My first impression of Dr. Mattar was that he was very serious with very little personality. I was wrong! He was very nuturing and supportive and sat and held my hand while he talked to me after the surgery. His staff was also very supportive. I feel blessed that I had Dr. Mattar as my surgeon. Both his surgical competence and his bedside manner was excellent.

My first impresion of Dr. Mattar was that he was a very mild mannered man. I haven't spoke to him personally yet only seen him once at the workshop. His staff seems to be very competent and on the ball.

I was very impressed with Dr.Mattar & his staff @ Mcgee hospital in pittsburgh. Any questions I had were answered with more then enough knowledge and susport. I was touched by the way Dr.Mattar went out of his way to keep my family infromed. Though they were not with me @ the hospital, Dr.Mattar made it a point to call them @ home! and My surgery was finished late (9pm) He seemed to know and understand everything I wanted to know! I thanked him as I was ready to leave and I wondered if he knew just how thankful I am and just how much he has done to help me change my life for the better! From a scale from 1-10 I would give him a 15!!!! While I seemed to have such a + experience with Dr.Mattar and (his) staff the women in the X-ray room and thier "bed side" manner hade alot to be desired.I know everybody has a "bad day" but I would think that after someone had surgery and they are not feeling good they would get treated with alittle more compassion.

My first impression of Dr. Mattar was that he has a good heart. I met him at the first consultation for about 5 minutes. He was talking to a group of us (6) who were considering surgery. Since I did not talk to him one on one, I cannot say much about his bedside manner. I was a little intimidated by his manner, but I'm sure when I have my next consultation I will be able to speak to him and make a better judgment. He was late to the meeting because he was doing rounds, which led me to believe he takes whatever time is needed with each patient. His PA is excellent, and very patient, the rest of the staff seemed very knowledgeable and direct, but everyone there is very busy.

I was a transfer patient to Dr. Mattar. At first I was a bit scared because my surery was moved up a month and then I met Dr. Mattar and his staff. He made me feel comfortable and at ease. He is very kind and compasionate. I have had two appointments with him since my surgery and he is still very caring and kind hearted. He takes the time to answer all of my questions, no matter how much time it takes. I would recommed him to anyone who is thinking about this surgery. The aftercare program they have set up is fantastic. You are never alone in any of this with Dr. Mattar and his staff at MaGee
Hospital.

1)Dr. Mattar was very personable and encouraging pre-op and when I was still in the hospital. The surgery went well with no complications.
2)When I went for my fourth week visit and described my symptoms of being unable to swallow anything, I was amazed that he scheduled me for a scope the next morning. I'm not used to doctor's being so responsive to what a patient says (and there was a stricture).
3)Dr. Mattar's personal staff are just as kind and responsive. His PA, Aneetha is great. The surgical nursing staff at Magee are also supportive. Going in a couple times for dilation was not fun at all. The last time I was unaccompanied, but the staff were very encouraging.
4)I wish Dr. Mattar was not so far from my house, I have to drive 40 miles one-way.
5)I believe Dr. Mattar has a genuine, personal concern for his patients. We are not just cases to him.
6)The whole practice that Dr. Mattar works with emphasizes aftercar, regular follow up visits, nutrition and medication hotline, monthly support meetings.
7)The risks of surgery were handled extensively at the pre-op apointment with the PA, a nurse educator and Dr. Mattar all reviewing the risks and answering questions.
8)I would give Dr. Mattar an A. Even though right now at two months I still cannot handle solid foods and feel weak after inflamation and two dilations, this may be more a side affect from my auto-immune inflamation response, whatever. Dr. Mattar has been very responsive and concerned.
9)I would rate Dr. Mattar as excellent in both bedside manner and surgical competence, a rare combination that arises from his genuine care and desire to help his patients.
10) Other patients may have not had as positive regard for Dr. Mattar as I have. My comments above are from my own experience. However, as a person who has systemic lupus, fibromyalgia, autoimmune thyroid disease, etc. I have seen more doctors than most people and I have run into some real idiots. I worked as an emergency room social worker, so when I meet someone who has been so helpful and professional to me, it is difficult not to rave a little.

My first impression of Dr. Mattar was that he seemed very nice. He had a very nice personality and seemed genuinly concerned about my care.

His office staff were very professional and strived to keep him on time.

He streesed the importance of aftercare especially getting enough fluids in so as not to get dehydrated. Just give it time.

I met with his nurse three days after my surgery and she went over my nutritional care and vitamin regimine. She also stressed that they are there for you if you ever have any questions or problems.

Dr. Mattar was not afraid to describe things that could happen post-op. He was matter of fact and stressed how important it was to have a good attitude and follow the post op care instructions. Like walking shortly after surgery, breathing, getting my fluids in when allowed, etc.

Overall, I'd have to say I was very pleased with Dr. Mattar and his surgical staff and office staff. He made this experience for me a very comfortable and I trust him completely. I would recommend him to anyone.

He is absolutely wonderful. He called me at home the day before my surgery. I have had to go into the hospital 3 times for a stricture, and he always so caring. His bedside manners are awesome. All of his staff are great to deal with. I would recommend him very highly.
