
I had my consultation with Dr.Garber on April 9,2001. My impression of him has been very favorable. His credentials are amazing !
His secretary Donna was pleasant and efficient, and the wait for him was only 1 hour.
I left another surgeon to come to Dr. Garber and I found him quite pleasant. He was pressed for time because he had a bypass surgery scheduled that he was late for but did not cut short his examination, he was thorough.
I love the fact that he is so easy to get a hold of to have questions answered. He responds to email usually the same day.
I'm happy I have chosen him as my surgeon.
I had my consultation a week ago and was very pleased with Dr. Garber and his staff. Since I'm out of state he is working with me to have all of my pre-op stuff completed in PA and I will have a conversation with him to determine surgery date etc. I'm very excited about the surgery and I'm pleased with my choice of surgeon.
Dr Garber's staff was friendly and helpful. I went to him for the initial consultation when his office was just moving in so the staff was quite busy but was nice, friendly. He addressed all the risks of surgery and had plenty of time for my questions.
He gave me the list of Doctors that I would need to see and I have my second appointment with him on 11/10/oo when all my reports should be in and I can be approved by GHI my health insurance.
I want surgery on 1/10/00 since it would all around be helpful for my family and friends.
I don't know about any atructured aftercare as he did not mention it but i think that will be covered by the endocrinologist and nutritionist.
