I first met with Dr. Garber on April 6, 2001.
He welcomed me and my sons into his office and
spent much time answering our questions. My
sons had more questions than I because I have
been doing a lot of research. Dr. Garber really
knows his "stuff". He has a genuine concern for
his patients. He gave me a list of all the doctors
I needed to see before surgery. His office staff
is very friendly, especially his new girl, Jennifer.
I found it much easier to correspond is Dr. Garber
via e-mail as it is difficult to get him on the
phone. He usually answers his e-mail within a day.
He has had two support group meetings which I found
very informative and is planning to resume the
meetings in late September. At this point I would
recommend Dr. Garber to anyone who is considering
LAP RNY. The above are my personal comments and
impressions of Dr. Garber.
Dr. Garber is very nice and professional. He took a great deal of time answering questions and explaining the procedure. He addressed all of the risks involved and gave me a lot of material to bring home to review.
The one thing that I like most about Dr. Garber is that if I have questions, I can e-mail him and he always responds to me within a day.
I have great confidence in Dr. Garber's surgical competance and his bedside manner is wonderful. He was really great to me and to my mom, who accompanied me for the surgery (since I was coming from out of the area). I would highly recommend Dr. Garber to anyone who is considering the surgery!
At the initial consultation I was provided with specific information regarding the procedure, associated risks and aftercare. I received a list of specialists I needed to see prior to scheduling surgery. Dr. Garber was very pleasant and seemed to show a genuine interest in his patients. I wanted some information and found it much easier to E-mail him directly rather than phone his office. He usually replys in a timely manner, which is somewhat unusual for an MD. Communication is of the utmost importance in the doctor - patient relationship. Dr. Garber is obviously aware of that.
06/22/01-I am now post-op. I did have some problems and I was pleased with my treatment during my hospital stay. Dr. Garber has an excellent bedside manner and doesn't leave any stone unturned, so to speak, when it comes to patient care.
Dr Garber is an icon in my area because he is the only one performing laproscopic roux-n-y on Long Island NY. He was personally trained by Carnie Wilson's Dr. in LA and was featured together with them acouple of weeks ago on the Montel tv talk-show
His office assistant Donna is very helpful and friendly. The first time I met with them I immediately got a sense of his confidence and felt very comfortable making the choice to have the operation if he would perform it laproscopically
He told me about the risks of the surgery and put my mind at ease by indicating that the lap procedure was less traumatic then open surgery
I went to a few support meetings where i met many of his patiants and learned from speakers about nutrition, plastic surgery
I think that he is going to be a wonderful doctor. He made me feel comfortable even though i brought another health professional with me when i went for my initial consultation. He was very direct and did not sugar coat anything which i liked. He is very busy, and my appointment was delayed for a long time. I was scheduled for 6:15pm and i did not actually get to see him until 9:30pm. (next time i will call in advance to see how long the wait is.)
He made sure i understood what i was getting into and set me on the path i needed to take in order to have this surgury. I must see 7 other doctors and have their assesments sent to him so he is not surprised in surgury. Even if i end up not having this procedure i will know the exact state of my health when this is over. He said that he sponsers support group and said that we would be seeing each other basically for the rest of my life. I have contacted his office by phone and by e-mail and they have replied promtly each time. So far so good.
I thought he was very straight forward. After talking with him I felt very comfortable and felt that he really cared. His staff was really friendly and nice. The time that you have to wait is really long but after you meet with the doctor you feel so much better. I think he is very thorough he makes you see six other doctors before you can even go back to see him. He tells you all the risks that can happen with surgery. He lets you know exactly what is expected about the surgery during and after. I am glad that I went to Dr. Garber I felt better about even talking about the surgery.
My first visit with Dr.Garber was in December of 2000. He was very friendly and informative. Dr.Garber answered all my questions and he seemed very concerned about my health. We scheduled all my pre certification for the surgery. My second meeting was to schedule the surgery for March 27,2001. He did my WLS and three hernia repairs and i was out in five days. I did how ever get a infection by no fault of Dr.Garber, was operated on again and spent ten days in the hospital. My wound was left open for saftey precautions and was wet packed till i was put on this machine call the VAC. The VAC closes the wound by sucking power thru a tube attach to foam in the wound. In a matter of five weeks the wound is almost closed. Dr.Garber is a true professional and that also includes his office staff.Dr.Garber gave me a new life(down 85lbs.in three months).I FEEL GREAT!!! Thank you Dr.Garber.
Dr. Garber was very nice and informative on my first visit.I feel I have made the best choice for a surgeon.
I had my 2nd appt. with Dr. Garber on 4/2/01.I feel so confident with my decision. He really takes his time with his patients and really seems to care about you. Now, I have to wait for the insurance approval.Sure hope it comes soon, the wait is really hard. The office is a bit busy but,the Dr. takes his time with you.
5/26/01..I am now a post-op and I have to say I was really thrilled with my care from Dr. Garber. He was wonderful.I would highly recommend him to any future patients. He is a dedicated and caring professional.he was there for me 100%.
Both my husband and I were very impressed with Dr. Garber. Upon my first meeting, I was informed of the risks involved. I was given a detailed description of what was going to be done during the surgery. Dr. Garber's took all my medical history, examined me and gave me names and numbers of of other doctors I needed to see before any surgery could be done. He did tell me that I did not have to use these doctors if traveling posed a problem for me. He was very imformative. Upon my second meeting, I had to complete an information sheet and survery to see if I understood what I was undertaking. The wait was long to see Dr. Garber, but after sitting with him, I realized that he makes sure his patients are completely informed. He emphasized the need for dedication and follow through with the prescribed after care, which was given to me with all the other literature I received.
