Sergey Lyass Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

From the beginning I was really impressed with the staff of Northridge Hospital Center for Weight-loss Surgery Center. They were very professional and knowledgeable about the process and made it easier to deal with.

I Started the process in February 2010 and my insurance company BC/BS denied me twice and asked for more medical records. There was a change in the staff at the center so this delayed the process also. I finally wrote a letter to add to the appeal and it was finally approved in the beginning of October.

The staff worked diligently to get the approval. They also made sure that I had all of my pre-op needs met before proceeding.
Dr. Lyass was really wonderful but interrupted by his phone several times when I first met him. Once his attention was present he spent a good amount of time explaining the procedure options and answered any questions that my Fiancée' who was extremely nervous had. What I liked about him the most was his confidence in what he does as a surgeon. He stated that up until he put me under I would have the choice of changing my mind from the Roux-en-Y to the Lap-band, which was very comforting.

Once the surgery was approved I met the new nurse Kai who is wonderful. She went over everything and made sure that I was comfortable with calling her and Dr. Lyass if I had any questions or concerns following the surgery. After surgery both Dr. Lyass and Dr. Kohkelera who assisted him visited me in the hospital to make sure that I was doing well and their nurse Kai visited too. Kai calls me frequently to check up on how I am doing.

The importance of aftercare was expressed and they made sure that I had all of the information and tools that I needed. The hospital does have a structured aftercare program for support and also gave me online support tools because I did not live in their area I live in Ventura, California.

The risks of the surgery were explained well to both I and my fiancée. I would rate the staff at Northridge Hospital Center for Weight Loss Surgery a 10+ on all aspects of this journey thus far.

I found Dr. Lyass and his staff so nice and professional. His Nurse Coordinator Kai just amazing. I am one week post off and feel great.

My first impression of Dr.Lyass was via/email correspondence with him. After searching and calling at least 20 surgeons throughout California I stumbled across Dr. Lyass. I sent him and email on a Sunday and a few hours later I got a personal response from him.rnI thought that someone was probably playing with me or \"posing\" as a Doctor, but it was no joke. He personally answers his e mails the same day. His staff was always there to answer questions, but most importantly they are respectful, polite and perform their jobs without skipping a beat.rnrnMy impression has only changed in a more positive direction as Dr. Lyass is an honest man and a skilled surgeon.rnrnI would encourage anyone who is considering bariatric surgery to send him an e mail and ask any questions you would like.rnrnI was set up with a nutritionist to cover all of my before and after care.rnDr. Lyass scheduled a consultation for me and sat down with me to explain what procedures my insurance would pay for and then went on to educate me on how each procedure is done. We also discussed the risks of surgery.rnHe gave me a binder full of information to read covering all areas of the surgery process.rnrnDr.Lyass is the best in my opinion.rnI always felt that I had chosen the right surgeon. I am very pleased with my care so far. The doctor undertands that I had to pay for my procedure because my insurance would not cover it. I got an infection from the surgery and he took care of it as fast as possible. Dr. Lyass seems to care about me and wants me to do well. He makes sure that all his patients see a NUT and get all the knowledge available about eating in this new life style. He keeps in close contact with you if you have any questions or concerns. He was the only doctor that wrote an email to me when I was looking for a surgeon.

First of all I would like to \"Thank\" Dr. Lyass for making my like more pleasant and enjoyable. I weighed 264lbs on the day of my lap-band surgery (6-27-08) and was not a very happy person. Before I actually decided to go through with the surgery, I did alot of research on bariatric surgery and all its pros and cons and the side affects of surgery. I was still a little nervous, until I met Dr. Lyass, and realized that this would be the best decision for me. He explained everything in great detail and showed me an actual lap-band and how it works. I was really impressed with him and how professional he was. I was really relaxed and felt very comfortable with him. He answered all my questions and took his time explaining all his answers.rn On the day of the surgery everything went really good. I had no complications from the surgery and was released the same day. Within the next few days after I was home I had a few questions and called his office. He returned each call himself instead of having a nurse or one of his staff to call me back. Every time he called he was greatly concerned and caring. rn I have had 2 adjustments since the surgery and everything is going great. Today (12-15-08) I weigh 210lbs and I am smiling from ear to ear. I have not felt this good or HAPPY in a very long time. I had a great first impression of Dr. Lyass and his staff. They are very friendly and more than willing to help you. At my first visit they took my height and weight. Dr. Lyass explained the Lap-Band procedure and showed me the actual band and how it worked. He answered all of my questions and gave me a folder that went step by step explaining what you needed to do before and after the procedure and explaing how the surgery works. Dr. Lyass is very professional. The surgery went fine, there were no complications and I was released the same day. Since the surgery I have seen Dr. Lyass 2 times for adjustments. I never have to wait long to see him, and the adjustments don't take long at all. He always asks how everything is going and is always in a great mood. I have had a really great experiance, and I don't think I could be any happier! I would 100% recommend Dr. Lyass without any hesitation, to everyone that I come across looking to have either Gastric Bypass or the Lap-Band procedure.

My name is Shannon Cortez. I went to see Dr Lyass in December of 2007 for an information siminar in Apple Valley CA. The information given was very informative so I stayed for an one on one consult with Dr Lyass. I have to say he made me feel so comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. I was treated so kindly and all my questions were answered honestly. I left there will a lot to think about and made an appointment to come back in January. I decided to go with the Lap Band and loved how quickly everything was handled. Dr Lyass performed my Surgery on March 6, 08. Hello Everyone, My name is Kym Morris , I m a patient of Dr. Sergey Lyass of Beverly Hills, California and have had the Gsystric Bypass Surgery performed on May 29,2008. I have struggled with being obese all my life. I use to tell people,Me and Skinny has never been FRIENDS.I have always dealt with everything that has to do with being an Obese person. My medical condition was common with a person overweight. I had High Blood Pressure , High Cholesterol, Sleep Apnea, Gout, Arthritis, Joint Pains in my Knees, Ankles and Hip, Lower Back Pain that at times was unbearable but My life was what was becoming more and more difficult just to do the simple things in life that at one time or another I took for granted like, Taking a walk up the street, spending time with my daughter and son ,playing with my 2 nephews in which I had just adopted and just being able to go grocery shopping. I have always worked all my life ever since I was sixteen and to now be confined to my home because walking has become a torture was killing me ... I was a patient at a Well Known Hospital in Los Angeles, California for many years but when I mention to my Physician at that time about this Bypass Surgery I heard so much about he would always tell me, Not Right Now Kym, Let us try another Diet and I go from there. I was fed up. My Wife knew my struggle and she understood my pain and so she got to work as she does so well and found a NEW Dr. for me in which introduced me to Dr. Lyass who has been a BLESSING for me and family. The day of Surgery Dr. Lyass was so excited to start it made me feel a little better and me being a Big Joker ,I had his whole staff in Stitches in the operating room only I ended up with Staples…(Smile) ..After the surgery I was a little sore but I was waiting to pass GAS because that is one of the Signs that everything is working properly inside your body after the surgery is completed. When I came home, I began to eat my protein shakes and start with my soupy soups and broths but in my 5th Week after the Surgery , Dr. Lyass allowed me to start eating solid foods and I did but very little. I enjoyed how my weight was coming off and how Dr. Lyass was just overjoyed by my progression. He made me feel like I am really doing this and I owe it all to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for giving me the strength &Will Power to go through this successfully and to his son, Dr. Lyass for giving me the tools to take back my life and be able to be here for my Family and our New Edition to our family, my 1st Grandson.Dr. Lyass is an excellent Dr and he understands your worries and fears but I cannot express enough how much he has helped me and his office staff is wonderful.
