Sayeed Ikramuddin Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
11/20/2002
My first impression of Dr. I was that he was very soft spoken but also funny. He was extremely honest about the risks of this surgery and the importance of aftercare. He did not try to candy coat things in any way. His office staff seems to be quite busy and phone calls are not always returned in a timely manner, but all staff are very nice and willing to answer any questions when you do actually get a hold of them. Although I have not yet had surgery, I would highly recommend Dr. I if you are interested in getting more information on this surgery. Dr I has performed over 1200 lap RNY's. Currently his seminars are being scheduled out until fall of 2003. You will meet individually with Dr. I at this time also.
I will update again after surgery.
As I am still a pre-op, I can't comment about hospital stay or after care, but I can say that when I attended Dr. Ikramuddin's informational meeting, I was comfortable immediately. By the end of the meeting, I knew without a doubt that this was going to be the man to change my life. After the meeting, I sat in my car for about 20 minutes and cried. He was nice and informational. He made me realize that the fact that I can't do this alone is okay. At this point in my life, I probably couldn't do it on my own, but that that doens't make me weak or a bad person. After my surgery, I will update you all!
The information meeting was very disorganized, dietician never showed up, Dr. kept us waiting 2 hours before he came. Met some really nice people considering surgery though! When Dr. Ikramuddin did come in I really liked him. Honest, open to questions, very experienced sense of humor. He emphasized the importance of aftercare, explained the risks, explained all the surgeries out there. Office staff - I have only had a brief conversation with Danette, seems nice. Not scheduled for surgery yet, looking at 2002.
I really love Dr. Ikramuddin!! He is as concerned about my health 10 months after my surgery as he was on the morning of my lap rny. He will be a part of my life, forever.
My first impression of Dr. I was that he was veryexperienced at this surgery and he knew his stuff. My impression over time became even more positive. He is an excellent practioner and a very kind and caring person. He is very concerned about his patients and if there is a problem he is ther for you. His office staff is very good but very busy. The wait to see the Dr. for apointments can be very long.
The University has a support group that meets once a month and the Dr. attends almost every meeting. He may only be able to be there for 1/2 hour but he comes and answers questions and shres information. Donna, Dr. I nurse practioner is ther for every meeting. You can attend the meetings before you have the surgery and while you are on the waiting list. It is also the way you can receive information after the surgery.
He is very straightforwrd about the risks of the surgery and he also shares the record he has had. He has done well over a thousand surgeries and does them laproscoply.
Overall I would rate him excellent in both surgical competence and bedside manner. The only downside is that he is so busy and is booked into Fall of 2003. He is worth the wait.
I am 5 months out now and I like my surgeon now more than ever!! He has been so supportive and he is such a nice man, I would refer anyone to him!
The office help was a problem during my pre-op stuff and I hope they have straightened that out for people going through it now.
The aftercare is great and from what I understand, we will have a lifelong relationship because he wants his patients to come back every 6 months. I guess that keeps everyone on track!!
I had Dr. Ikramundin From the U of M. He was very nice. He talked to you as a real person not some number that he will do. His staff was very professional. They were all very helpful. They weren't very good about getting back to the family after the surgery. My mom and sister never did get to talk to anyone on the team before they had to leave. That is the only thing that was a downer in this whole process
First of all, Dr. Ikramuddin is a really nice guy. I have only met him once, but I liked him right away. He went over all the different kinds of surgery, including the old dangerous ones they used to do, just so we were all well informed. I know that he has done over 1,000 surgeries, so I feel safe with him. When I had my one on one meeting with him, I told him that I had been researching WLS for over a year and he treated me like an informed person. This means a lot to me because so many doctors treat me like I am dumb because I am young. Jennifer is in charge of scheduling, and she was very nice, but she seemed very rushed whenever I talked to her. But that's understandable because I am sure that they are SUPER busy. I also have a habit of calling on Monday mornings! :o) Donna, his nurse, is also very nice and answered the million questions I have. Overall I rate them a 9 on a scale of 1-10.

Ok I am now 2 months post-op, and I still would absolutley recommend Dr. Ikramuddin. Everytime I see him he is so nice, caring, and encouraging. He's exactly the way a surgeon should be. The only issue I have is with the office in general. Everytime I have an appointment with them, I end up waiting there for hours. They do all the follow up/lab appts. on Thurs., so everyone in the world is there, and they are always behind. They need to get a bigger office and more staff. But other than that, it is a pleasure going there. :o)
I was very impressed with Dr. Ikramuddin when I met him. I only had a few minutes with him after meeting with the dietician, but I felt very comfortable with him. He told me that the surgery will change my life and I nodded (I'm expecting that!), but then he says that its not just in positive ways. He says you'll see how superficial people really are - those that will talk to you after surgery that wouldn't before, etc.
He said that he just wanted me to be aware of that. Also, that this is the most rewarding career - better than delivering babies. I believe that he truly loves his job and loves helping us overcome this hurdle that, for me, has begun to monopolize my life.
I've had a bit different experience with some of the office staff. I had been to this page before, so I knew what to expect, based on others experiences, however I signed up for the consult on March 7th, back in early January... and when I got there on the 7th, they had NO IDEA who I was. I showed them my confirmation letter and they put me in the system, but I'm going to be checking everything twice to make sure its all done.
Overall, because I really like this doctor and have heard great things about him, I've chosen to do the surgery with him.
i was very inpressed.
i am still in or of him and can't thank him enough.
they are all very friendly and give them credit for remembering simple details about you the patient.
I feel he is a womderful surgen with great bed side manner he makes you feel very comfortable he is very honest with you.
yes he has a stuctured aftercare program.
As far as the risks he was very open and hoest about answering my questions.
I would rate him very high and recomend him to anyone.
sugical competence, and bedside manner i feel are both great.
