Sayeed Ikramuddin Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
I like Dr.Ikramuddin. He is kinda laid back, quiet guy but serious about his work. I like his staff and he really emphasizes that this is a tool not a miracle. He told me all the risks of the surgery and complications that may occur and all that. All of his staff is so friendly and they took care of everything I needed and answered all my questions and took as long as I needed to feel comfortable about things. Dr. Ikramuddin doesn't have a great bedside manner but is quite witty when prompted and has such a sweet and dedicated spirit. He cares about his patients a lot; to the point where he answers his own pager, not an answering service nor does he have a PA, intern, or nurse do his calls. If there is an emergency, you get him on the phone and no one else. If you cannot get him right away, he returns calls quckly and makes sure that if he cannot answer in a timely manner, only a doctor that he really really trusts will accept for him. That was and is very impressive to me. How many doctors do that? None I have ever had. I am very glad that he was my surgeon.
I found Dr. Ikramuddin to be very open, informative and to the point. He was very realistic about what I could expect. He is a very busy man so expect to wait an hour or more if you have a late morning or afternoon appointment. The office staff at the U of M are great- and very supportive. Dr. Ikramuddin emphasizes after care, and the program has a structured time table for follow up appointments, extending to yearly for the rest of the patient's life. After care includes visits with the nurse practioner, surgeon or resident, and the dietician. Risks of surgery were very well explained prior to my deciding what procedure to have. All patients attend an informational seminar as the 'entry point' to the weight loss surgery clinic. I could not rate Dr. Ikramuddin any higher. I was very pleased with my care, and his approach to the surgery.

So far so good, although I've only met with him in person a couple of times.rnrnWhen I have met with him, he is friendly and makes me feel comfortable with the process.rnrnBe sure to allow plenty of extra time for appointments at his clinic; twice I have waited more than hour past my scheduled time to actually be seen.rnrnWhen originally deciding on a surgeon, Dr. Ikramuddin was mentioned on this site as a very good surgeon. I also went to my regular doctor, and Dr. Ikramuddin was her first suggestion... so here I am today. :)rnrnOn a completely unrelated note, his clinic is easily accessable by city bus (exit on Washington Ave. at Harvard St.) or there is a parking ramp just a block away. Raining/snowing? Take the parking ramp elevator to the tunnel level and stay dry as you walk (or be carted - that's available too) to your appointment. :)

He was an absolutely fantastic surgeon. He was caring, observant when I was scared, compassionate and in tune with me and my feelings. I have worked with great people at the U of M and would highly recommend them. I had a duodenal switch so I was different from most but they have walked me through a lot of the changes from the Roux N Y procedure. I started at 380 pounds and at a year and a half out, I am now 169 pounds and still losing bit by bit.

I found Dr. Ikramuddin to be an extremely pleasant and gentlemen. He is energetic and enthusiastic about helping people to make a significant and tangible change in their life. He was very up front about the risks associated with Bariatric surgery as well as the long-term statistical data. His office staff were polite and efficient. The University of Minnesota has an extensive bariatric program including aftercare. rnrnI have since had my surgery, 5 months-post op. There is no other surgeon I would have chosen for my procedure. Dr. Ikramuddin and his team are the best! Thanks Dr. I, Bridget, Anthony, and Toni, and to the Resident's and Fellow! You are all my Dream Makers!

In my first meeting Dr. Ikramuddin spent 30min drawing and discussing the various procedures, sharing data on the resolution of comorbidities, the incidence of complications, causes for failure, e.t.c. He was very open and respectful. He is very busy and was called out of my consult once to take an important phone call, it was OK with me, we picked right back up when he returned. It helped that I had a list of questions concerns which directed our conversation.
